SPEAKER_07He called and I asked my wife Carol, I said, You know, Coach Arquis just called and thought about going back to Texas. She said, I'll go tomorrow. My oldest son, Jackson said, Dad, there's only one Texas. You got to do this. So, again, really excited to be here. I see that I've aged much better than some of you. Kurt Bowles, the guy's been road hard and put up wet. I mean, unbelievable.
SPEAKER_03Will Muschamp back as the defensive coordinator of the Texas Longhorns Football Program. Uh, he has jokes and talking about the longtime legendary scribe, the Kurt Bowles of the was with the Austin American Statesman, working now for the Houston Paper as the media print digital continues to evolve. And Will Must Champ lots of jokes, and he's going to re-energize and instill this uh new philosophy for this Texas defense. I am Sean Clinch, the host of Stories Inside the Man Cave Podcast. Tiny Earth And Space Nerding Out
SPEAKER_03it.
SPEAKER_04So when we saw Tiny Earth, people asked our crew what impressions we had. And honestly, what struck me wasn't necessarily just Earth, it was all the blackness around it. Earth was just this lifeboat hanging undisturbingly in the universe.
SPEAKER_03Stevie Lee, all the blackness, the little dot. I don't know about you. I I I I followed that on social media. One of the positive things about social media, I looked at all of it probably two or three times a day, um, and try to watch as much as I could. Man, I was fascinated like I was a little kid when the space shuttle began going up. I mean, did you were you the same way? It's okay if you're not, but I literally nerded out about all this.
SPEAKER_08Uh, I wasn't as nerdy as you are right now, but it was really cool to see, man. Uh uh seeing uh exploration putting back on the forefront of uh of the Americas, really. Yeah, um, and uh setting up a spaceship uh to slingshot. I I watched the path and all that stuff. That was fun to watch, but yeah, I'm not as big of a nerd as you are on it, but I was a little bit of a nerd on it.
SPEAKER_03Hey, just call it like you said, yeah, no harm done. By the way, I lied. Mike Adams is uh conducting the star test at uh the alma mater of our guests, Flugaville Conley High School. Um, Mike Adams, if you were not aware, he's an administrator star testing. I did not have to go through that, I don't even want to think about it. It's anxiety-inducing just to think about it. I feel for these kids, but it is what it is. But we wouldn't be able to do all this without the namesake of this show, the Hardgrove Roofing, and all of our sponsors. And Stevie, they had a nice, amazing post about you, the man who does everything with the black hat, Hardgrove Roofing, based out of Shreeport, Louisiana, tremendous presence here in Central Texas. Take it away.
SPEAKER_08Hardgrove Roofing. Know who's on your roof.
SPEAKER_03That you do. And how did we get a hat that looks as good as that?
SPEAKER_08Um, uh, they they called me and asked me if I needed some more swag, but snapbags don't work for me. So they actually made me a real fitted hat, size eight, is what I wear. Size.
SPEAKER_03Damn, that's a large, that's a large melon. That's a large melon. And no doubt. Ain't no doubt. Hey, let's get things rolling, man. Uh, because uh I'm excited to talk about the spring football game that's not going to be, but we got to give our shout out to Rory McElroy, back-to-back masters champion. Um, Scotty Shepherd from UT made a he ascended really fast on that fourth and final round on Sunday. But Rory from Ireland, Northern Ireland gets his back-to-back Korean jacket. Hey, he didn't, hey, he did not hesitate at all to tell you how he was going to celebrate. And I I just wonder if the Advil bottle was uh uh open this morning.
SPEAKER_00We lose a lot more in golf than we win. So um I think when when the winning comes around, you have to have to celebrate it to the fullest. So um I'll have a I'll have a good time tonight and probably have a sore head flying back to Florida tomorrow morning.
SPEAKER_03Having a sore head. I think we've all been there, right? No question. What did you think? Just wrap it up. What did you see that final round? No, I did.
SPEAKER_08I watched the final round towards the end of the rounds. Uh I was rooting for Scotty, right? Scotty to come back, but uh I was okay to see Rory uh uh uh McElroy uh win it, man. It was it was good to see him win it. It was good to see his daughter uh um uh there with him, and then also the story of him playing a sentimental round with his dad the Sunday before. Good kid. I'm happy for him. But we do need some more Longhorns winning the Masters, though.
SPEAKER_03Hey, we've already had Speith, Scotty Scheffler. You go back to Ben Crenshaw and some others before that, I assume. But yeah, this I think the good the age of golf, the names, uh, the new modern day legends. I think golf's in a healthy spot. I really and we all gotta get you.
SPEAKER_08And I went out to um uh was it Texas Children's a few weeks ago, yeah. And I start to realize that these dudes are athletes, man. These are not back in the day when you saw John
Masters Reaction And Modern Golf
SPEAKER_08Daly and you know, stomach hanging over his belt and things like that. These dudes they take it serious and they're they're athletes. Um, they're tall, most of them are tall, fit, and uh, and strong, and and they put a lot of power on the teeth.
SPEAKER_03So they look more athletes, like yeah. There's no beer guts on Sundays, not anymore. All right, Stevie, it all wraps up here really soon with fan appreciation day. There's no spring game. Sark addressed the reasons why it's gonna be fan appreciation where the fans get to see them practice. What's your thoughts on that?
SPEAKER_08Uh, you know, you sometimes I don't know, man. We had a spring game when we played, uh, but you know, I I get it. You know, it's things have changed, and then you know, you got you don't want to get you know mess around with injuries, and then some guys are unavailable. Um, but I think they I like them calling fan appreciation day as long as they let the fans or really appreciate the fans, because here in Austin, Texas, it's pretty unique, man. They treat the fans around here treat this team like it's the pro team, right? And so um they really need to make make sure that they really treat it like fan appreciation day. I remember Coach Brown lined us all up and we signed everyone's autograph that they got in line. And as it got late and the players had to leave, Coach Brown stayed and signed every single person's that was in line autograph or or or memorabilia or whatever. He he still stayed there and signed everything. So that was real fan appreciation. So we'll see how they do it this year. Please just make hopefully they just make it a real fan appreciation if they're not putting on a show.
SPEAKER_03That's right. I think they will, and I think just uh I'll offer my two cents that nobody asked for, but I I I think now with the playoff CFP, yeah. I mean, let's face it, Sark, their their intentions are to play that final game. That's a long season. And I know it's a spring game, but you can get injured waking up and stepping out of bed. You don't want to give more repetition, banging on each other. Uh, probably not the best wording right there, but uh that's what it is, what it is, baby. Hey, let's talk more. We got to bring our guy in. Uh, you played with him at Texas, and he's a local guy, and he's very cerebral, and he has some good takes. Love hearing his takes on because he's into podcasting as well. Let's bring in our guy, Marcus Myers. Marcus Myers, this is a long time coming. Um, first off, do you have any stories about Stevie that we don't we're not aware of of back in your time? Maybe locker room stories. Uh, I don't think so.
