Welcome to God's Toolbox the Bible. Today's topic is identity. Yes, identity. Who you are, whose you are. In the book of Numbers, the Lord told Moses and Aaron to bless the Israelites. Say to them, The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face to shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace. And then the verse says something powerful regarding the people's identity. It says so they will put my name on the Israelites and I will bless them. God will give us his name. Our name identifies us. It tells us and others who we are and whose family we belong to. It tells us who our Father is. The Lord's prayer makes that plain to us. We begin by first of all identifying who we belong to our Father, our Father, which art in heaven. God belongs to us and we belong to Him. That's who we are. Many times others try to name us or label us, and those labels can be limiting. Disabled, retarded, challenged, second class, and so many other labels are out there that by design they put us in a box. Hold us into an identity that may not be who God created us to be. God is our creator. He is the one who gives us our identity, who says who we are. And in Psalm one hundred thirty nine it says we are wonderfully and fearfully made. Romans eight and seventeen says we are heirs with Christ. And Revelation twenty two three and four says on that day his servants shall serve him. They shall see his face and his name shall be on their foreheads. We are marked and sealed by our Savior Jesus the Christ, and if we are to be true to our identity in him, then we must shrug off those other labels, refuse to allow society, our culture, our enemies, and even our family to identify us. Listen to God first. When I felt God calling me into the ministry, I knew that I had to listen to him alone. If I planned to answer the call, I knew my many limitations. I'm a female with a soft voice. I'm shy, which means I have a tendency to not be able to speak in front of large crowds. I knew all this, and as others might have rehearsed them to me, as they surely probably would have, fear would overtake me. But I fortunately did my struggling with God alone. I talked directly to him, pled my case before him, cried in his presence, begged him not to assign me this task, but in the end he won. My identity as his servant was sealed, and no one could convince me otherwise despite their doubts and their misgivings. I answered God's call, and he sealed my identity. Are you going through an identity crisis? Not sure who you are, what you're capable of? How you even go about being the person you're supposed to be? Let me invite you to talk to the one with all the answers. Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and let God seal your identity as his child and heir to the throne. Don't wait. Do it right now. God bless you. Join us next week for another edition of God's Toolbox, the Bible.
