This show is ostensibly about environmental politics. The grinding friction between our natural world and the citizens who have been chosen to act on behalf of society. It is important to remember though, even with all the fantastic powers and creations of humanity, we are beholden to nature and to the physics that govern it. The planet doesn't care about what colour ribbon you're wearing, it cares about the PPM of CO2 in the air.
This week on the show we are joined By Professor Kevin Anderson, Chair of energy and climate change at the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering (MACE) at the University of Manchester and a researcher for the Tyndall Center. We discuss the hard facts and modelling around climate change, what a 1.5 and 2 degree world looks like, the failures of the Paris agreement, who holds responsibility for decarbonising and the timeline of the last 50 years that brought us to this precipice.
