[SERMON] Dream Big, Surrender Bigger | HOTLWOOD: Goat
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
What does a basketball-playing goat have to do with your life's purpose?
In this week's message from our HOTLWOOD sermon series — where we find God's truth in the movies — we dive into the animated film Goat and discover that the biggest life isn't built by chasing your dreams. It's built by surrendering to God.
Will the Goat wasn't supposed to be a roarball star. Nobody thought a goat could compete at that level. But he dared to dream big — and that's exactly what God asks of us. Ephesians 3:20 reminds us that God "is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think." Our dreams are small. His are not.
In this sermon, we explore:
- Why getting what you want often leaves you miserable — and what to chase instead
- How God uses ordinary people(Joseph, Moses, David, Mary — and maybe you) for extraordinary purposes
- Why fear is the #1 dream killer — and what God's Word says to do about it
- The difference between building your kingdom and building His
- A simple daily prayer that can completely change the direction of your life
Whether you're holding tightly to your own plans or wondering if God has something more for you, this message is an invitation to trade your dream for something far greater.
Challenge of the week: Before your feet hit the floor each morning, pray this: "Lord, interrupt my plans with Yours."
--- Part of our HOTLWOOD summer series — finding God's truth in the movies.
Who's got next?
SPEAKER_05I got next. Step back. Hey, nobody talks about jet and violin like that. Excuse me, pardon. Hey, move out the way. I got next. Chuck up. Wait, wait. A goat?
SPEAKER_03Thank you for the laugh, little dude, but uh, why don't you just run on back to the kitty pool or something and get you an ice cream? But seriously, any takers. Even if I put money on it, first the shoes kind of your rent for me? Yes, well, connect. What are you gonna do? Let's go, ByeMet! Oh! So this is all the great vinyland has to offer. A goat and some spare chain. But you know what? Main doesn't duck smoke, so check up. Let's do it.
SPEAKER_02Everything counts as one. First of three, you're both.
SPEAKER_05That's one.
SPEAKER_03I'd fight a big for that.
SPEAKER_05Oh, so you do know how to fast. Unicarb me from all the way out there. Let's go.
SPEAKER_03Come on.
SPEAKER_05When I get that ball, oh my gosh!
SPEAKER_03All right, let's get serious. Looks like you're gonna make me take my change off. Take it out! Okay, I think you're an outside shooter. Now get past me. Oh it's out of you. It's my house. You're mine now. Shut the locker. Fool, I wasn't helping you up. I just wanted my cash. Thanks.
SPEAKER_00If only we can enjoy movies as much as he does. So yeah. So who has seen this movie? Uh The GOAT. No, just goat. Anybody seen it? Who has not seen it? You guys are missing out. So uh here's what happened. Uh I thought, uh, it's just another animation movie. We've seen some of these Space Jam, right? It's a Space Jam movie. Uh so our Lodge students went, saw it. My kids came back and were like, this movie was so good. So uh I watched it and it is so good. Like it really is. So go watch it. It's not Space Jam, it's something completely different, but it's got a really good theme, really good story. So I encourage you to watch it. I think it's available on Netflix. I think it's where it's at. Netflix, yeah. So that's a good movie. Uh, and so we wanted to show it. So here's here's before we get into this sermon part, here we we've got the kids in here. They're in here for the summer with us. We believe that the the next generation is the now generation. Uh, like I've got a graduation day from my daughter who was eight when we came here. So guess what? That now generation is actually now taking over. She's part of the worship team. Like, you guys see this? Like, our kids are becoming adults and they're starting to run things around here. It's awesome. They've been running back there, they've been they've been on our worship team. It's exciting to watch what our kids are doing. So it's important that our kids understand they have a place in this room with us because they don't just have to always go down in children's ministry. They're here with us. So this summer we do Hollywood because when our kids have come in here, we want to hear them laugh like that, and uh we want to see them. I've got Khali up here just clapping away at the movie. So uh that's why we do what we do. So if you question like why are we doing this? Because we believe it's God's truth, it's God's truth. No matter where you find it in the world, you can find it in movies because God's