PCC John Campion

"Everyone from one day old to one hundred years old, we all want to be loved. These con men and con women they play on your heartstrings."

This Valentine's Day as the West Mercia PCC's Cyber Campaign draws to a close, Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion spoke to West Mercia Police's Cyber Protect Officers, PC Jimmy Clarke and PC Rebecca Smith, about saying safe online.

Talking romance fraud and other cyber scams, the Protect Officers share some helpful tips:

  • Get to know the person and not the profile.
  • Speak to them and ask questions.
  • Stay on the dating messenger service, rather than moving the conversation to another platform.
  • Never send money to anyone you've met online.
  • Think before you send images and information.

To report cyber offences and for more information and resources:

  • Forward spam texts to 7726
