Challenges. We all face challenges. I had a challenge in launching this business. I had a challenge in turning it into a business and charging for it. And a lot of business owners have a problem charging what they need to charge. Because again, you're in business to make money, to make a profit. You could love what you do, but you still got to pay those bills.

SPEAKER_02

Episode 198. Welcome, new and old listeners. This is your host, Sandy B, and I invite you to enjoy this episode. Hello, and welcome to another episode of the 90 Day Wins, Every Dot Black Entrepreneur of Excellence series. I'm your host, Coach Sandy B, and today I have another extraordinary entrepreneur to talk to from the Every Dot Black community. Welcome, DeAndre Ford. How are you doing today?

SPEAKER_04

I am great, Miss Sandy B. How are you?

SPEAKER_02

I am good. I'm so excited to talk to you. So before we get started, I'd like for you to share a little bit about you and what you do, and then we'll get into my questions.

SPEAKER_04

All righty. But definitely thank you for allowing me to share my Kingdom Marketing Group. And first of all, like you said, I'm DeAndre Ford. I'm the founder of Kingdom Marketing Group. And it's a Detroit-based marketing and promotional company.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Uh helping small businesses and churches grow through creative, affordable marketing strategies. And my mission is simple to help people tell their story, reach their audience, and win in their purpose.

SPEAKER_02

Well, see, that's why I had to have you on the show because you get me, because it's so important that we use our talents and our gifts to help others. And so I know working with small businesses is something that we all need when it comes to marketing, right? So I'm excited to talk to you. So let's jump right in, okay? Alrighty. My first question for you let's talk more about what inspired you to start your business and how you were able to turn it from a vision to reality.

SPEAKER_04

Right. Well, the reason I started Kingdom Marketing Group, you know, I saw small business owners and churches with great ideas, but little marketing support. And, you know, I wanted to make a simple marketing and make it affordable and a fifth. And that's that's the important thing too, making it effective and not overwhelming the business owner. A lot of times, you know, they're overwhelmed with just doing the business or uh pastoring the church. But when it comes to marketing, it felt overwhelmed. So I just wanted to keep it simple. And then my faith, that drives everything for for me.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

Like I say, kingdom. Kingdom. That means serving others through business. And so you get kingdom marketing group. And I guess lastly, passion. I'm passionate about helping people. And I believe in their vision, you know, and then their brand, but I need to make them feel as though they got it. You know, they got to be passionate about it as well. And sometimes, again, when you're overwhelmed, you know, you can't focus on that marketing. You're just worried about, you know, keeping the business open. But in order to keep the business open, you got to do some marketing to get the people in there to know about your business or your church and your location and what you do. So again, that that that passion. And that's how I kind of just started doing it. I was volunteering and doing it. And my wife finally came to me, like, you keep doing this for free. You need to turn this into a business. Yeah. And so that's what happened.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I love that because it sounds to me that you realized there was a big gap. And then you looked at how you could help within the community. So I think that's so important because it's needed. I mean, I can tell you, DeAndre, got an undergraduate graduate degree in accounting, got an MBA. And it's so different when you are. I have a corporate background, right? So I can only speak to what I've experienced in corporate. So I like to tell people that I've been able to travel and do some amazing things and work with some amazing people, but it's very different from being in corporate and working with the people like you, right? To say, because I come from finance. So finance, marketing always wants some money from me. So we got to be very good friends, right? So I learned so many things, but it was on a corporate level, DeAndre. So now me as an entrepreneur, I'm like, whoa, what is that?

SPEAKER_03

It's a different thing.

SPEAKER_02

And why do I have to do that? And why is that important? And exactly what you said, understanding that if I don't do marketing, what do I really have? Like, really, what do I really have, DeAndre?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. No, no big success that you're looking for.

SPEAKER_02

That's it. That's it. Talk a little bit more about what makes this service so unique in the community.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. What we do with Kingdom Marketing Group, you know, we offer digital marketing, social media content, and again, we still do the traditional means of marketing. You know, you gotta some people like that paper, yeah. That something they can hold on to. There you go, there you go. You know, so again, you you don't it's almost like you want to do a hybrid. Okay, you don't want it all digital, but then you don't want all traditional.