truth is absolute and it's unchanging, and we can celebrate it. We can also learn from it wherever we find it in the world. And so we can find it in media like movies. So, but today for the kids to help with, I know some of you worry about your kids being loud. We don't care, it doesn't bother us, it doesn't bother me. I have ADD, it actually helps. Um, so when it comes down to it, here's what we got for kids. So during the sermon, there are going to be the goat, the main character, Will, is going to appear on screen. So during the sermon, when you see it, you gotta count it. Your job is to keep track, tally it, and then at the end of the sermon, I'm gonna reveal how many times he is on the slides, okay? Now, this is for children, but some of you adults got really excited. So, because your children are heart, you're like, I'm in, I'm in. Guess what? The adults, only one adult got it right last sermon. So um so that's for the kids. I do have something for adults. Now, adults, I have something special for you. Who knows where my jersey is from? Oh, turn around. It's it's uh give you a hint. Anyone know? Right here? What's that? Soccer? No, a good guess, because none of the adults took a guess. So you are winning. You are winning. It's a basketball jersey, yes. But what's it from? This is great that no one knows. Um is it from a movie or is it from real life? Who thinks it's from Space Jam? Who thinks it's from Zootopia? No. Here you go. Ready? Here's the the the reveal. This is the southeastern Oklahoma State Savages and Dennis Rodman. I got it free. It was free. I had to do an influencer video before I got it free. It's one of them. Um but I thought it was from Space Jam until I Googled it before I came here today. So uh yeah. So that's that was just for you, don't but uh when we hear the word goat, what does goat mean? Greatest of all time. Who is the greatest of all time? Jesus, thank you, Chris. That okay, at church, Jesus is always the correct answer. So when you say Jesus, we we always know that's the answer to everything. So besides Jesus, here's what happened this past week. I was talking to uh some students uh who were in the CIT program at the camp, and I'm teaching through Ephesians, armor of God, and I told them this summer for me has been kind of boring at night because all the people that I play games with are all working at the camp, my three children. And so I just go home, that's I just go home and I sit and I'm just bored, and I'm just me and my dog. And then Patty's sitting next to me and goes, What about me? And I said, By default, you're always the correct answer. You're there, right? Like you're you're like Jesus. You're you that's always the answer. So we are one in the eyes of God, like you that counts. Like the dog's not, we're not one. So that's so that's why. So that's there's always the correct answer of Jesus. So throw that one out. Besides Jesus, who is the goat? Michael Jordan? Ronaldo? Did someone say Harry Potter? Wayne Gretzky, who somebody's a hockey fan. All of you guys. Michael Jackson. Okay, this is descending into chaos. All right. Uh Tom Brady was the was the first one last service, Tom Brady. Uh uh, so right now, currently in the world, going on last night, who is currently the GOAT everyone's talking about? She opened the Buckeys beater, the Tennessean. So yeah, um, if you're paying attention to the news. But Leonel Messi last night set yet another one of his many hundreds of records. He scored his seventh in a row. Uh, he had seven World Cup games in a row that he has scored a goal. Never happened before. He's the greatest of all time. Um, so yeah, boo that. Yeah. So but we were gonna talk about, we could have talked about Jesus as the goat, the greatest of all time, but that's kind of on the nose. We've kind of done that recently in another sermon, so we're not gonna talk about that in this sermon. We're gonna do something different. We're gonna talk about uh that God's dream is bigger than yours. Right? God's dream is bigger than yours. And this comes from the idea of not only this movie and the truth of God, but comes from Ephesians 3, 20 through 21. And remember the yellow part's yours to read out loud. It says, now to him who is able to do far more abundantly. Oh, that way. Okay. I'm not the goat, obviously. All right. Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen. What this is saying is that God, and he is the creator of the cosmos, the universe, and everything in it, he is able to do far more than you could ever think or ask. Like our dreams are so small compared to his for us. Yet we focus so much on what we want for our life, our dreams. And I think the biggest the biggest life isn't built by chasing your dreams, it's built by surrendering to God. That's the truth. You want to have your best life, it's not getting what you want, it's surrendering to God. Because for 28 years I've been a pastor, I've been counseling people, I've been walking through life with people, and here's what happens: people have dreams, and they want to attain those dreams, and they get those dreams. And that's what happens when they get it. They're miserable. They were miserable before, and they thought, if I just get this thing that I want, or if I just have this career that I want, or if I just get this raise that I want, then I'll be happy. And then they get that thing, and six months later I'm sitting with them and they're counseling and saying, I hate my life, I hate my job. I thought this was their dream. Well, no, I don't like my coworkers. Well, now I need another job, a different job. Like, the problem is we go from dream to dream because the grass is always greener. There's a reason we say that. You never can get enough. Because once you get it, you get bored with it, and you want the next thing and the newest thing, or the next opportunity, and the newest opportunity, and that's the reality of relationships. People get bored in relationships, so I want a new relationship because I'm done with that. I'm bored with that person. I've known him for a long time. And the grass is always greener. That's the problem with our earthly dreams. And a lot of famous and rich celebrities who are at the top, the most famous in the world, the richest in the world, they can't go anywhere in life and they're miserable because they can't go out in public without a disguise because everybody wants my autograph and everybody wants to photograph me. And there's been all these instances this year where celebrities are being horrible to their fans because they're just bombarded all the time by fans. And so they're saying, like, all my fame, all my money, it's a trap. I'm miserable. Now, I wish we all had those type of problems, right? But the reality is those dreams that you want, they sometimes turn into nightmares. Because you're living for yourself, you're not actually surrendering to God and living his plan for your life. And so every child dreams about something. We all had dreams when we were kids. Um, some of us wanted to be athletes. Who wanted to be an athlete when you grew up? Anybody? Famous athlete? What about doctor? Anybody want to be a doctor?
unknownNo?
SPEAKER_00Okay. All right. What about entrepreneur? You want to have a business. We have no dreams at all. You guys just wanted to play kickball at recess, I guess. I don't know. What about being an artist? Anyone want to be an artist? Okay. And then this is the number one right now for kids who are growing up now to be an influencer. Anybody want to be an influencer? Be famous on the internet. This is what when they they YouTube influencer. That's the number one thing has been for the last decade that kids want to grow up to be. And that's kind of sad, but that's the difference in our world that people have dreams. We all have dreams. And even though we're older, some of us, we still have a dream. We still have dreams. We have to self-desires. I'll be I have a dream right now. Next month is July. In July, the card game I play will have another brand new mat, champion mat, if you win a competition. Every month's a new one. My dream next month to win it. That's my dream. Like I'm just telling you, it's my it's a little dream, but I want it. It's a $20 mat that I could buy on the internet, but I really want to win it. So that's my dream. So we all have dreams. Big dreams, little dreams, but we're living for these dreams. And the reality is God isn't against dreams. God isn't against dreams. But God just doesn't, He doesn't just improve our dreams. He often replaces your dream with something greater. Because our dreams are so limited by our own capacity, our own imagination, our own understanding. And God has so much more and better for our life than we ever could hope for or imagine. And so the Bible's filled with ordinary people, just like us, that people use, that God uses for extraordinary purposes. In the book of Genesis, Joseph was there. Joseph was a dreamer. He had 11 brothers. They didn't really like him. They sold him, right? They wanted nothing to do with him. But he goes into Egypt, he has these dreams, he shares the dreams, he becomes famous. He becomes like secondhand to the Pharaoh. And now that his brothers end up finding it, coming into him one day later, and we know that many of us know the story. But he was just an ordinary nobody whose family cast him out. But God used him. In