I just got home from Maria Wendt's event, and wow. I walked away with two key insights that I want to share with you. I wanna talk to you about how they apply to your coaching business, whether you're just getting started or whether you are growing to the next level. If we haven't met, I'm Debbie Shadid I've helped over 10,000 coaches, not only build but grow profitable boutique style coaching businesses. And here's what I know. After years of doing this, you never outgrow learning. I teach business every single day, and still I make it a point to attend events like Maria's because there is always something that comes outta that. You get new ideas, you see things differently. And today I'm gonna share two things that I heard differently and I'm gonna talk about what it means for you and your business. Alright? The number one takeaway I had from Maria's event is that traffic is everything. if your business is not growing, the only problem that you have is traffic. It is not your offer. It is not your website. It's not even probably your mindset. It's just not enough people who are seeing you. There are no clients without marketing. I always say this, the only path to clients is through marketing. There is no growth without visibility, exposure is everything. So what is traffic? This is the number of people that are seeing your brand and your message. It is the lifeblood of your business. And here's the thing. If you wanna grow a business, what you need is more traffic. Sometimes clients will ask me, well, how many times should I be posting on social media? How many emails should I write? And I laugh and say, well, how many clients do you want? there is a direct correlation with how much marketing you do to bring in a certain amount of traffic and a certain amount of clients that you're gonna have as a result of it. So at some point. You'll be able to measure traffic starting today. I just wanna encourage you. Traffic is everything. That means more people would need to see your content, which means you need to produce more content. It means more people need to interact with your brand, which means you need to provide more ways for people to interact with your brand. You need to have more conversations, you need to talk to more people, not just online, but locally, anywhere you go, at some point you will know how much traffic you need and it will become slightly more predictable to know what kind of result you're gonna get. I was talking with a client this week about the numbers she's wanting to do in her business, and she'd done the math, I call it coach math, like how many sales she needed to have to make, a certain amount of money, and I said, well, look, it comes down to more than that. We need to know how many people do you need to meet before you get one consult booked? That is traffic. So you would need to increase your traffic to get more consults booked. And so if it's a hundred people, how many consults will you get out of that? And then based on how good you do on your consults, how many consult calls do you have to have to make one sale? A lot of you guys are thinking every time you have a consult, somebody will buy from you. That's just not true, You'll get good at it someday, but in the beginning. You might have to have a lot of consults to make one sale. That's not a problem. It's just good for you to know. You're gonna need to know how do I create more traffic, get more exposure to get more consults, to make more sales? How many sales do you need to get? Your income goal is just one number that you need to be thinking about. If you are not growing or you're not growing at all, you don't have enough traffic. And look, people will say to me, my Instagram following is not growing. Okay, here's another thing that's gonna blow your mind. Doesn't matter so much how many followers you have. What I want you to do is look at your insight. We wanna make sure on Instagram that your posts are being seen by a lot of people. if you were to look at my Instagram insights and we would go post by post, you would see that like 70% of the people who are seeing it are non followers. Non followers are the people who are seeing it more than my followers. This is an excellent thing you guys. So the more that you post, the more likely you're gonna get in front of more people. before you tweak your offer or re revenge your website, or even ask yourself, should I change my niche? I'm gonna ask you. Do you have enough traffic? Are you posting enough? Are you doing all of the things to get in front of non followers, like I was just talking about on Instagram? What are you going to do starting today to create more traffic, to get more eyes on your brand, to get in front of more people? Number two, key takeaway, which kind of follows with this, is that you're a content creator. I know. I was like, wow, okay. I am a content creator. Now. I'm a coach, I'm a business strategist, but that's not true. What I am first is a content creator. I am the one who is responsible, whether I have a team or not, for driving all of the content. And if you start thinking about this, imagine yourself as a content creator versus a great coach. That means your focus will be on creating content. My focus has been on delivering great results to our clients and that won't change. it's been on creating, high level programs and trainings that are all current and fresh and new. We've just been through that. It's been through reviewing things that our clients are doing, offering feedback, suggestions, all that. But you guys, that is one part of my business. The other part of my business and your business is we have to be creating lots of content. So here's the deal. The best content creators win. That's what I say about marketing too. I'm just saying it to you guys in a different way. Marketing is like this thing that you're just doing. Content creation, it feels like a more specific thing. the best coaches don't win. The best marketers do, but. Content creators that create the best content. And then do lots of marketing. They're really the ones that win. So are you willing to write in your business every day? Thais Glenn, our mindset coach, she was a client of ours several years ago, and she said, one thing you told me that really stuck with me is that if you're not writing in your business every day, you won't have one. And I was like, gosh, that's true. I didn't remember that I said that, but that's because I write every day in my business. Writing is how you build connection. Writing is how you sell. Writing is how you begin to build trust. that would be through emails, and right now I would say let's start with weekly emails, but you're gonna have to get to daily emails at some point. If you think about the people that you follow, I'm gonna bet that the successful coaches or the products that you buy, you're getting daily emails from 'em. It's not you sending too many emails and bugging them. It is you giving people the opportunity to interact with your brand. That's why you send emails daily. I know you're just starting out though, don't get overwhelmed. Just send one email a week and then you can build from there. Social media. You gotta write social media posts. You've gotta talk about what your client struggles with. You