In this episode of his "Thinking Out Loud" series, Double D discusses an article from 'Truth Out', which reveals that the recent upsurge in cost of living is not a result of government spending, but rather a result of corporate greed.
Double D jumps in by reading excerpts from the Truth Out article, showing that despite that fact corporations have raked in their largest profits since the 1950's post-war boom, they have still elected to raise prices.
Double D examines the 'Truth Out' statistics, which exposes that corporations have used a slight increase in post-pandemic demand to warrant outright price gouging and profiteering; while using their corporate allies in Congress to redirect the blame to government spending on social programs.
Double D goes on to use this reality to explain how government spending has little-to-nothing to do with inflation, pointing out that it is monopolists using their unprecedented power to set prices with impunity. He cites the massive military defense bill, the largest in American history, suggesting that we never hear about inflation when the government spends billions on militarism.
Double D continues by ruminating on the moral bankruptcy of the ruling class, stating that while capitalists increased their wealth by two trillion dollars during the pandemic, 800,000 Americans died from the virus, millions lost their jobs, and countless thousands were evicted from their homes.
Double D rounds off the video by likening the endless hunger of the owner class to that of an addict, a psychological sickness which compels those at the top to chase the proverbial dragon of profit, while they use and abuse the working people who bankroll their addiction.
