#184 - Why You Wont Let Yourself Progress Towards A Career Change
Show Notes

In today’s episode, I am talking about why you won’t let yourself progress towards a career change.

The reason I want to talk about this topic here is that sometimes people want to make a career change but they find themselves spinning their wheels and not making any progress.

What you will learn:

  • When it comes to making a career move, it may feel difficult to move towards what you're saying and what you want. But if you are not taking any action towards making a difference, then it may be that you're not thinking about the right things. It's easy to say that I need to make a career change and I'm going to go jump on job boards and see what's out there. But the reality is doing that isn't going to help you to move forward because when you look out onto the board, you may not see any opportunities that take all the boxes for you.

  • You have to try a different approach if you feel you're going back and forth and not getting the right outcomes. I want to encourage you to start thinking about things differently and say, that if you were to explore alternative options then think beyond your current profile. Then we actually start exploring what that would actually look like.

  • The job market is challenging and competitive right now. But there are people out there who are landing roles in ideal positions for them. My clients are doing it, but there are people who are willing to push past their fear of shifting to a new role/ industry. You might be seeing hundreds of hundreds of people applying for particular roles and when you see that there's so much competition out there, you start feeling that it's not possible for you to make a move right now. But there are other ways to do things, there are people that are leveraging their network, and the hidden job market so that they can learn, which is a little difficult.

  • Uncomfortableness is for a season and it allows you and prepares you for what is to come and the role that you'll be able to land at either an elevated position or you might be negotiating a higher salary or you might just feel like you have a much better lifestyle because the role is more aligned to you as a person. All of that is available, but you have to go through a period of discomfort in order for you to do that.

  • Making the decision and recognising  that when you make a decision that doesn't mean I have to figure it out right now. It's just that you're making a decision, and you're committing to the process of figuring it out. It gets your wheels turning and your brain working in different ways.
