Bonjour à tous, welcome back to the French Made Easy podcast. This is episode number 179. Today, we are practicing our comprehension skills with a little story in French.

So let me explain how that's going to work for those who are new here:

I will read a mini story, in French that I've divided into 5 chapters. After each part, there are comprehension questions to test your understanding of the story. I will not read the questions on the podcast, to try to keep everything short and sweet, but you can get those questions , with their answers, directly on my website.

This comprehension story is for beginners. But you’ll find a transcript, translations of the story in English, comprehension questions for each part, and answers to those questions directly as I was saying, on my website. This will be helpful for you if you want to cross-check your understanding or clarify certain points of the story.

All the links are in your podcast platform. It’s free.

Now, I encourage you to listen to the story first, a few times if you need to, then try to answer the comprehension questions, before checking the translations. It might be a little challenging, depending on your beginner level, but I can assure you that this type of exercise will really help you improve your overall understanding of French.

I will read each part of the story slowly, much slower than I'd usually speak in French, but if it's still not slow enough for you, you can actually choose the speed on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and I'm pretty sure you can do it on other podcast platforms as well, so you can just slow it down if you need.

🗨️ Chapitre 1 : Julie et Karim se parlent

Julie habite dans un petit immeuble à Lyon. Elle a déménagé dans ce quartier il y a environ deux semaines. Un matin, elle voit Karim, son voisin, dans le couloir.

— « Salut Karim », dit-elle. « Ça va ? »

— « Salut Julie ! Ça va, merci, et toi ? J’organise un petit dîner samedi soir avec quelques voisins. Tu veux venir ? »

Julie accepte l’invitation avec plaisir. C’est une bonne occasion pour rencontrer ses voisins.

📝 Chapitre 2 : L’organisation du dîner

Le samedi matin, Julie envoie un message à Karim pour savoir quoi apporter pour le dîner de ce soir.

— « Bonjour Karim, qu’est-ce que je peux apporter pour ce soir ? »

Karim répond :

— « Bonjour Julie ! Si tu veux, tu peux apporter un dessert. Il y a déjà un plat principal et une salade. »

Julie choisit de faire une tarte au citron. Elle a déjà tous les ingrédients chez elle.

🚶‍♀️ Chapitre 3 : Julie arrive à la soirée

Le soir, Julie arrive chez Karim. Il habite au troisième étage. La porte est entreouverte, et plusieurs personnes sont déjà là. Karim l’accueille avec un sourire.

— « Bonsoir Julie ! Je te présente Clara, Baptiste, Nora, Samuel et Tiphaine. »

Julie dit bonsoir à tout le monde. Elle pose sa tarte au citron sur la table de la cuisine. Chacun a apporté quelque chose. Il y a du vin, du pain, du fromage, une grande salade, et un gratin de courgettes.

🍽️ Chapitre 4 : On passe à table

Tout le monde s’installe à table, prend une assiette, et commence à se servir. Il y a une bonne ambiance, tranquille et amicale.

Julie goûte à plusieurs choses. À la fin du repas, Nora lui dit :

— « Ta tarte est vraiment super bonne. »

Julie sourit et répond :

— « Merci. C’est une recette de ma mère. »

🧘‍♀️ Chapitre 5 : Une nouvelle amitié ?

Après le repas, certains débarrassent la table. D’autres continuent à discuter dans le salon.

Julie reste un moment avec Tiphaine. Elles parlent de leur routine sportive.

— « Je vais à un cours de yoga mardi soir », dit Tiphaine.

— « Ah, j’adore le yoga ! » répond Julie.

— « Si tu veux, tu peux venir avec moi mardi. »

Plus tard, Julie rentre chez elle, très contente de cette petite soirée.

Elle commence déjà à se sentir chez elle dans ce nouveau quartier.

Et voilà, that concludes this mini story.