SPEAKER_10I don't I don't I don't think I have anything, I don't think I have anything salacious about Stevie. Uh, you know, it was uh just always good to be around him. He was always a really good guy, was one of the guys that you know took our class kind of under his wing. So nothing, nothing too crazy that I can that I can uh share with the masses. Damn it, man.
SPEAKER_08You scared me with that one, Sean, man. Damn. But um, thank you for saying that, Marcus, man, because I always really wanted to be a good teammate. That's really what I I mean. I want to play football and be a good football player, but also being a good teammate to um the younger guys that came under me, like you. Um uh my big brother when I got to the University of Texas was Sean Hampton, or I'm sorry, Sean Hampton, Casey Hampton. And um, Casey would talk about you so bad that you would want to go home. I didn't want to be one of those uh guys for the young guys. So man, I appreciate you saying that, man. That that um that made me feel good because that was kind of intentional.
SPEAKER_10Well, you you you achieved your goal, and I promise you, Sean, he didn't put me up to that. I didn't I didn't know what our first question was gonna be, but uh he he definitely was a very good teammate and has been you know a great friend and and good person to know ever since as well.
SPEAKER_03He's he's like a big perfect little brother to me, and uh, I know you two are both alike. Um, so Marcus pride of Flugerville ISD, and there's been a lot of great people from athletics, non-athletics, all these football programs. You were at Connolly High School, um and now you're in the tech world, you're a national champion for life, played on those great teams for Mac Brown, and now you're a podcaster. Before we dive into Texas and Coach Muschamp and the spring practice fan appreciation we're having this Saturday, tell me what it's like for you, the transition for you going into podcasting.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, it's it's been interesting, you know. Stevie knows uh a bit more in depth. Like I've been trying to kind of fight the being in media uh title because it's it's one of those deals where like we're passionate about it, like we talk about amongst ourselves, you know, about these things. There's any number of group texts or you know, conversations amongst former players. And so um, you know, when there was been opportunities for me to do different spots in different places, I've always kind of welcomed it. And um, you know, people tend to like to hear, you know, from us, and and I try to um just relate things to maybe what you know guys could potentially be going through in present day, correlated to you know stuff that we experienced back then uh during the early 2000s on some of those squads, uh, and where there's opportunity to educate a little bit, you know, I try to do that, but I don't I don't take myself too too seriously, you know. I don't uh I don't have you know the level of preparation or experience that you know a lot of a lot of guys in the space do, but it's just been something fun, you know, for me to be able to do uh here and there and uh you know a good way to interact with uh you know Longhorn fans really across the world because you end up finding out that people literally tune in from everywhere at all times. So it's a pretty uh a neat way to tie in, you know, your experience.
SPEAKER_03It's proof, and I and I gotta I gotta point out to both of you what Marcus just said that former players uh it's the what they have to say means so much uh a thousand percent times more than anything I could say, regardless of my two decades in the media, it doesn't matter. You guys, it's important to the fan base, it's important to other fan bases like OUs. They definitely want to hear what you have to say because you were between those lines, you lived it, breathed it, everything. And and both of you are doing a phenomenal job on that uh on Texas football uh brand that Bobby Burton and that whole crew. I have much respect for all of them. And it's when I get a chance, when I'm out working, I I will figure out I figure out a way to use my Bluetooth on my phone to listen to you guys. And you guys make it fun, I will say that.
SPEAKER_08No, that's so that's Marcus. Marcus makes it real fun, man. I like hearing him talk on it. So uh man, so Marcus, really thank you for coming on with us today. Absolutely, man. Yeah, it's um it's fun to hear uh different perspectives and uh and things like that on uh Texas football. So uh I'm really looking forward to your takes today. I got you. I got you.
SPEAKER_03Well, Marcus, you saw uh at the top of the show, you know, Coach Muschamp coming back. Uh at first, when that transition occurred, that hiring a lot of people were like, What? Why? Because there were some people who who loved, and I understand it, he he did a great job, the former
No Spring Game Fan Day Instead
SPEAKER_03team, but SARS making moves, he's trying to build a national champion. But and I think both of you, you guys barely miss Coach Must champ that first go round uh by a few years. But when he says this, this sound bite right here really got my attention, and and this this is who he is to a core.
SPEAKER_07No thud equals no play. If you don't thud at practice and you don't throw your face in the fan at practice, you don't that means you're probably not gonna be a good tackler. If you don't thud at practice, that means you're not gonna be a good tackler. And the best defenses I've been a part of, they tackled extremely well. And right now in offensive football, you better be able to tackle and play in space. So we got some some guys, I don't have many, they don't want to thud at practice. They don't I call it a turn down. If you turn down too much, you won't get on the bus to go to the game.
SPEAKER_03Marcus, we'll begin with you. As now you played both sides of the ball, didn't you?
SPEAKER_10Yeah, yeah. I played a little linebacker the first few years and then switched over to fullback.
SPEAKER_03So when he says that, and I know across the country, offenses have evolved from you know, I think Michael Leach and Texas Tech really made it a big deal, even in the SEC now. Everything's spread out, everybody does it. He's not wrong by saying that. And and did did you ever have a turn down?
SPEAKER_10I I don't know if I intentionally turned anything down. There might have been a few guys I came across that that forced the turn down, but it wasn't it wasn't my choice, right? Um, but I think he's spot on, you know, like football is a physical game. Um, you know, your best teams are physical teams. Uh I've heard any number of coaches say it any number of ways, but I've never seen a national champion or you know, a conference champion finesse their way to it. Um, and as Stevie, you know, well knows, it's about trench play and it's about you know who's going to impose their will. That was certainly something that Mad Dog uh really drilled into us um during our workouts, and then by extension, all of our coaches. So I I love it. You know, I think um, you know, history has probably shown us some of the drills that we did weren't the safest of things, but um, you know, it it it built you uh a certain kind of way and it it made you um you know make sure that you knew contact was a pre rec prerequisite for the game. And you know, more times than not, um, you know, I know we still often like to ask or I like to hear guys, you know, what their answer to it is, but uh, I've not run into a whole bunch of football players when asked, you know, what was the thing that you loved most about first playing the game? And it it should usually center around you get to hit somebody and can't get in trouble for it, right? Uh I know that's how I felt about it. Um, and anytime I hear a guy give an answer that's that's not that, it's something a little prettier. Um, I know to kind of file that away is all right, maybe, maybe you know, this isn't necessarily for them. So I I love it, and you know, I'm excited about seeing that mentality uh on the defensive side of the ball.
SPEAKER_03Stevie, I obviously have to get your take on this. Both of you have again, both sides of the ball, Marcus uh offense, defense, and then Stevie straight D line. Um, when you heard him say that for the first time, what was your initial response? Because I've always loved his energy, regardless of what he said, because he's he does he he speaks intentionally, in my opinion, right?