the book of Exodus, we see Moses. Moses was put in the river in a basket and sent down. He was adopted by the Pharaoh's family and he grew up, but he was a stutterer. He had a speech impediment. He was a problem, and he ends up killing somebody because he got an anger problem and he gets cast out. So he's living in the desert, cast out as a murderer, and he's got a stuttering problem. How is he going to be used by God? But God does an amazing thing with him and rescues the people out of bondage. In the book of Samuel, we see David, who becomes king, but David's not king when we first find him. David's a shepherd taking care of his father's sheep. He's just a young boy, while his brothers are off at war trying to bring glory to the kingdom, glory to the God. But he's just a shepherd in a field, but God uses him. In the book of Luke, we see this simple Mary, who's just a faithful young girl, nothing special, but God sees her faithfulness and says, I have a plan for you. He sends an angel and says, Hey, you're going to bear the Son of God. And her simple answer was yes, I'll serve. See, God calls ordinary people just like us. And so to do amazing things. And God doesn't qualify the qualified, he qualifies the called. That's the important thing. When you keep thinking I'm going to just try to achieve and do my thing, what God just wants you to do is say, hey, God, I'm going to trust you. And see where your path leads for me. In this movie, Goat, we've got Will, who is this little goat in this world where all these big, strong, fast animals play roarball. And he's from the homeland, the vine land. That's where that roarball kind of started. And there's this famous, there is a goat in Roarball from his hometown. It's Jet, who's this uh jaguar, and she's fast and she's she's great. And so he wants to be just like her. And so in the movie, she isn't, he ends up getting on the team because you see he had some skills, just not uh, he wasn't as good as Main was in that moment in the in the video. But so he ends up connecting with her, but she doesn't like him very much. But over the course of their season, they begin to bond, and we pick up the story where she he takes her back to his home, to his diner, where he was a delivery boy, and we pick up the story there.
SPEAKER_01Later y'all! How did you know about that spot?
SPEAKER_04I uh I go there for the pie. It delivers every time. Uh you were the delivery boy. Yeah, yeah. Was that a little too obvious? Okay. I mean, the real reason I know the diners because my mom used to work there. She was a huge Dorns fan.
SPEAKER_01It's for every year. Happy birthday, Will. Baby, you know you could wish for anything. So dream big. You're not just gonna play Raw Ball. You're gonna change the game. Dream big.
SPEAKER_04Then she got sick. And finally stepped up for me. Roarball was where I went to get out of my head and just play. You know? And everyone thought I was tripping. When I said I wanted to be a roarball player, everybody. Except for my mom. And I want her to be right.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, dream big. See, big dreams begin with small faithfulness. That's the truth. If you really want to dream big in your your life, it starts with small, faithful steps. Luke 16, 10 tells us this. It says, one who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much. And one who is dishonest in very little is also dishonest in much. If we want to achieve the big dreams in our life, if we want to follow the big dreams that God has for us, it requires faithful step after faithful step after faithful step. And you gotta be faithful in the little things, not just want to skip all the steps. The problem is we live in a country, in a society, where nobody wants to put any effort in. We want everything for free. We want everything to be handed to us, and we don't really want to suffer or put any effort in anything. We just want it all given to us. That's just the reality. That's why everybody gets a trophy now. I remember the days when you actually had to win trophies. So, like, that's why I like winning mats, because not everybody gets one, only the winner. So it feels like the nice I like feels like nice. But when we have these dreams, the problem is there is something that usually stands the way of dreams, and it's fear. Fear is the biggest dream killer. The reason why some of us haven't accomplished our own dreams is because of fear. Fear is always whispering, hey, you're not enough. You might want to achieve that dream, but you're never gonna do it. You're not enough. You're never gonna be that, or you're never gonna have that because look at you. How could you? That's fear. Or fear will