SPEAKER_02

I like it.

SPEAKER_04

You know, so I mix it up. So that's what we do. We mix it up. And it helps, you know, we help clients with their branding. Yeah. A strategy. And, you know, online visibility.

unknown

Yes.

SPEAKER_04

You know, I and speaking of branding, I remember some years ago when I started branding, which I didn't know that's what I was doing.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

But I used to sell coffee for a business.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

And it was network marketing. So everybody was selling the coffee. So I had to find out how I can stand out from all my peers.

SPEAKER_02

That's it.

SPEAKER_04

So I branded myself as the coffee king.

unknown

Oh.

SPEAKER_04

I had a crown on when I would go places of coffee. I would go into the stores or the pop-ups, and the I was the coffee king. So started using promotional products. So when I gave it out, they got the coffee. I gave out mugs, coffee king.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

So all those different things. And so a couple years later, I would be out and about and I stopped selling coffee. But people run up to me. Hey, that's coffee king, that's coffee king. And to this day, people still call me coffee king. So I learned how to brand. I don't have a degree in branding, but I have experience in branding. So I take that experience, take it to the customer or the client, or as I like to say, family, and have them to brand whatever it is that they do. And people will know them through that. It could be something as simple as customer service. There, you're known for that customer service. How do you make coffee? How do you make that person feel? That's what we do. We help people to brand and we make it affordable. And depending on what your budget is, it's okay, let's start off with something simple. We got things called a Dollar Tree here.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

You know, it's inexpensive, but they have stencils. Don't go around putting your name of your business or your uh menu, you know, just handwriting it, unless you got some really good handwriting. No, you want it to be professional. So you go to the Dollar Tree and you purchase stencils. And again, something that's simple, that's affordable. Yeah. A lot of people say, I can't afford, I don't have a budget. Yeah. Okay, make a budget. It could be $50. I'll let you know what you can do with that $50, start market your business.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah. I love that. So let's talk about some challenges you faced along the way and how you were able to overcome them. Because based on what I am hearing and what I've experienced, you're really telling people, you know, entrepreneurs, small businesses, churches, that they have to learn to think differently, right? So tell me about the challenges you faced in getting people to buy into this new way of thinking, especially when you talk about hybrid, right? So talk to me a little about that.

SPEAKER_04

Well, you first said challenges. Yeah. I'm going to set way into what you're talking about, but challenges. We all face challenges. Yes, sir. I had a challenge in launching this business. So even though I've been doing it over a number of years, like I say, free, volunteering, helping, and just from the heart, I had a challenge in turning into a business and charging for it.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

And a lot of business owners have a problem charging what they need to charge because love what you do, but you still got to pay those bills. Exactly. So that was a challenge for me. And so with a business owner or a church, you know, come those same challenges where I don't have the money. Like I said before, it could be something as simple as marketing yourself with things that are inexpensive, that are aren't costly. And then once the business starts to come in, then you go to the next package we may have, or you know, some a la carte things that we have.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

If you're a book writer, we have what we have, uh the pens, we have uh the book covers or the tablecloth when you're at your setup.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

And what we do then, instead of you buying, you know, the t-shirts to put out there, okay, instead of where you have a minimum quantity of a dozen or two dozen, okay, we're gonna do just two t-shirts.

unknown

Wow.

SPEAKER_04

Two mugs individually. Well, you can now set it up at your uh table.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_04

Now once the business starts coming in, yeah, then you take it to the next level. Okay. So I try to help the business owner or the church with something small and affordable, and then wrap it up to the next level.

SPEAKER_02

I love it. I love it. And it sounds as if you meet your clients where they are because you gotta have a can-do attitude with this, right? So I love the way you are making it seem as if we just have to start. And because you're working, literally, I wrote in my notes, marketing made simple.