SPEAKER_08No, that that's he was spot on, man. He's he's absolutely correct, especially in this day of uh offensive football. Um if you are if you you can get to the ball, but if you ain't being violent at the ball, then you you you can't see the field because you'll get run over or you'll close your eyes at the last second and miss the tackle and whiff it or or get hurtled, you know. So thud at the ball, man. I I like it. He's um he's spot on. Spot on.
SPEAKER_03I I could listen for an hour straight of just Will Muschant talk about the game and how he sees it and what he hopes he, you know, everyone because I do. I mean, Marcus, don't you agree with that players for the most part over time are a reflection of their coaches to an extent?
SPEAKER_10Yeah, I think I think to an extent, you know, and especially when you're trying to instill a more attacking style of defense, you know, to your earlier point, um, PK did a lot of great things on on the 40, and yet, you know, he was kind of known for that bend but don't break. Um, and there were you know instances where you sometimes wish you know the the defense embodied a bit more of an attacking style. Um, and I would also even go as far to say, you know, I think Muschamp was likely brought in um along with some of the other assistant coaches, um, that you know, a number that came in from the SEC, uh, even on the offensive side of the ball, you know, Jabar Jalouk coming in from Florida, um, to kind of make sure that as you're you know venturing into some of these SEC destinations that we're gonna have to you know go on the road and see this year, uh the the competition level ramps up a bit differently. And so it's it's a means in which you you you know help to install in instill an attitude in your team. You know, I know um I can't remember the exact year, but after one of those you know seasons where um I think we lost in the holiday bowl, Stevie. Yeah, and then Dick Tomey came in, right? And it was like this this whole you know concept of um you know things that weren't the standard, and and there was punishments that you know resulted in that. And so that was certainly my least favorite off season, but it it carried throughout our future seasons, um, both that one and beyond, where uh it it you know kind of reestablished what the expectation was going to be.
Marcus Myers On Podcasting Life
SPEAKER_10be um and and i think that's certainly something you know you needed and sark certainly felt that way to need to kind of shake up and up to get over the hump so i i love you know the the mentality and the approach and i i think it's going to help you know across the entire team not just the defensive side of the ball i love that because it it's it's a collection even if it's not a position coach or a coordinator even the head coach or strength coach it's everybody you you you you develop that that expectation on all levels um when stevie and i were talking about topics uh for for to talk with you and we were thinking about man you marcus can offer a lot of opinions and a lot of good takes and you know this day and age and we'll get to the portal part but you don't see a lot of freshmen these days just jump right in as you used to because of that portal and I've got to ask what is your opinion on right now as we're in the final week of spring camp for the Longhorns what are you hearing what have you been told about potential freshmen that really could make a difference this year because there's very few of them in this modern era that can do that yeah I I think you know you saw with Indiana and kind of a much older team um that was pretty portal laden that a lot of programs have begun to adopt that and I mean Sark is no different you know I don't think there's any real reason to try and go out and reinvent the wheel you know if you have some opportunities to to grab some high-end guys that maybe have some more experience you want to do that at the same time um you've gone up to 105 scholarships now so there's still opportunities to bring high schoolers in and we're always going to be in it for some of the top guys um but then you also have to have some you know developmental and more glue type guys and so um you're right you know your freshman PT is going to be a bit fewer and farther between um in this you know era of football and yet there's still always going to be a handful of guys that pop um I haven't had an opportunity to get out and lay eyes on the guys just yet but I know Stevie has and you know I've talked to some former teammates that have and I've heard you know both of uh Stevie I've talked to you know our buddy Norm Watkins um about you know some of the guys and um you know certainly uh Derek Cooper is a name that continues to come up um and while you have you know these top flight uh running backs that we were able to pull in out of the portal you know to your point Sean uh none of them have the body type like a Derek Cooper and so I think the great part is um he likely won't be fully relied upon early on but the hope is that it is a very long season that you know we're playing deep into January and into that championship game in in Vegas and that he's able to grow um throughout the season. So that's been a name that's been a pretty steady drum beat. And then I'm still curious to see you know from the defensive side of things, you know, who may emerge um the the DB out of North Carolina uh Smoke Matthews is a guy that's really looked apart. There you go right on cue so um you know he's magic and he he just he he's filled out in a way that he doesn't look like he's necessarily a true freshman I do think that's the other you know advantage a lot of these guys have that we didn't they they take up specialized training a lot earlier um and you know have some opportunities to get their bodies ready get on campus for a spring um so that you know they can begin to get applic acclimated but um you know he's a guy that you know continues to just there's buzz about him being around the ball and I think someone like him um can certainly you know take advantage in that Will Muschamp style of of defense. So those are probably the two that I've heard you know kind of the most uh uh repeatedly and then my kind of uh two have always been uh Jermaine Bishop Jr. just because I followed him really closely in high school uh and just think there's gonna be some opportunities for him because he's a bit different style of receiver and then what we've seen in recent years uh from from the Texas defense is there's always a freshman D-linement that has you know kind of popped off uh on the edge and so whether that's a a Richard Wesley or you know maybe a Jamarian Carlton that has the ability to kind of go inside and out I'm curious to see which one of those guys ends up kind of stepping up.
SPEAKER_03Stevie we've got between the portal and the freshman we've got some cool names you got Hollywood smothers and then we we just saw smoke samari smoke Matthews Stevie would I mean I haven't had a chance obviously I'm not a former player so I don't get that access and I don't even get the access that I used to as a media member where you get good you get high quality calisthenics opportunities and then you got to go out the door you get that first 20 minutes to see everyone limber up throw the ball around and then you gotta go but well what I what I uh witness man is um samari uh competing in in practice uh also witness um uh um cooper that you mentioned uh run sideline to sideline put one foot in the ground and turn up uh up the field and and break it wide open so the last person I seen that size do something like that was Adrian Peterson um against me so so so that uh he he really looked good on the sideline i'm i know we we went out and got two running backs but um I think this kid can be the true and I I think it's also good that we have those two running backs uh in Hollywood and the other kid um that we don't have to put so much pressure on Cooper but uh I do think he sees the field um I want to see how he catches it out of the backfield um uh because I know Sark likes to do that a lot but um he he he's a weapon that we can use as a true freshman you know I I've had several conversations um with uh coaches high school assistants and it's you know it's it's it's not damaging I don't think to the college game but you know I think the message now is I think a lot of high school football players who are very talented they realize now that you can start in division three division two or uh FCS the lower division one and you work your way up Marcus have you had any of those types of conversations because that's where we are now and maybe have you been a uh like a mentor or anything to a young person who may be that type of talent who may be getting discouraged that he's not receiving the offers that he may was anticipating out of high school yeah I think you know if anything it just kind of racks and stacks them a little more than ever before.