tell you, hey, you're gonna fail. You don't, you can try, but you're gonna fail. You're gonna fail miserably. And then when you fail, you're gonna lose everything. No one's gonna love you anymore. You're gonna lose your house. You're gonna, you're right, you're gonna you're gonna fail. Fear just whispers to us. Or it'll say, hey, someone else can do it better. You might try, but look at that person over there. They're they're better. They're gonna achieve their dreams, but not you. That's what fear says to us. And the problem is, even in our faith, fear speaks to us. Why we don't talk about God. Because you you're not, you don't know enough about God. You don't you don't read your Bible enough. You haven't learned all the stories of the Old Testament. That's why you can't tell. Or you're gonna fail if you try. That person's gonna not want to have anything to do with what you say. They're not gonna listen to you, you're just gonna fail. So don't even try to tell people about Jesus. Don't even try to show them invite him to church. You're just gonna fail. Or, yeah, you might ask, but someone else is better suited for that. Why don't you let why don't you let Ryan do that? He just became a pastor. Let him do it. He's better suited because you're not suited for it. This is what fear just speaks into our mind, and it keeps us from achieving our dreams. And especially the dreams that God has for us. We don't actually move forward in our faith because we just listen to fear and what fear has to say to us. And the great thing about God's word, especially in the Old Testament, we see in Isaiah 41.10, this verse says, Fear not, for I am with you. This is God. Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. God is saying you don't need to listen to fear because I'm your God. I'm the creator of the cosmos. Why do you need to be afraid of anything? If I have a plan for you, move forward in faithful steps and watch where it will go because I'll help you. I'll be with you and I will uphold you. See, God-sized dreams require a God's strength and faith. That's the truth. And I think the problem is a lot of us don't dream big enough because we don't trust that our God is big enough to strengthen us. And so I think faith steps before certainty. We often have to step out in faith before we know what the results are gonna be. We see in the Bible that Noah is. He built an ark long before the rains came. God said the rain's coming. And he faithfully he took step after step after step. Could you imagine how many steps were in the process of building a giant, massive ark? Anyone see the picture of the one in Kentucky? I've been in it. It's massive. To think how long it would have taken, it would have taken decades and decades to build that ark before the rain came. Yet he stepped out in faith. How about Abraham? Abraham was living in what is modern-day Iraq and a city of Ur. And God told him, I have a place for you, and it's going to be better. There's going to be water and there's going to be grass and you're going to have these huge, uh, huge herds of animals. You're going to have the riches and everything that you would ever want. And all it's fertile, but you've got to leave here, which is what we call Iraq the Fertile Crescent. So he would leave this area because I got something better for you. But there's no internet. Abraham couldn't go search it in the internet and say, oh, what does it look like in Canaan? No, he just had to go and trust God that when he got there, it would be as promised. But he took the long journey to where God had promised for him. And then what about Peter? Peter's in a boat in the middle of a storm, he sees Jesus out in the water, and Jesus says, Hey, come here. And so Peter has to actually step out onto the water, trusting that he's going to be able to stand there and not sink and die in the storm. He had to take a step of faith. And so for us, faith steps before certainty. You have to, if you want to achieve what God has for you, you have to step out in faith. You got to trust him, you've got to stop listening to fear, and you've got to step out in faith. So the question I have for you is what dream are you building? Are you building a dream for you? Or are you building into the dream that God has for you, the plan he has for your life? Because there's two ways to live. Here's the truth you either build your kingdom, or you build God's kingdom. That's it. They're not congruent. You're either building your kingdom or you're building his kingdom. The problem is, most of us are building our kingdom. I want my house, my stuff, my money, my comfort, my retirement, my kids, my grandkids. It's all mine. Mine, mine, mine, mine, mine. And