And if you're back for another episode, thank you so much for joining us. We're so grateful that you're here. And we're excited for this conversation, because it's super important. Now we hear about personal branding all the time. And to be honest, it can feel a little bit nebulous, a little overwhelming, we might want to just sort of skip over it and get on to growing our business and working with clients and all of that good stuff. And so today, we really want to simplify personal branding for you and help you to leverage podcast guesting to grow your personal brand, without having to you know, take off months of your business in order to establish what is my personal brand? And so Christine, why would you say that personal branding is so important?

Unknown Speaker  1:59
Well,

Christine Amerman  2:00
this is something that I have invested a lot of time in thinking about, and in practicing for myself and for clients in various industries. Even my students when I was a professor right over the past 20 years, what does it mean to bring your yourself in, in terms of a business to the world, right? How do you represent your values? How do you represent who you really are, when it boils down to a post or some colors or a font? Right? And honestly, I think people make this really, really complicated. And sometimes we even use it as a reason not to put ourselves out there, oh, I need to redo my website, what does that come back to having your brand represented properly, right? Oh, I need to redo this or I need to redo that, or I need to do photos or I don't like my photos or whatever. Right? All of this falls under the umbrella of personal branding. And I'm here to tell you that simplicity is the name of the game when you're building a personal brand. One of the best examples of this is that I'm known for wearing red. I'm known for wearing red when I go to events, I'm known for wearing red. When I'm speaking I'm known for wearing red in my photos. And this has been happening for a while, right? My microphone is red and black my brand colors.

Unknown Speaker  3:36
And recently,

Christine Amerman  3:40
I kind of ran out of red dresses that I was in love with to wear and I wore a blue jumpsuit to a speaking gig. And literally, security didn't let me in because they were looking for a woman in a red dress. So that was our clue that Oh, Christine's branding is working right? When people start saying things like, wow, it's weird to see you in a color other than red. Cool. We know that that's sunk in, right? So maybe it's a favorite color for you. Maybe it's a favorite font. It's a brand is something that feels like you translated visually and translated into the stories that you tell, okay, it's very, very core, and this is going to evolve with you. So you're never going to have like that perfect personal brand. And this is also a part of growing your business. Like it gets to be something that develops as you grow. Now, underneath that personal brand is the idea of your story. Anytime you start to feel that imposter syndrome, or you start to feel like why would anyone want to listen to me or you start to feel like oh my gosh, there are already so many people doing what I'm doing. Why would anyone want to pay me money to do it? I invite you to take comfort in the idea that your story is the number one and the only thing that makes your personal brand unique

Unknown Speaker  5:17
and your replicable.

Christine Amerman  5:20
Literally, nobody else has the same story that you do. They don't have the same combination of life events and interpretations of those life events and healing and education and practice and results. And all of these things that you do. They just don't, it's impossible, right? Your story is as unique as your fingerprints. So when it comes to personal branding, if I'm going to really, really simplify it down, for the purposes of this conversation, what I want you to think about is that that story,

is the thing that builds credibility and trust for you. That story, is the thing that sets you apart that story is the thing that people are going to walk away from hearing you on a podcast and remember. And that's what's so incredible and so beautiful about being a guest on podcasts is that it is in apparently designed for you to share arguably the most compelling piece of your personal brand. The number one distinguisher of your personal brand, which is your story, your story. Okay. So when you are thinking about this whole idea of personal branding, right, and how to grow your personal brand through podcast guesting that is the main thing that I want you to remember. I was recently listening to Zack, Zachary Levi's book, radical love. And he said,

Unknown Speaker  6:54
stories are what store

Christine Amerman  7:00
and help us process information right that our brains are literally wired to store and process information through stories. So stories store. Thank you, Zack. And this is why we want you to focus on that story. Because you don't even have to try to separate yourself out from the crowd. When you do that your story will do that for you. So now that we've identified like the number one thing to hone in on when it comes to podcast guesting and your personal brand, how do we take that and leverage it to build your personal brand through podcasts guesting?

