Welcome to God's Toolbox The Bible. Today's message is procrastination. I'm sure you've heard that old saying procrastination is the thief of time. What an accurate portrayal, because procrastination simply means to put off, to abstain from doing something now with the goal of doing it sometime in the future. But the hard truth, the reality is the future is not ours. We don't have a say as to what happens and when it happens. We must rely on God's timing. So today I want to encourage you to do whatever it is that the Holy Spirit is nudging you about, waking you up at night about, or keeping you awake. Make that first step towards that goal, and perhaps you will see that the first step was the hardest and the others simply line up. The Bible links procrastination to negative characteristics, such as laziness, slothfulness, and even sin. James four and seventeen says that to him who knoweth to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin. Time is both uncertain and fleeting. Life is short. So whatever it is, do it now. If not, you could face poverty or scarcity, hindered growth and productivity, severe consequences, or it's sadly missed opportunity. Consider the parable of the ten virgins in Matthew twenty five verses one through thirteen. Five of the virgins who took their lamps to meet the bridegroom were wise, and the other five were foolish. The parable says that the bridegroom was delayed, and so even though they all slumbered and slept, the wise virgins had taken extra oil for their lamps. When the midnight cry came that the bridegroom was coming, the foolish virgins had no oil to relight their lamps. They tried to get some from the wise virgins, but were told no, we don't have enough for you. Go and buy more oil. While the five foolish virgins were gone to purchase more oil for their lamps, the bridegroom came. Those who were there were accepted. They went into the wedding, and the door was shut. When the others came it was too late for them. This story highlights how small action steps lead to big outcomes. It highlights the potential for disaster and future loss, and above and beyond the simple realities of everyday loss. It highlights the potential for the lost souls of those who put off their need for salvation today to another time that might never come. Isaiah forty and eight says the grass withers and the flower fades. James says our life is only a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. So my friends, don't put it off. Don't procrastinate. Do it today. Do it now, especially if it is accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior. God bless you. Join us next week for another edition of God's Toolbox, the Bible.