not God's. And then we wonder why we're miserable. We wonder why we don't have peace. We wonder why we don't have joy. Because one of these kingdoms fades, and one of them lasts forever. And we have to change our mindset. Matthew 6, 33. This is Jesus talking now. Says this but seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Jesus' words are seek God's kingdom. Don't build your kingdom, build his kingdom. That might mean that his kingdom is different than your kingdom, and it will be. It will be. We all got dreams. Here was my dream. My dream when I was in high school is I wanted to be an Olympic wrestler, and I wanted to represent the United States as an Olympic wrestler. I actually, after high school, before I went to Michigan, I was on a wrestling team. I spent three weeks in Central America wrestling against Olympians, and I thought that was the future. That is not the future that God had for me. God opened up other doors and he closed doors and I walked through. So I went and played football in Michigan instead of going the wrestling route, which I could have gone. The wrestling route, if you know anything about modern wrestling, that ends up in the WWF, and you make a lot of money doing that. I could have been jumping off the top rope. All right. That's where that life goes. But God had a different plan for me. When I met Patty, I thought God was telling me I was going into the mission field. I actually thought at the end of high school that I was going to go into the mission field after wrestling. Wrestling was going to be part of that. That's why I was on a mission trip in Central America when I was doing wrestling as part of a Christian team. And so I thought I was going to be gone. I was going to be speaking Spanish and some other part of the world and serving the Lord. And then God said, No. That's what you thought, Kyle. My plan is you're doing what I'm what I'm doing now. You're going to be a pastor. This is your mission field. And you're going to be here with the local church and you're going to serve. And you're going to your life is going to be for me. And guess what? His plan's better. It's not my plan, it's his plan. My life is amazingly crazy and insane and wonderful all the time at the same time. And I'm loving it. But I'm doing what God has planned for me. That's what I'm doing. We'll get you a movie clip soon. So but where are you living? Are you trying to build this and then wondering why you're so frustrated, miserable, alone, listening to the fear? Or are you living God's way and just riding the wave? See, God can do more than you imagine. The Bible makes it clear that we are limited in our capacity of what we could dream. God's not. He's the creator of all. And so I think this. We often ask this: can I accomplish my dream? Can I do what I want? Can I have what I want in life? But what God asks is, will you trust my dream for you? Will you trust me? Will you take that step of faith into what I have for you? Or are you going to just keep doing your own thing? I want to go back to Ephesians 3.20. I want to revisit it. Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think. God can do so much more through you if you just follow his lead than you're ever going to do on your own. God's plans are always larger than our expectations. But you gotta trust him. In this movie, nobody thought a goat could be a star. No goat ever had been. It wasn't possible unless that was the plan. And so, Will, he dreamed big because his mom told him to. And he dreamed bigger than any other goat ever had or any other little creature ever had. And so he ends up making it onto the Roarbarb team. And he we pick up the clip at the end of the movie. I'm not going to show you the very end because none of you watched it. Uh so I'm gonna let you watch the end, but we're gonna watch part of it where they're playing in the championship game.
SPEAKER_03And here we go, unbelievable! Maybe the crossing gets the tip of her lady.
unknownOh!
SPEAKER_06Hit on Jack! No found home.
SPEAKER_04What? Oh no.
SPEAKER_01This injury could take you out permanently if you put any more weight on this leg.
SPEAKER_06I'm sorry, y'all. Jet. I didn't mean for you to get hurt. Hey, it's not your fault.
SPEAKER_01But I think I'm done.
SPEAKER_06What are we gonna do? We can't win without jets. What? Oh, we're all thinking it. Look. Roots run deep? It's more than just a cheer. You guys have no idea what you mean to this city. My mom told me to dream big. And for violin, there was no dream bigger than bringing home a claw. This might be the last time violin thorns ever play. And we ain't gonna go out like this! Yeah, you heard the rook.
SPEAKER_01Let's dream big.