gotta talk about what it is they deeply desire. You have to be a content producing machine. Let's be honest. if you are having a hard time writing the captions in, please just pick up your phone and start talking to it. There's this beautiful tool called Descript I'll leave a link for it in the comments, it is so easy. You can literally just start talking on your phone about something and you can edit it. You'll get better at that. If you just start doing it. Stop going to chat GPT and trying to create the perfect prompt and post. Just start talking about what you know. If you are coaching in the right niche and if you've had that personal transformation that I talk about. If this has been your life's work, if this is what you're most passionate about, you don't have to do any research. Just pick up your phone, turn it on video mode, and start recording. You can also use something like a teleprompter. There's tons of apps, if that makes you feel better. I have tried those, but I'm gonna be honest with you. It's actually harder for me to read a script than it is for me to just start talking. I also wanna tell you, whatever you record, you don't have to post. Okay? you can record the same thing 10 times if you need to. But again, with Descript this incredible editing tool, you can take that, put your video into it, even if it's a minute long, you can cut out anything where you had to restart what you were saying, or you know, had too long of a stall any of those, you can just cut out. It is so incredible. So not only does writing build trust. But people seeing you is key. We're talking about an AI driven world right now. We all know this. people are suspicious, and I think we can all sniff out those AI created. captions and all that, especially if y'all are leaving the long dashes in there. Now I use AI every day, and I send emails sometimes with those long dashes, but they're emails that I wrote, I just had AI look for typos and all that kind of stuff. Please make sure that you are writing in your own voice. This is going to be the key. to build your brand and yes, to build your business. the words that you say will create the results that you want. So when you embrace being a content creator, you're gonna show up differently. When you stop waiting to be ready, when you stop getting prepared, and you just decide that you are well qualified to talk about something that you know so good. Then just start talking. That's actually how you build the confidence. Confidence comes from doing the thing. So being visible, will build trust. You need more traffic. You need to be a content creator. You need more visibility. More exposure. So how does this apply to you? First of all, I want you to ask yourself, am I consistently creating traffic to my business? Am I showing up as a content creator? Am I writing and sharing regularly? These two things will transform your business faster than any fancy strategy. You can't sell if you are silent. You can't sell. If you are hiding. You can't sell if you're waiting to get it right. Visibility is everything. I wanna pause for a moment and just ask you to subscribe if this strategy is resonating with you. This is what we do here. We talk all things marketing. I also wanna invite you to grab my brand new private podcast. It is a four part episode that will walk you through the framework for building a profitable, successful coaching business. I'll talk about tech, about exposure, about how to have a sustainable business. Okay? The link for the private podcast is below. And then make sure you go ahead and subscribe. Okay, one more lesson that I was reminded about when I went to Maria's event. Please hear me on this. Growth comes from getting support. I'm not here right now to sell you on working with me. I'm here to tell you what you need as a solopreneur in your business. I've been teaching business for over two decades, and you know, in 2013 was the first time that I worked with a coach. Since that time. I have rarely been without a coach and I'm talking about weeks without a coach, and that is it. I can tell you that some of the coaches that I hire, I could actually teach better than what they're teaching, but that is not the point. The point is I know I need an outside perspective. I know that I need someone to challenge me on how I'm thinking. I know I need someone to say, wait a minute, Debbie, why are you doing that? Or why are you saying that? You need somebody to see what you cannot see. When you go to an event like Maria's event, you get space to do bigger thinking. You are reminded of what is possible. I sat with a guy. who was trying to find his next bit of motivation because he was really good at selling $25 million worth of software He launched something and he was like, I need to find new motivation. That's the kind of exposure that you get when you go to events. that kind of conversation with this gentleman, He makes you think differently. That is what happens when women come to work with us as well. They get accountability, encouragement, inspiration, not just from me, but from others that are doing the work. That's what happens when you go to events. You get, feedback and ideas and other people who want to pour into you. So please hear me on this. Work with a coach. You cannot do this on your own. Your peers who are not ahead of you, they cannot help you and they should not be helping you. If you're over 50, chances are you're asking your kids to help you. They have never run a profitable coaching business. Your partner, your spouse, they cannot help you. Get the help that you need. Even clients who leave our coaching container, they know what to do. They're marketing their business, they're getting clients, and sometimes what I see is they leave working with us. they don't stay engaged or get engaged with another coach. And I see their business and their momentum start to fade. It is so easy to get in your own way. You know, you decide I'm gonna skip one post 'cause I'm busy. That turns into two posts and then a week the next thing you know, you're thinking this isn't working. How many times have you guys done that? You started to post regularly, then you skipped a week. You're like, none of this really works. And you know what happens? You prove it to be true. Your business slows down. This is why I believe, and I'm challenging you to stay connected with a coach. invest in yourself. Get someone who has their eyes on you and your business. Don't be alone on an island working on this. Get the accountability, it will create momentum. Anything you invest in coaching should pay back multiple times over and over and over again. When I teach somebody how to grow a coaching business and they go on to make a living for the rest of their life because of the foundation we created. What is the ROI return on investment? It's immeasurable. So make sure you stay connected. Make sure you attend events. Maria's event was incredible. I am not an affiliate. I just wanted to share those two key takeaways. Don't forget. To get the private podcast. You'll find it right below you guys, thank you so much for being here. I cannot wait to share what I've got going on for next week's episode. Don't forget to subscribe. We'll see y'all soon. Have an amazing week. Bye-bye.
