# 199: The Power Of Metrics In Your Career
In today's episode I am talking about why metrics matter in your career.
I have noticed amongst people who seem to excel in terms of their development and advancement vs those that just do okay is that those that excel pay attention to metrics.
Metrics are something that's really simple but not necessary something that you pay attention to when life gets busy and work gets hectic.
When you pay attention to your progress it's easier for you to recognise your growth. Think about what you should be measuring.
The other side of metrics is where you will find results. Result matter to you, results matter to your organisation. So often when I work with people around optimising their CV or positioning themselves for new opportunities internally and externally, the results piece is missing. Understanding the results in terms of what you individually did, translates into the larger results for the organisation.
What you will learn:
Tracking your progress: If you're not tracking what it is you're doing, it is really difficult to say whether or not you're doing it well. Keeping track of your progress also allows you see whether you have stayed on the right track or whether you have deviated.
Receiving feedback: Asking for feedback when you feel that you are ready, so you get a clear understanding of your process and what is expected from you. Don't necessary have to wait for the annual review, ask for more regular check-in points.
Mental and physical health: Making sure your mental health and physical health is protected, so that you can keep driving your goals forward. Be sure to get enough sleep, exercise and eat well.