SPEAKER_00Well, let's dream big. What does this mean for you? Why are we talking about this? God isn't looking for people with the biggest dreams. He's looking for people with the greatest faith. He's not, God's not impressed with your big dreams. He's not. He's impressed with your faithfulness. You've got to, if you wanna follow him and seek him and you wanna be fulfilled by him and strengthened by him and upheld by him, you gotta be faithful. You gotta leave your earthly, selfish kingdom-building dreams alone, and you gotta say, God, what do you want from me? So the question is, have you surrendered your dreams to God? Ask yourself, have I surrendered my dreams to God? Have you? Or are you still building your kingdom, your stuff, your life, your family? Are you saying, God, I'm I'm in. I'm gonna faithfully follow you, and however that all comes out, I'm in. And guess what? Here's the promise of scripture. If you follow his plan, it'll work out way better. Way better. So are you building your kingdom or his? So here's the challenge. If you know, if you feel like Kyle's speaking to me today, uh, this is for me, right? I know I know the Holy Spirit's speaking to me. It's for me. Here's the challenge. I think we all need to do this. I think this needs to become a habit for every one of us. I'm gonna make you a challenge to you before your feet hit the floor every day this week. Pray this prayer. We're gonna we're gonna we're gonna say this together, ready? Pray this every morning, ready? Yellow. Lord, interrupt my plans with yours. And for the those of you who didn't participate, we're gonna do it again. Ready? Lord, interrupt my plans with yours. You want to change your life? You want to really follow God? You want to take faithful step after faithful step? How about you just tell God to start interrupting your plans with His and be okay with it? I love change. I am an agent of change. I love it. I love it. And so in my life, every day, I don't know what's gonna happen. I don't know what the weather's gonna be. I don't I don't care. Because I just the day is gonna bring what it brings. Because if God's in charge, you just kind of roll with it. And the and the thing that I love about being married to my wife is our whole life, this is how we try to live. So when my life goes crazy and I'm like, I don't know when I'm coming home, she's like, it's okay, right? She's not mad because it my plans are interrupted with God's plan. That's what interrupts the plans. And so when that happens, you just roll with it. And you just trust God. And you're excited about it because you're asking God to interrupt your plans, your kingdom building, with his kingdom building. And so you're not doing that anymore, and that leads to you just getting to the end and then seeing the grass is always greener on the side, right? That that's where that life leads. And every aspect of your life, the grass is always greener, the grass is always greener. God's there's no greener grass. It ends with eternity, it ends with peace, it ends with hope. That's where it leads. So if you're struggling right now, wake up every day and say, Lord, interrupt my plans with yours today. And then I'll be okay when God shows up and says, move, do this. Just take faithful step after faithful step. And if that's you, that's the challenge for you. Teach our kids this. And then be okay when your kids' plans are interrupted and it interrupts your plans because your kids are serving Jesus. This this summer has been super inconvenient for my my game playing, right? Every night I'm alone with my dog who who I'm trying to figure out how to get her to play games. It's be better. But my kids are out serving, building God's kingdom, so I have to be okay with that. So what I do is I just get in the car, typically, and go join them and see what they're doing and see how I can support them because guess what? We're building God's kingdom. We're building God's kingdom, not ours. And so I want to, I just want to pray as we as we get ready to close. I want to I should have just talked to God through his spirit and say, God, am I dreaming? Your dream? Or am I trying to build my kingdom? Let's pray. Heavenly Father, Lord, we just pray we can be a church where we recognize that, Lord, we need to set our own plans aside. That we need to work your plan, your dream in our life. Lord, we know our way leads to being just frustrated, broken. Lord, it leads to fear and failure. Leads to believing the grass is going to be greener once we get what we want. We're going to want something different. But Lord, we know that your path leads to hope and joy and peace and love. Fulfillment that comes through following you and your plan for our lives. But we pray we can dream big with you and your Holy Spirit through your Son Jesus. And we can build your kingdom by the way that we live, by the way that we serve, and the way that we're interrupted in our plans for you, for your glory. That we just pray we can be a church that's interrupted for the glory of God and to serve you faithfully with every step. And we just pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.