Unknown Speaker  7:41
Nicole? Yeah, I

Nicole Pettes  7:44
think that is a super important point that our story is such a key part of our personal brand that we often forget about. Because if you're anything like me, when you first think about personal branding, you probably think of what are my brand colors, what are my fonts, all these things, but really, you're not going to be able to show those on a podcast because it's an audio template, an audio format. And so it gives you an opportunity to now leverage this ultimately, really powerful part of your, your personal brand, even more powerful than any sort of color could be right by sharing your story on different podcasts. Now, you know about yourself, you're not just a single sighted person, right? You're multi dimensional. We all are we all have many different aspects to ourselves that go into our story that go into why we built our business, why we even do the work that we do. And through podcast guesting, you're able to share these different facets of yourself and really showcase your multi dimensional self as part of your personal brand, by talking about different aspects of your story in front of different niches, different audiences, right. So if you've heard our podcasts before, you may have heard us talk about ancillary audience angles. And this is really going to allow you to get on shows talking about different things than what you might think of. So for example, if you're a health and fitness coach, of course, the obvious angle is health and fitness. But you might also love dogs, and maybe you're a mom, and maybe you have a story of mental health or you know, figure skating, right, there's podcasts out there for every different niche. And we're able to showcase much more of our personal brand by showing up in these different ways. Now also diving back into this idea that you know, podcasts that go beyond the visuals of our personal brand, you're actually able to allow someone to hear your voice, hear your tonality and actually get a feeling for your emotions that come through so that your personal brand starts to come alive through these audio experiences. No longer is it just sort of a picture on the wall, certain colors, certain fonts, but now it becomes a multi dimensional experience for your audience to which ultimately people buy from people All right, they know that a brand, it doesn't necessarily always feel like a whole person just looking at a website, for example. But when we're able to hear someone's story, we get to know them on a much deeper level. And like I said, People buy from real people. So if you want people to experience you as this real multi dimensional human that you are, then podcast casting is so powerful in that way. Is there anything you'd add to this?

Unknown Speaker  10:25
Christine? Yeah, I

Christine Amerman  10:28
think that when, when you think about like, the leverage, that's really possible, right? So you just said people buy from people. And what I love so much about podcast guesting because I love people, right? And connecting with people is that this is a one on one conversation, right? That allows you to go deep, that allows you to deeply connect with another human. And it's also very leveraged because it gets shared. So it's like the best of both worlds, we know that in order to have the impact that we want. And that we dream of that we know we're here to have, we can't do that by connecting one on one on one on one on one on one on one on one on one forever and ever with a number of humans that we would need to in order to to have that massive impact. What we can do is have these deep, connected, heartfelt conversations with one person where you bring your story and bring your brand and what you have to offer to that conversation. And then oh, wow, it to be shared with dozens, hundreds, 1000s, maybe even millions of the right people. What the important nuance here is where most people go wrong when they're doing multiple podcast, interviews. And you'll especially see this with a lot of the big names who are going on podcast tours, to promote a new book, or a new program, or whatever. And this isn't really really an opportunity for you to understand how to be consistent with your brand messaging, without being boring, or a turn off. Right? It's important to understand that like, we want to create, we recommend that you create podcast appearances, where you have done some homework ahead of time, and you have an aligned strategy for how to show up so that you are bringing your key messages to that interview. And you're also not being a robot with talking points and saying the same thing over and over and over again, who you are, is not going to change. But the stories that silently so that you tell who that rhymes, those might change, right? How you relate to that Host Based on your preparation, how you relate to that audience, based on your preparation, and based on who they are. This is not, as you've heard us say before, and we'll say it again, a keynote every time you show up to record an interview. So trust that you can be consistent, because it's always going to be us showing up. But that by doing the work ahead of time to have a strategy, right by doing that 8020 preparation ahead of time, right in film, they would say 80% of it at least is pre production. It's the boring, quote unquote, it's not on set with the actors and the cameras rolling. All the prep you do ahead of time before you ever hit record is what makes the movie magic or the television magic, or in this case, the podcast guest the podcast episode magic. So bring your whole self to that conversation. And also show up with that strategy so that when you show up on 510 20 100 shows, right? You have that mix of variety and consistency to help listeners follow you around and binge you on all of the other podcasts and not just get turned off. The second one that they tried because you said the exact same thing. So you have an incredible opportunity to make yourself stand out in this way by doing this.

Unknown Speaker  14:46