SPEAKER_10You know I have a cousin that plays at Klein Oak. He's a junior defensive lineman and you know one of the things that you know his his mom and I have talked about some is uh you know hey there's there's certainly more than one way to skin this right like there's a bunch of schools out there that are gonna still offer scholarships and if he's good enough if he goes out there and competes hard enough and puts out good tape somebody's gonna find him and he has an opportunity to you know move around if he thinks you know that's in his best interest. So right now he's looking at a lot of the Ivy League schools right and beautiful you know that that's an option where you know
Muschamp’s No Thud No Play
SPEAKER_10he's certainly smart enough to be able to do it. And whether football ultimately works out for him or not that would be a a great thing to you know have on a resume built for you know his networking but obviously you know most of us going into to college we don't know what we don't know we all think we're going to the league right and and so you're there you know football first and so to your point sometimes it's not even you know truly like the the FCS schools there's still you know some some um you know fbs programs that maybe it's not a Texas but it's a North Texas right it's a it's a a a Texas state um you know somewhere where you have an opportunity to go in China we've seen where you know Texas has even gone and plucked guys from some of those places at some key spots so I think it's um it's just a sign of the times man you know with all the money that's involved uh as much as you know I love you know kind of the the amateur aspect of the game if you will it's not really amateur anymore and these coaches are all paid what they're paid to you know be able to feed their families right and they do that off of wins and losses as as much as we want it to be something else it's it's just not and so uh that's also why the you know the reps in the springtime are so important because by the time you get to August if you haven't kind of made your mark um those reps become at a premium those reps become you know the designated for the guys that are in the too deep that are going to be the you know true different makers difference makers on a on a Saturday and you have to show them in the limited window that you get during the spring that if called upon you know you have an opportunity. So I I think it's just a different time in a different way that they have to look at it and um you know at times being a bit more realistic about where they fall you know within you know that entire landscape.
SPEAKER_03Man that's that is profound and to the point and now you you even have a member of your family who's going through it and you know it I I see I see why kids are frustrated but to your point the G5s are a great route. I mean and you see others like you saw you've seen it now like all practically all of that North Texas team is now to Ohio's I mean Oklahoma State and it's it's it works. I mean there's a fine line it's still tremendous talent it's just a fine line between it I am curious to see how all that works out at Oklahoma State I I will be Big 12 still great football in my opinion um Stevie we'll start with you on this since you play the position um and and Marcus mentioned it you know all games are determined by the trenches what you guys have seen uh what's your thought now as as we a matter of days before we wrap up are you feeling good as spring wraps up before you know the summer workouts and of course August camp are you feeling good about both the DL and the OL I'm feeling optimistic to say that I I'm optimistic that they will get better.
SPEAKER_08The interior D line um they just we we got a little bit of work to do that's all um you know they looked apart they they're big they look strong and things like that but we just got to get some technique things down technical things down so uh on the it's on the interior D line our ends and edges edge rushers they look good they're fine um I'm just talking about the the three in the in the in the nose right so um that that's what I'm looking to to to improve on our defense everybody else looks really good on defense uh on the offensive line um they looked good they they made the defense of the interior look bad so uh not bad I shouldn't say bad but they they they get they gave them challenges but um the interior uh offensive line man we're we're playing in SEC now and you know how much we used to try to talk it off when we were in the Big 12 but now we're in the SEC and we see every week between the tackles is a gauntlet right and so um these guys got to be ready to play every single week uh every single team no matter who it is um uh so I mean you can see what Florida did to us last year. So um you got to be ready in the trenches um every single game and I think that um you know they're hammering that into these guys during the spring but you know they they just got to come along just that I think if if we had to pick out a point of interest on our team is the is the interior offensive line interior defensive line.
SPEAKER_03Marcus is any is there anything that maybe about either side or both that intrigues you that maybe not enough people are are aware of or talking about with those two positions?
SPEAKER_10No I mean I think Stevie nailed it pretty well I was laughing and smiling when you were asking him the question because I know Stevie well enough he started frowning up and so I kind of knew what was coming and and it's interesting for me because Stevie is typically and and usually it happens closer to the season but Stevie is usually much more optimistic about the team than I am. Yeah yeah um I I don't know if in the past few years I've gotten like Stevie to actually tell me he thinks there's going to be a loss on the schedule before the season starts. Now he may not ever say it publicly but you know we go to the same church so sometimes I'll catch him before or after and we get talking and I'm like how do you get there again Stevie but so I was kind of I was kind of chuckling because I was like all right that's that's a little different tune so maybe I'll I like this approach but I think he's right you know I think it's it's that interior that it doesn't matter what team you go against in the SEC they're gonna have some behemoths in there man and and so you know I think it's one that's been talked about quite a bit but I at least on the defensive side of the ball that knows that we went and grabbed from Arkansas uh Ian Jaffard that's a big boy and and big man let me let me be let me be more respectful of him that's a big man right and whatever they list him at I don't believe it um but it works for him you know rod rod is uh you know rod babers is huge in the stats and he went and looked you know kind of across the country and couldn't find someone at his size that had played the amount of snaps that he played for Arkansas. In fact I think he played well over 400 last year which is a phenomenal amount for someone his size. I don't think in the Must champ defense he'll be asked to do the same. So it's probably you know the thought around lower snaps but um a higher efficiency and impact. And you need a guy like that in the middle um to keep your linebackers free. So I think um you know who develops outside of him you know I think Hiro Kanu is someone that continues to you know kind of excel um in his role and then it's just you know who else can you get to come along because for a long SEC season um you know we're going to nine games this year instead of the eight that we've been in for the first couple of years in the conference you're gonna need all of those guys and you need there to be very little to no drop off again if you plan on walking into you know play Stevie's familiar with Baton Rouge at night right if you're gonna walk into um you know Tennessee in in Nealand Stadium which you know if if if I'm a uh a scheduler right like that's that's your dream you know type of matchups to have Texas in a marquee position like that you would love to throw them in a night game and to be able to go in and come out with the victory that you're hoping that you know our our program has you have to have it you know down in the trenches and I think he was very you know spot on about you know on the offensive side of the ball as well I'm not really worried about the bookends. I think Trevor Goosby will come back and be you know just fine the young man that we got from uh wake forest you know I've heard that he has a a a nasty demeanor about him um they were able to kick Brandon Baker in and so it's kind of all right how's your your center and left guard going to shake out and I know there's you know the other young man that's transferring in I think from uh western Kentucky but he won't arrive until this summer um and then uh there's another young man from the uh high school class that won't arrive until this summer so you know you have a number of things that are kind of at play there and it took them some time last year to figure out you know what the right lineup was going to be. You don't have as much time this year. You know you have a really you know uh competitive schedule uh early and often and so um yeah that's where I'll be looking as well is you know kind of the interior but I don't necessarily know if it's any one guy that people aren't talking about it's more um how quickly can that unit gel uh once they've kind of identified what it's going to look like because it'll be much different I think in the fall than it's in the spring.
