"Billionaires Look to Escape the World they Destroyed! | Thinking Out Loud"
In this episode of his "Thinking Out Loud" series, Double D discusses Facebook's rebranding into "Meta", and the social media giant's release of a virtual reality system known as "The Metaverse."
Double D reads excerpts from 'The Guardian', detailing how Zuckerberg has released The Metaverse at the height of inquiries in to how Facebook and other social media empires have fostered societal division and political polarization around the world.
Double D cites cautionary tales like 'The Matrix', 'Ready Player One', and 'The Lawnmower Man', as he ruminates on the virtual-reality-world billionaires like Zuckerberg envision. He examines how programs like 'The Metaverse' exemplify the complex systems of distraction which are meant to make deteriorating economic and environmental conditions more palatable for a working population pushed to the edge.
Double D touches on other forms of escapism, quoting science communicator Carl Sagan, and citing New Age Spiritualism; a myriad of beliefs and ways of thinking, where a desperate and increasingly ignorant population turn to soothsayers, superstition, and rootless spirituality to escape the hell of life under late stage capitalism.
Double D goes on to detail a vision of virtual dystopia, picturing cryptos as a standardized medium of virtual exchange and NFT's as a solidification of virtual personal and private property. Double D then quotes Amazon founder Jeff Bezos as he envisions a world where most working people live in space, while the wealthiest few galivant on an Earth turned in to a natural resort.
Double D ends the video by dismissing the pipe dream science fiction fantasies of billionaires, insisting that their machinations are more an example of their deep psychosis, than they are of any real vision of humanity's future.
