I am your host, Marion McRae, a physiotherapist & movement addict on a mission to see the existing model of treating back pain evolve. The current model is broken. It focusses almost entirely on the physical body, neglecting the fact that we are all both thinkers and feelers. When the thoughts in our head, and the the emotions in our bodies are less than optimal, we fail to thrive.

Our Guest for this episode is one of Australia's greats - Fast Bowler Dennis Lillee who suffered back pain in the spotlight of international sporting competition. Dennis talks openly about his back pain story, his insights, and how he is working now to re-shape the coaching of bowling technique so that younger athletes may enjoy less injuries and longevity in the sport.

We discuss -

Dennis’s tools:

  1. Physical - Pilates, core strength and technique for sports skills
  2. Mental - Believe there is a way and FIND IT
  3. Emotional - Become invested in the process of healing. Own it for yourself.

Dennis’s Top tips

  1. Lifestyle - Keep active
  2. Be proactive - look at movement patterns and techniques
  3. Give it time, it's a process. It takes effort

Dennis Keith Lillee, AM, MBE (born 18 July 1949) is a former Australian cricketer rated as the "outstanding fast bowler of his generation".Lillee was known for his fiery temperament, 'never-say-die' attitude and popularity with the fans.

During the interview it becomes obvious that Dennis's "never say die" attitude assisted him greatly with his back pain.
