070: Best Estate Planning Advise
Best Estate Planning Advise
I just ran into a really good friend the other day that I haven't seen really in the last two years, unfortunately, because everything that's going around in the world, the first thing that they asked me or one of the things that they asked me during our conversation is because they had seen our TV commercials, they've seen these YouTube videos, they've seen us on tiktok, and they asked, what is the best advice that I can give them? For estate planning? Keep in mind that they have zero estate planning, and the best advice I could give them is, well, just make a plan. Get an estate plan in order. Talk to your family. Make a list of all of the assets you have. Make a list of all the debts that you have and then decide where you want those items to go. Make an assessment of your family. If you think that you can split up your assets evenly between your family, then do that. But come up with some type of plan and then call an estate planning attorney to get an estate plan in place. And you've heard me talk a million times about how much I like revocable a living trust because of the flexibility that they give you, the privacy that they give you, and the fact that they usually will always avoid probate if you have funded your trust correctly. So the best advice I can give you is just start just like anything else in life. We all have dreams and aspirations. But unless you actually start them, they're always just going to be dreams and aspirations. Make a list of everything that you have. Call an estate planning attorney and you can even do that before you make the list just to get an idea. Most estate planning attorneys are going to have a questionnaire that will really get you set in the right direction, and we're no exception. Right after the video, I'll give you a link to our estate planning questionnaire that you can download and get started in the right direction. The first thing you need to do is just start.