SPEAKER_03That's gonna be fun. And that's that is one position that I love to watch because offensive lines who have not played a lot of snaps together it takes it takes time to gel. Yeah but and I and it's it to me it's fun it's stressful to most people the fans it's like why are they not why are they not imposing their will they may but they need all to what Marcus said they they need all the reps possible. They really do um I don't even know how to make this smooth transition here but I'm just gonna show you the video what I don't understand what's happening with the UT women's program after they make their back to back um trip to the final four they're still a leap but what we've been watching transpire is very confusing. So that was a to a human who who has every human's play sports your final game that was gut wrenching the watch Rory Harman's giving everything to that women's basketball program the relationship between uh or with coach Vic that was the final game when they lost to UCLA Stevie we'll start with you then Marcus four I've not seen this in women's college basketball we're talking about four young women leave and and I'm not hating on them at all I'm you have that opportunity if you if this isn't where you want to be go if you have a better opportunity whether it be um il opportunities in a system that's better suited but when you have names like Jordan Lee Aaliyah Crump one of the best freshmen
Freshmen Buzz And Portal Reality
SPEAKER_03perceived to be in the country and then Justice Carlton and then Aaliyah Moore who I think was injured most of the year Stevie your quick thoughts on on those ladies leaving I think that caught everybody by surprise.
SPEAKER_08It caught me by surprise for sure uh I thought that um Vic had these girls uh ready to play and I thought that they're playing inspired basketball because of him uh so it was really surprising to see these girls up in um and enter the transfer portal um I I don't have an explanation I wish I did but um you know you're right they can do whatever they want to do um hopefully for Texas sake these girls are leaving because they saw the writing on the wall that then some new girls were coming in is going to take their places anyway so I don't know uh that's that's speculation and wishful thinking on my part but um it was it was unfortunate to see all of them up and leave like that but I think Vic is a good coach has a good coaching staff over there um and I think they can reload Marcus I hate to be so the state of the program and they're they're okay but I mean they're good they're they're elite level but when you lose that many and it's not to graduation or WNBA draft is this concerning for you I mean they do have one of the top two classes in America coming in as far as their signing class I mean to I'd love to hear what you have you know um and y'all pull the you know yank me off stage here when you need to because I can get rolling about some women's basketball all right um I'm a seasoned ticket holder awesome so I I catch more of their games than I don't uh in person uh and actually growing up here in Austin I probably need to ask my mom how I got into this but there was a while where um I used to work some of the women's games uh back in coach comrades day when I was a kid I would be down on the baseline and you know if the ball would go to the other end of the court you run out and kind of wipe it off wipe the court off to you know make sure they don't slip in any sweat or anything like that.
SPEAKER_10So so I I've been tracking you know Texas women's basketball for a long time. And so I'll throw a couple things out there. One, um all due respect to the young lady um uh I believe it's uh Moore. She's a she's a going to be a grad transfer. Right. She didn't she wasn't really with the team you know this past year. So um when you you talk about the headlines it it it makes it a lot more salacious if you say it's four players and not three. So it's really only you know three players that contributed this year. That being said you're right it's it's not maybe uh as common but if you look you know you know just to the east of us um there was a period where Tennessee had one player on their team um they pretty much had their entire team defect right so I think this is more of a a kind of a sign of the times uh to Stevie's point about coach Schaefer he has a certain style and it's very defensive forward um and not everybody always wants to kind of get that down and and and gritty you know when it when it really comes down to it and so um you know you you astutely pointed out Sean you know there's I think four um uh four or five stars coming in as well as a young lady that um was you know playing in Europe her older sister played at Oregon we flipped her from UCLA who happened to be the national champion so I I think there is an element of hey there's you know some some you know younger players that are coming in that are just as talented as some of the ones that were leaving if not potentially better down the road uh as well as you know maybe them just feeling you know that there's another home for them and and I take a similar approach to the portal as I did Um in um football as I as I do with women's basketball. And theirs has been a little bit slower, but I also like to see where do you end up going. So you you pointed out Aliyah Crump, uh, she ended up committing to Duke. Um men's basketball, phenomenal. Duke's women's basketball's good, but it's not, you know, in that upper echelon that uh Texas and South Carolina, Yukon has been in. So I always like to see where they land. Um, you know, if some of them end up, you know, going to like South Carolina or Yukon, then maybe I'll feel a little bit differently. If you're taking a bit of a step back, then it says to me, maybe you wanted to be a bit more of a star. And the reality is um in Madison Booker's final season, you know, even though her last game uh final four run didn't turn out how she wanted it and how any of us wanted it, um, she's still gonna be the focal point of that team next year. And I think, you know, sometimes some of them just look at it as like, hey, I I have that capability as well. And I know I'm not gonna get that here in Maddie's last season. And so um, I'll be interested to see you know what Vic decides to do in the portal. Um, I I don't really have too many concerns because I think he's a proven coach and he's you know gone to multiple Final Fours uh with multiple teams. So, you know, I think he's earned my trust to this point. Um, and you know, it maybe isn't ideal, but I don't know if I'm I'm running for the Hills just yet. If Maddie had jumped in the portal, maybe we have a different conversation. Um, but she's coming back, so I think he'll have enough to build around.
SPEAKER_03Think about it, they played their worst game ever, at least this season, and they still were that close to beating UCLA.
SPEAKER_10And then I think the thing about that one is in hindsight, they're they're gonna really hate that they let that one get away because I think they would have won the national championship. I really do. Agreed, and and you didn't even need them to have a good game, right? Like if they just hadn't played awful, um, then then I think the story is a little different.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, and I I I don't I I don't think that they played that bad. I think that they just didn't hit the shots. The the shots just weren't right enough.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, that's what I mean. If if you're if you look up and I don't know what the final was, but I remember at one point it was like they were 20 of 60 something, right? Yeah, yeah. You just go 30 of that, right? Like just make half of them. I don't even need you to to be doing well, right? I don't even need the passing grade here, but if you just make four or five more shots, that game you know goes a different way.
SPEAKER_03Much different, much different. Uh, and and to your point, Marcus, you you have to be a certain-minded, coachable, pliable, whatever term we're gonna use to play that defensive first mentality that Coach Vic coaches. I'm not, and it is not an insult that those ladies who transferred some you you're either made to play that way or you're not, and that's I think that's what this is. Yeah, so you brought up some really, really good points, guys. I don't get too biased sometimes, but I have to. Uh hey, NBA viewership's about to pick up big time when the playoffs tip off this weekend. And then I've got one question. Um are these guys going to repeat? You're gonna limitation. Marcus, will this happen again in Oklahoma City? A victory parade celebrating another NBA championship in OKC.