SPEAKER_04

Marketing made simple. And like I tell people, I like to focus on small budgets with big results. Big results.

SPEAKER_02

I love that. So many small businesses and ministries struggle to market themselves effectively, right? So, what are some of the biggest mistakes you see, and how can they start turning that around today? I mean, I think you just shared some, but please tell us.

SPEAKER_04

Well, as far as things that they can do to turn it around, yeah, what I noticed, especially in ministry, yeah, you're stuck in a way that, I gotta put it, you're stuck in those old ways of doing things and won't come into the digital world.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

And with the new, you know, the TikToks, the Facebook, the Instagram, and whatever else is coming. That's something that's simple, but you just gotta do it. The old Nike adage, just do it. Let them take the video and make content out of it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Now you're getting to your regular audience, but now getting to a younger generation as well.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

So it it's some of the simple things that you do, but the thing is to do it. Just like I didn't want to turn this into a business, but I just had to do it.

SPEAKER_02

I love it. So you're based in Detroit, a city known for resilience and creativity. How has the Detroit community shaped your approach to business and service?

SPEAKER_04

Ah, Detroit has shaped my what I do, or you see, it we see a lot of it on the commercials and V and the grit, like our Detroit Lions football team, Motown Sound. So Detroit just continues to inspire me. Just like last night, I went to an event for entrepreneurs and had a panel of about four local Detroit entrepreneurs that were sharing their stories with us entrepreneurs as well in the community. And it's like one with uh Lauren Stovall.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

Her family has a place called Hot Sam's Clothing Store downtown. They've been around for 104 years now.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

And what she shared was about telling stories. And people would come over in there over the years, they'd make purchases, they get the shoes shine, and just how they were treated. And over the years, they just kept sharing these stories, and like I say, they're still here, 2025.

SPEAKER_02

Wow.

SPEAKER_04

So again, it's all about resilience, and that's what Detroit is resilience. Just go do it. So I'm just excited that you have friends here in Detroit.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, yes. One of my sorority sisters, she is a Detroit native. So, you know, I got love. I got mad love for Detroit. Her and her family, amazing people. So I'm gonna have to connect you guys.

SPEAKER_03

Great.

SPEAKER_02

So let's talk about balancing business and calling. When you're juggering faith, family, and entrepreneurship, how do you stay grounded and aligned with your mission?

SPEAKER_04

Well, going back to my faith, that keeps me grounded. You know, because again, it's so much that you you have to do now. You have a business, you got your family, you got activities, like you said, sorority. Yeah. And it's just so many things to try to balance. So with me, it's my faith. That keeps me going when I'm down, or I need some creativity, I need a plan for this client of mine. Yeah. Or where do where do I go?

SPEAKER_02

Your passion should already be paying you. If you're tired of watching the months roll by without the progress, you know you're capable of it's time to make a move. The win collective is where you stop thinking about your goals and start executing daily guidance, real accountability, and a community that refuses to let you play small. It's my private community where you will take action and we'll do it together. It's free to join, and it's where the real connection and accountability happens. Join today.

SPEAKER_04

So I get on my knees. I have a faith in God.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

And He is taking me. Again, we have challenges and we have a this thing called life. It's a journey.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it is.

SPEAKER_04

And with this journey, it's my faith that I stand on. Yes. And that helps me with even with clients. I always say, what's for me is for me.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

For you is for you. So to me, there is no competition, and there's plenty of people doing marketing and promotions, branding. But it's not like DeAndre does it.

SPEAKER_02

It's not the Kingdom Marketing Group.

SPEAKER_04

Kingdom Marketing Group. So I stand on my faith. Yeah. Again, it's challenges out here, I stand. I'm still standing here today. What's my faith?

