What does Jesus mean when He says that following Him may bring division, sacrifice, and hardship?

In this sermon for the Fifth Sunday after Pentecost, we explore Christ's challenging words in Matthew 10 and discover that true discipleship is not built on comfort or popularity but on trusting the One who gave His life for us. While following Jesus may come at a cost, His promises never fail. Those who belong to Him are known, loved, and will never lose the reward He has prepared for His people.

Together with Romans 7:1–13, this message points us to the freedom Christ has won through His death and resurrection. The Gospel reminds us that our hope is not found in earthly security but in the Savior who calls us to follow Him and gives us strength for every step of the journey.