SPEAKER_10I'll be I'll be honest with you, Sean. I am one of those viewers that starts to watch about this time of year. Like the the level of tanking that takes place on one side of the spectrum, you know, the the the foul merchants that are on the other side of the spectrum. Um, and then like it just kind of all the madness that happens throughout. I looked up at one point, you know, I saw one of the graphics that said like like six or seven of the guys that in a normal year would be MVP candidates hadn't played enough games to be in the MVP conversation. So um I I haven't followed it extremely closely. I I do know that OKC is still doing their thing. Um what's been really interesting to me, and I was I was there uh this past Friday uh briefly, but Detroit kind of making a resurgence in the east and and playing kind of this new version of bad boy basketball is is kind of interesting to me. But uh, I need to take a look at some of the matchups, man. And and this will be where I start to actually watch some NBA ball um this year. Because now that and then like it's just too hard for me to find the game. It's like I'm not a diehard about any one team enough to really follow. But I mean, they're like on channels I've never heard of. So um, yeah, it's it's it's a little different, but you're right. Viewership is about to spike, and and I'll be a part of that number trying to get up to speed and figure out who I think has the best shot at.
SPEAKER_03Stevie, you you know, you know where my passion rides, and I try to be objective about it, but I'm not gonna hide it. I've been a day one guy. We came close in 2012, 2013. Russell Westbrook gets hurt in the playoffs.
Trench Play And SEC Concerns
SPEAKER_03Oh my god, Patrick Beverly with the Rockets. Yeah, I have a vendetta against him for that. Hurting Russell Westbrook. Yeah, I'm over it, clearly.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, well, um OKC is good. Uh, I like them, but I I think I got the Spurs, man, coming out of the West.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_08The Spurs coming out of the West, and I got Cleveland. And Marcus, you're right. Detroit is is um surging. I I watch a little bit, a little bit more NBA basketball. Um, yeah, nowadays you have to go find it. You're exactly right. You have to yeah, the streaming stuff is getting out of hand, anyway. Um, I think Cleveland is gonna come out of the east. Okay, I think Detroit is good, but I think Cleveland, they have the experience for playing uh high-level playoff basketball, and I think that this is this is their year to actually come out of the east. So if I have to pick uh the NBA finals will be San Antonio Spurs and the Cleveland uh Cavaliers.
SPEAKER_03That's fair, that's fair. Yeah, so Detroit. I have a lot when Marcus mentioned the old the bad boys. I I grew up with Dumas, Lamber, that group. I mean, they won back to back, if I remember right, and they were nasty, nasty nowadays. You'd probably get technical fouls the way they play. Oh, yeah. But I'll have to push on you a little bit, Stevie. I think San Antonio is really good, and but I don't know if they can survive in a series say seeing OKC one for a whole series over and over and over. They've proven that they can beat them in the regulars, yes, three times, I believe.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, but Wimby Wimby can drop 40 to 50 points on you once he gets going. Oh, he's so uh I know uh talent. Uh uh what is it? S what's his Jordan SGA SGA? Uh he can go off, but it's so effortless when Wimby goes off. It's different.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, it's it's it's SGA's gonna get to the the free throw line 25 times a game, though. They're gonna they're gonna give him every he gets the Jordan calls, man.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, he does, but Wimby is so long and SGA is so little. Once he gets into the paint, that's fair. Wimby says, back off of him because I can block him without using his body. So um I think it's a that's gonna be a really good matchup if they even get to that. But um I still I got uh the Spurs are ahead of schedule, and then the spirit of the Spurs that they're gonna ride their crowd, they're gonna ride the spirit of uh of the ghost of uh the twin towers with um the admiral and uh Tim Duncan and all that stuff. They just got it in them, and and they're gonna want to win for the city and for the team and all that stuff. So I I don't know, man. I I I believe in that's that type of stuff sometimes. It's I think the spirit of San Antonio is gonna rise because they they were building a championship team, but they really are ahead of schedule right now.
SPEAKER_03They're about two years ahead, in my opinion.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_10Are they the top two seeds in the West? Yeah, OKC and San Antonio. Okay, so so their matchup would have to be in the Western Conference Finals, right? Right, got it.
SPEAKER_08So yeah, I do think that that that could happen. Uh I uh and if I'm putting money on it, it's that will happen.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Last time they met 2012 NBA Finals. I was working for the Fox affiliate in Oklahoma City. You know, Fox stations have that ridiculous 9 p.m. newscast, and I had to step out of the arena, go on to Reno Avenue, which is to do a live shot to tell people what they're watching. And what I did some feature story. Well, the owner of ATT, who's like was with a younger, younger, attractive blonde, they came on to the live shot. They had they had a few uh beverages, and we ended up after the live shot at the uh historic hotel down the road, um the Skirvin, that's haunted, the red piano bar. Charles Barkley was behind the bar serving people drinks.
SPEAKER_08Wow.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that's a story, right? Therecus Myers, the Mac Brown had a great story. Great story. Well, he's a king of stories to begin with, and there have been some amazing stories that people just let their guard down, and some of them are short, some of them very long, all of which high quality. Is there any story from your playing days currently, or any time that's a story that is just as comical as it was when it happened?