SPEAKER_02

I love it. I love it. So let's talk about how you use AI and technology in your business. You know, with every dot black, we are learning daily how to use technology in our businesses. So tell me how you use AI and technology with your Kingdom Marketing Group.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, AI is new to me, but through Every Dot Black and learning more and more about the AI. So I've been taking some workshops. Yes. I've been including it in the business, as far as even asking the questions. And it'll give me some answers. Yes. What I could do. And even with building logos and stuff like that, now you can do it with the AI. Yes, sir. So there's a lot of different things you can do. And again, if you're a small business owner with one person trying to wear all the hats, like a lot of entrepreneurs do, yes. AI can help you. Yes. You know, take that load off.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Again, as entrepreneurs, you know, we have a specific thing that we do, but a lot try to wear all the hats. Guilty. Yeah. And to get that burnout, get burnout at some point. So to me, I'm going to definitely learn more and more about AI and how to implement that into Kingdom Marketing Group.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

And then I want to do consult, you know, I'm doing consulting, but again, I want to do workshops and show other business owners how they can use this AI to help them with their business and their marketing.

SPEAKER_02

That's it. We can choose to win together. And that's that's one of the reasons why I like being a part of Every Dot Black. So you know that's the next question for you. What inspired you to be a part of this organization? And I love this question, DeAndre, because everyone obviously has their own unique way of how they found this community. So let me know.

SPEAKER_04

First of all, I can't recall how I it goes back again to faith. Because I remember sharing that with uh Mr. Jimmy Davis. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Um it was a couple years ago, and I wanted to take my marketing business to the next level.

SPEAKER_03

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_04

And again, I remember praying. Yeah. And I can't remember how. I was at a coffee shop then again. And I remember either coming across an email or something online about every dot black. So I didn't do it. And so then I reached out to Mr. Jimmy Davies wanting to help him spread the word about every dot black. And it just so happened at that time he was starting a small group of marketing people to get the word out about every dot black. They're perfect timing. God's timing is perfect. But I kind of fell off. Okay. Okay. And so I reconnected and I got on board, and he was doing the marketing again.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

And I'm like, okay, I got my marketing business. This is a perfect way for me to help other entrepreneurs get involved with every dot block. And again, just even on a Monday night, listening to the speakers that are on there are powerful. Even as they started off with uh the speaker saying a quote or something, and it's just powerful, and it's what you need to get you started to encourage you. So I'm just in love with every dot black, and I'm gonna take it to the next level, including it with Kingdom Marketing Group to show other entrepreneurs the gym that every dot black is and what they offer. If you don't know about AI, come to Every Dot Black and there are workshops. If you want a podcast platform, if you want whatever it is, every dot black has it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. It's so true. I I totally agree. I totally agree with you. It's just, and there's a recurring, there's a recurring theme that I can tell you based on the interviews that I've had with members like you that come on this podcast. Everyone is willing to learn, DeAndre. Everyone is willing to grow, everyone is willing to bring their gifts into this community for us to build together. So it's beautiful to hear and to know because I feel like I'm in the right place. So it's interesting. You said you fell off, but you knew where to come back to, and you knew you would be welcome in, and you knew there's a place for you here. So that's what I want people to understand. If they are looking for a community who really get the meaning, DeAndre of what masterminding is, because it's very unique, right? And so a lot of people say, like, come be in my mastermind, but it's not what this is, right? This is the if I can think about what I learned a mastermind is, and I learned that from reading the book Think and Grow Rich.

SPEAKER_04

Think and Grow Rich, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So I'm clear about what a mastermind is and what it isn't, based on that definition from Think and Grow Rich. And I can tell you when I go on Monday nights and I sit there, what's like you said, starting from the quotes, starting from the book references that were being read to, the announcements, the speaker, and then afterwards, we are filled with the opportunity. We are able to hear speakers, international speakers as well, right? Right. And then we get to be in the breakout rooms. And there's so many parts to the meetings that I love that I couldn't even pick one, right? But when I get that opportunity, you come in as a speaker, and then we go into the breakout rooms, and I'm able to ask you those questions.

