Episode 98: IS IT A SIN TO MASTURBATE?  "Am I the Only One?"

This episode contains discussion about pornography and masturbation that affects all of us with a special focus on youth and young adults in our community.  It contains the personal testimony of the suffering of a young minister who lived through this suffering and was graced with the love of our Lord Jesus.  We encourage parents to listen to this episode with their youth and young adults to get passed the discomfort of the topic and face head on with accountability in order to achieve redemption from this addiction. An addiction that distorts the gift of intimacy.

We chose a few listener questions which we included in the discussion:

1. Is it a sin when it has become an addiction to masturbate? Perhaps you also masturbate when you are stressed out?
2. What do you do when you are going to confession for falling into sin and you feel like you're not making any progress?
3. I know many friends and students in my life who struggle with this but there are some girls (probably more than want to admit) who have confided in me their struggles. What would you say/encourage to  a student on how to break the habit or sustain the break from the habit?  What do you do when temptation of that kind strikes?
4. I think too, a big thing is many people have the misinformation that girls don't struggle with addictions to masturbation and pornography.  Many Catholics are influenced to think that sex is bad and so all thoughts of sex can be bad but that's because there is no knowledge of TOB.
5. I've actually thought about this before and I looked into it.  An yes it is a sin to fall into lust and lust is not only limited to sex and masturbation, it's really anything such as food and other things that lead you away from God.  that is what I boiled it down to.
6. Does it ever eventually become easier to fight the temptation? For me the temptation come basically every day and sometimes several times throughout the day and the longer and longer I go without it [masturbation], the harder it seems to fight the temptation.
7. I want to know if addiction to masturbate still exist in marriage?
8. People downplay this struggle many face as natural. Women are also promoting this more and more.
9. In society in which this behavior/addiction is normalized, how can someone overcome the "it's not a sin" mindset?
10. Are there any programs or resources that help with this behavior?