SPEAKER_10I don't I don't know if uh I don't know if any of the truly funny ones I can tell. I can maybe tell a couple entertaining ones, but the best ones you just can't tell. Like I can't go down. I don't get it. Um, I will I will tell you, um, there were certainly
Texas Women’s Basketball Portal Shock
SPEAKER_10some funny stories that and and interesting and entertaining nights that came out of the drink, uh, which was a spot that we frequented on Sixth Street. Um, and and I think the statue with limitations is up on this kind of thing. So this is I agree. This is this is PG enough to where it won't get anybody in trouble. Um, you know, when I came in in 02, uh Chris Sims, Corey Redding, those guys were seniors, and so um I didn't fully understand like the gravity of Texas football because you gotta understand, like, even being here in Austin, I grew up a Texas Tech Red Raider fan. My dad played running back for Texas Tech. Okay, so I didn't know that me going to Texas really just was a product of five linebackers graduating, um, you know, and me thinking that I had a shot at playing, and so they brought in five guys uh to help replace the five that were on the way out the door, and so I didn't really grasp it, you know, I didn't really go downtown much. Uh and so UT and that was it was like a whole world away. Uh so when I got to campus, uh, you know, it was very different. You know, when I was hosted on my visit, I was hosted by Cedric Benson and Derrick Johnson. Um, you know, Steve, you remember said B had that like candy green escalade, you know, back in the day. So, you know, rest in peace to him. But uh, so you know, first of all, when he picked me up, picked me and uh Larry Dibbles. Larry Dibbles was Larry Dibbles was said's um you know recruit, and DJ was was my host. And so when they picked us up, I was like, okay, this is a little different. And um, you'll remember, Stevie, the the Gables, you know, that was kind of like the it apartment complex back in the day, it was over by uh Central Market, and so Chris Sims and Kyle Shanahan had apartments across from one another, and so we used to go over there in pregame, and you take whatever pregame means to you is that we did that, and then um everybody would kind of like mob out down to 6th street, and I think when I really realized you know UT football was different, and that we really were kind of the pro team in town, was that uh we would get to the door and it was just like this wave of people, you know, huge human beings walking down you know, Sixth Street, coming from all directions. We used to park at the Omni, so you walk down this big hill. Um, and then Sims would get to the door, and he would open the door, and there would usually be a line like wrapped around the corner, but they wouldn't open the upstairs part until we got there. And so Sims would open the door, and there would be a flood of people that would just get to go in. It was, you know, anybody that you know was a player and anybody that was with us. Um, but then C Red would be at the back, and once he went in, they'd close the door, nobody else could get in. They would open upstairs and we'd go upstairs and have a good night. So party that was yeah, that was my introduction to okay, this Texas football is different. Now, the the thing that you know took me a little bit of time to get a grasp of was um we also worked really, really hard, right? So then trying to figure out how you balance the two um, you know, was was something that you had to kind of grow into. Uh, but that was kind of my first experience of kind of the rock stardom of UT football. Uh, and so I always kind of wonder like what do guys even do today, you know, because I can't imagine they're going down to dirty six and they actually have money, you know. We we we you know, we were just trying to figure it out and and find ways to have a good time. Um, and and these guys, like, you know, on spring break, like I think I saw you know, uh Colin doing like a uh Amazon commercial with Alexa and telling her like me and the boys are going to Cabo or something. I don't know if that was just a bit or what, but you know, they can actually afford to do it. Uh, we were still broke college students for the four and and just kind of living off uh of you know upperclassmen's name. But but that was my introduction, and I had many, many great nights at the drink.
SPEAKER_03And that that's a safe man case story. You did well, yeah.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, I think I I kept everybody clean, you know. Anyone that's married can't get anybody in trouble that way.
SPEAKER_08Like it's a it's a good wholesome story. The the the most fun nights I've had, and those nights were great, but the most fun I had was when the older guys would come back, yep, that had gone on to the league and made some money, and they would come back and show love to the young guys and um and take us out or take us to dinner with them or or or give them a give us a ride in their new escalade or something like that. You know, yeah. So that was the most fun that I had. But man, you you're exactly right.
SPEAKER_10There's some stories in the in the drink that just can't come out, they just there's no statute, there's no statute of limitations on some of those, but to your point too, Stevie, you mentioned Sean earlier. I remember one of my first interactions with Sean and Casey was in the drink, and it was a situation where um they basically gave me an option, and it was you know, you can drink this drink, and any drink that I present you, or um, you could deal with me. And and the me was was a Sean or Casey, and and to Stevie's point earlier, uh, those were not the guys you wanted to cross, you didn't want to test. And so um I remember very vividly, you know, as a as a freshman, there was a time they had come back during the offseason, and uh I I just I I couldn't figure out how I was gonna survive the night, but I did. Um, but I just learned really quickly I better not turn down a drink because I had a teammate that you know wanted to kind of big time them and and tell them no. And um that didn't turn out the greatest for those for that guy. So I I learned real quick, like, hey, I if they present me with something, it's going down the hatch. So uh yeah, that's how I did it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. 100%. That is hilarious. Did you guys have to pay for any tab at the drink? Uh yeah, at the drink.
SPEAKER_08Um, for the most part, no. If it was a slow night, and you know, it was just a few players in there, then yeah, we'll we'll buy a couple drinks ourselves. But but if the player, if the older players that are coming back in the town from the NFL, they would pick up everything mostly. And and a lot of times they'd end up behind the bar.
SPEAKER_10They would be the ones like they they could just walk back there, yeah. Um, yeah, so it it um he's he's right. You know, if it was a slow night, you know, if it was it was a Marcus Myers walking in there with you know Matt Melton or something, like we we might have to we might have to pay for something, pay for a little something, yeah. Yeah, yeah. But it but but you know, they usually took pretty good care of it. No question.
SPEAKER_03Marcus Myers, well done. You're inducted into the Man Case Story Hall of Fame. You're it's official. Thank you. You did a great job. I appreciate it. You did a great job. And before we let you get out of here, we you know I'm a random guy. I I I I'm I I'm drawn to random things like octopus it octopi or octopuses. Octopi. I'm gonna go with octopi. Let's just go with octopus.
SPEAKER_10Let's just say octopi. Yeah,
NBA Playoffs Picks And Rivalries
SPEAKER_10I like octopi. I don't even care if it's wrong. You go with octopi.
SPEAKER_03I think women watching can relate to this, and they may have an idea. This female octopus throwing rocks at a male octopus to fend off his uninvited advances. Uh, this is pretty amazing. And tell me afterwards, do you think this is AI or legit?
SPEAKER_01Female octopuses are being observed throwing objects at males who refuse to leave them alone.
SPEAKER_08Now, that looks like my wife after a night of drinking. I would say it's AI, but that's a real life situation, though.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, I was gonna say it it it seems like AI, but it also correlates really well. Like Stevie's point, like you know, I I think sometimes they just they don't want to have nothing to do with you. So if they had a rock, they would throw it. So, you know.
SPEAKER_03And all women, you know, if there are rocks near you, that sometimes that's the only solution.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, yeah. You gotta, you know, you gotta pick and choose your battles, you know. My my lady, she uh she has a little feisty side to her, and and so if I if I'm gonna encroach you know some territory that that could be dicey for me, I I try to make sure that you know there's not objects nearby. So you have to dodge it. Yeah, yeah, you don't want to have to, but you know, if so, you know, yeah, man. So I I guess the female octopus uh you know said she's gonna take matters in her own hands, in her in her own tentacles. Her tentacles, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Well, I did a little internet research, and this actually happens. Octopi will pick can pick up rocks and throw them. Wow.
SPEAKER_08Oh wow.
SPEAKER_03Okay, so it's a real thing. It's a real thing. I I have much respect for that female octopus. I just love saying it. It's been it's been a joy of mine to be able to, I couldn't wait to say it. Marcus, much love. We gotta do this again, and be sure to follow him on Instagram unless unless he doesn't want you to follow him.
SPEAKER_10Um, feel free to feel free. Not a whole lot going on, you know. I just it's it's uh you're gonna get some faith posts out of me, some some Texas sports stuff, and some food every now and then. That's about it.
SPEAKER_03That's that's the simplicity of my life right there. I like that. Hey, and follow him on all Texas football. Uh, what times, what days are you can people see you?