SPEAKER_04

Yep. One-on-one.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. And then everyone is so willing to say, here, let's follow up some more. Let's talk. Here's my information. So this is a place where you can come and ask the questions and know as an entrepreneur, you're not alone. And then there might be that small business owner that says, you know what? Kingdom Marketing Group, I heard him talk a little bit about his business. I got to find out what he's doing. I like, I like, I like his vibe. I like how he talks about how he helps with small business owners. So by nature of just being in the call on that Zoom. You talk about having faith. When you go to that, like it's like, oh, this is for me. It's like that that meeting was for you just because you chose to go in there. And remember, we talked about just doing it, right? Just do it. You literally just explained that. We just have to do it, right? We just have to take those steps. And 90-day wins, you know, we're about celebrating our progress and our purpose. What's one win, big or small, that reminds you why you started Kingdom Marketing Group? So what have you experienced that you're like, you know, this is why I'm doing the work I'm doing?

SPEAKER_04

Well, first of all, my children. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Show them that dad is a goal getter. But I just love, again, helping people and business owners.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Again, I've always been out here I support the community. And so I'm one of those persons that when I go out there, if it's a good service, I'm going to let you know. If it's bad service, I'm going to let you know.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, sir.

SPEAKER_04

And hopefully give you some pointers on how to make it better. Because again, ultimately, you're in business to stay in business and to make money in business. But again, if you have lousy customer service, or maybe your employees aren't treating the business like you would treat it, it's gonna go downhill. Yes. So you have to check in on those employees. You gotta check in on your business. So again, that's and again, I love your 90-day wins. I've been taking some pointers out of that as well. Small things are there, that's a win. You're just adding up those wins, adding them up.

SPEAKER_02

Exactly. Yeah. I love it. And I want you to share with that young man who, like you, has been through some things, has experienced some things, and they desire more, DeAndre. They want to be able to start their own business. So, what's one practical piece of advice you'd give to that person, that young man that's listening to you, that's wondering, can I do it? He feels called to start a business, but lacks the confidence or the clarity, what would you tell that young man?

SPEAKER_04

I would tell them to first of all stay focused.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

And like again, going back to Nike's addition, just do it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Once you just do it and you stay focused, again, there are going to be some ups and some downs. But as long as you stay focused, just like they always use Colonel Sanders, how he didn't get a success until he was well until his 60s or whatever, older. But he didn't quit. Again, Steve Jobs and you know, all these Microsoft guys. The success just didn't come. They they stayed focused. And they kept going and going and going. Sometimes you have to pivot, but you want to stay focused. So I would tell that young person, you know, whatever the mind can conceive, you can achieve.

SPEAKER_02

Amen.

SPEAKER_04

So stay focused.

SPEAKER_02

Stay focused and come join us at every dot black.

SPEAKER_04

Come join us at every dot.

SPEAKER_02

Come join us. It will be the best investment you can make for your business, hands down.

SPEAKER_04

Matter of fact, I was telling somebody about every dot black, I think yesterday. It was yesterday, last night at the meeting with the entrepreneurs.

SPEAKER_02

See, that's it. Good people know good people. So we want to make sure we are surrounding ourselves with good people. Right. Has been a pleasure to talk to you, sir.

SPEAKER_04

Pleasure. It's been on mine.

SPEAKER_02

I'm so glad I got the opportunity to talk with you.

SPEAKER_04

Likewise, like I say, we've gone back and forth through emails and everything. And now to meet via your podcast.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Maybe one day after your introduction. You got the one the only Sandy D, 90-day wins.

SPEAKER_02

So when we do make all this money, we can take care of you because you got to get paid for your work. Because I want you to be good with your wife, because I would be telling my husband the same thing. Right. So you can have a kind heart and be paid well for the work you do, my friends.

SPEAKER_04

I like that, Sandy D.

SPEAKER_02

So thank you again.

SPEAKER_00

I'm feeling better within. I'm feeling better, but I'm getting the wizards. I'm feeling fresher than a new set of twins. Can let the devil get in. I'm in the yoga with the fuzz in my list. I'm trying to pull up with the fuzz in the bits with a couple of friends. We gonna level and we get in the windows. We wanna left and I just keep in my tins.