SPEAKER_10Uh I usually do the morning spot on Mondays. Uh Around 8:15 or so, 8:20. I usually go on for about 10-15 minutes. Sometimes I hang around a little longer, depending on the topic. Uh, in the off season, right now, on Wednesday evenings, uh, I go on with Jeff Howe at 7 p.m. And then during the season, um, not sure this past season I did Thursday nights uh with uh with Rod B and Coach Shipley. So we'll see if we keep kind of the same deal once we get back into the season. But we're about to enter the dog days of summer, gentlemen. So this is this is you know, we got we got a little bit of spring ball left, and then you know, we got to find stuff to talk about, but uh we'll be around SEC Media Days of July, and that's a long time for now.
SPEAKER_03Let's not rush life between now. We got some living to do, yeah. You go, and we got to find more time for Marcus Myers. Man, we appreciate you, my brother. Absolutely appreciate you guys. Thanks for having me. Hey, you have a good rest of your week, and uh we'll we'll we any type of octopus content you can come up with, send it our way. We'll do. Much love, Marcus Myers. Uh, on the other side of this break, Stevie and I will wrap it up. Not before you get to see him be the star in a hardgrove roofing ad.
SPEAKER_06Here at Hardgrove Roofing, uh, we try to think outside the box to kind of get the creative juices flowing. So I brought in my friend Stevie Lee, former defensive tackle for the Texas Longhorns. Um, he's gonna help the team strategize, really motivate them, light of fire.
SPEAKER_09This guy's gonna block down, this guy's gonna block down. You put your butt into the guard, and that way, my mic linebacker gets free to do what?
SPEAKER_06Not only are they gonna learn a thing or two, but they're gonna also leave with a great attitude and a bunch of smiles on their faces.
SPEAKER_01I'm sorry, what does this have to do with roofing? Exactly. Get out. Right now.
SPEAKER_09I said get out.
SPEAKER_06For me, that's what it's all about is just having fun, making our employees have a great time. Hard growth roofing. Know who's on your roof.
SPEAKER_05Austin's heat is hard on AT systems, and they break down at the worst possible times. Most AT failures we see could have been prevented with a system tune-up. So if you're worried your old AC won't make it through summer, get ahead of the problem. And honest, our professional AC tune-up is only $99. It comes back by our no-breakdown guarantee. Only $99 so your system works better and lasts longer. For AC and plumbing repair, you can trust. Call on it.
SPEAKER_02I just went to my last one, and it might be some of the worst shit you ever been through. There's two things I can promise you. One of two things. Either uh that's the biggest gathering of people going to hell for lying and cheating, or uh, someone needs to whip the absolute shit out of their math teachers because they can't count past the point of five. Dude hit his ball 12 times. What'd you get on that hole? Five. But you didn't get a five. You can't count. Meanwhile, there's a kid over there trying to clean out his last can of uh of Copenhagen, and then he's opening his new can with a uh a tea, and then there's another kid over there about hole three. One of them uh, you know, them shooters of uh of uh firebottom fell out of his bag, like he done had enough of this shit. He went to drinking, didn't want to say I got a five. Bitch, you had uh you had 42 over, and we got three holes left. Tell me you got a five. Then the parents are like, oh, he shot really well. No, he didn't he just can't count
Texas Football Nights At The Drink
SPEAKER_02past five.
SPEAKER_03That is a good follow uh on Instagram, oh yeah, no, uh TikTok. There's so many platforms, Stevie. Um he's uh owns a cattle ranch and the Texas Panhandle. He was talking about how he hates high school golf. I think he has a kid and he is absolutely hilarious and comical. But you know, hey, that interview, Marcus Myers. Why do we wait so long?
SPEAKER_08I don't know, man. I told you he he he got a lot to say. Good deal.
SPEAKER_03A lot of good things to say, and he he edits himself very well when it comes to man cave stories. Really proud of him. Uh I I think we could all learn from Marcus Myers.
SPEAKER_08No question.
SPEAKER_09Hey Ben, tell me something good.
SPEAKER_03Stevie Lee, let's wrap things up. Great episode 517. A lot of energy, a lot of stories, a lot of good stuff, just things that the masses can benefit from. Tell me something good, my brother.
SPEAKER_08I'm gonna keep it real quick, man. We're getting down to the uh the dog days. Well, gonna be the dog days of summer. We said it earlier in the in the broadcast. Um, we're getting to summertime. Uh, my kid is getting ready for star testing. MA is out getting ready for star testing. That tells you it's about to be the end of the year, start of summer. NBA uh playoffs is about to start, which is gonna be fun. We're in summer now, y'all. So enjoy it, enjoy your city, enjoy Austin. Wherever you are, if you're in Houston, enjoy it, enjoy the outdoors in Dallas, enjoy the outdoors in the panhandle, enjoy it, man. Um, it's gonna get real hot. So acclimate yourself, drink a lot of water. Um, that's something good for me. Is my babies will be home uh with us, and um, we're gonna enjoy this time this together this summer, man. So uh you you enjoy it too. Um that's something good for me, man.
SPEAKER_03Well, I and I love that, man. There's a lot. This is the best time of year as far as weather-wise,
ALS Fundraiser And Final Good News
SPEAKER_03and I'll tell you something good. Um, a couple of boards I'm a part of, and this is one of them. We we've seen loved ones uh and friends, have friends who battle ALS. It's nasty. I challenge you to go to ALS.org front slash underblue skies. That's Bob Baloo, the sports director at CBS Austin, KI, whatever you want to call it. Um, I've been on the board with him for this for probably seven years, and we have raised over 1.2 million or I think 1.2 million dollars for uh ALS research, under Baloo Skies golf event and party on Friday, May 8th. The golf events will be at Forest Creek in Round Rock, the party at Braz's Hall in downtown Austin. Get a foresome, put it together, sponsor a table. We're still accepting those. Um, and if you want to just donate maybe a live auction item, give me a shout at and DM me. That sounded that sounded pretty cool. Just DM me. Hit me slide into my DMs uh at Sean C underscore ATX or just message me, DM me on uh stories inside the man cake podcast Instagram page. What this benefits and the stories that have come out of it is phenomenal. We got quite a lineup and the wife of a um ALS death, but he lived very intentionally and gave to this organization up until his last day. Uh, it's gonna be tremendous. We have a uh great band for you. That is something great because we're gonna find a way to decrease how this affects us. We're gonna find a way, and the only way to do it is if we all come together and benefit and fund that research. Stevie Lee, much love and much love to the pride of Fulgerville Conley High School. That being the Marcus Meyer Myers, national champion for life, and to the city of Shreveport, Louisiana, the home of Hargrove Roofing, the home of the great Stevie Lee, and to my college alma mater town, Nackyochas, Texas, uh, the paradise in the pines in my beautiful hometown, Austin, Texas. And thank you for all of you who are listening, watching. Everybody, be
