SPEAKER_02

From the historic Loreto Abbey Chapel. With the kind cooperation of the Toronto Catholic District School Board, the National Catholic Broadcasting Council presents the Daily TV Mass.

SPEAKER_07

Welcome to the celebration of the Daily TV Mass. I'm Father Ernie DeCicho. The televising of this Mass is made possible by the contributions from our donors. The first is an anonymous donor offering the Mass for Shirley on the occasion of her upcoming birthday. In remembrance of deceased friends and family, may their souls rest in peace, for the intentions of the family, in thanksgiving for all blessings received, and for the Daily TV Mass and the staff and volunteers who make this ministry possible for our community. The second is Valerie from Calgary, Alberta, for her family, for their health, healing, and recovering with Thanksgiving. The third is in honor of all those in our Daily TV Mass community who connect to us through our YouTube channel for healing and hope to all our viewers in Canada, the United States, and around the world. Our thanks to all our donors for the gift of this Mass. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. The Lord be with you.

SPEAKER_05

And with your spirit.

SPEAKER_07

Let's also ask the Lord for strength and mercy and peace. You were sent to heal the contrite of heart. Lord have mercy.

SPEAKER_02

Oh Lord, have mercy.

SPEAKER_07

You came to call sinners. Christ have mercy. You are seated at the right hand of the Father to intercede for us. Lord, have mercy.

SPEAKER_03

Oh Lord, have mercy.

SPEAKER_07

May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life. Let us pray. May the working of your mercy, O Lord, we pray, direct our hearts aright. For without your grace, we cannot find favor in your sight. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.

unknown

Amen.

A reading from the book of the prophet, Jeremiah. Jeremiah cried out in anguish. Then you showed me their evil deeds. But I was like a gentle lamb led to the slaughter. And I did not know it was against me that they devised a scheme saying, Let us destroy the tree with its fruit. Let us cut him off from the land of the living so that his name will no longer be remembered. But you, O Lord of hosts, who judge righteously, who try the heart and the mind, let me see your retribution upon them. For to you I have committed my cause. The word of the Lord.

SPEAKER_03

You who test the minds and hearts, O righteous God, Lord my God, I take shelter in you. Blessed are they who have kept the word with a generous heart and heal the harvest through perseverance. Praise to you, Lord, King of Eternal Glory.

SPEAKER_07

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John. When the people heard his words, some in the crowd said, This is really the prophet. Others said, This is the Messiah. But some asked, Surely the Messiah does not come from Galilee, does he? Has not the scripture said that the Messiah is descended from David and comes from Bethlehem, the village where David lived? So there was a division in the crowd because of him. Some of them wanted to arrest him, but no one laid hands on him. Then the temple police went back to the chief priests and Pharisees who asked them, Why did you not arrest him? The police answered, Never has anyone spoken like this. Then the Pharisees replied, Surely you have not been deceived too, have you? Has any one of the authorities or of the Pharisees believed in him? But this crowd, which does not know the law, they are accursed. Nicodemus, who had gone to Jesus before and who was one of them, asked, Our law does not judge people without first giving them a hearing to find out what they are doing, does it? They replied, Surely you are not also from Galilee, are you? Search and you will see that no prophet is to arise from Galilee. The gospel of the Lord. Time and again the authorities, the scribes, the Pharisees, the high priests find reasons not to believe in Jesus, not to accept Jesus. Today's reason is he's from Galilee. What does Galilee produce? Certainly not prophets, certainly not a Messiah. They had closed their hearts. They couldn't even give Jesus a chance. Of course, they challenged him because in their eyes he was breaking the Sabbath, and that got him in trouble too. And they don't just judge Jesus, but they judge all the others who are believing in Jesus. They accuse the police, they accuse Nicodemus. They say these funny things. Surely you've not been deceived too, have you? Surely you're not also from Galilee, are you? And interestingly enough, they don't respond. Reminds me of Peter. Remember on Holy Thursday night? How when people challenged Peter about being a follower of Jesus, he says, I do not know the man. Nobody wants to be associated with him. It does take courage to stand up. It takes a lot of courage to say, I believe. A few nights ago I decided to watch on TV a movie that came out about 10 years ago called Silence. It's based on a book that I actually read over 40 years ago by Shusaku Endo. And it recounts some of the story of the Japanese martyrs. They had courage, as martyrs did in so many other countries. Korea, Vietnam, all over the world. They believed. And they didn't deny it. Even at the cost of their life. Do we have that courage to stand up and be counted? To say, yes, I'm one of them. We're not going to be nailed to crosses. And yet, people will make fun of us. They'll put us down. Has anybody ever come to you and said, you're not still going to church, are you? You don't believe that mumbo jumbo? After all the messiness that's even happened all over the world with the church. People will raise all sorts of stuff. Yes, we know there's been a clergy sex abuse scandal. We know the story of residential schools. Terrible things that have happened for 2,000 years. Crusades, inquisitions. We still believe. Because we still know that Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah, the Son of God. And what Jesus has left us, by the way, is the church. He didn't write the New Testament himself. He gave us the church, that community of believers. And we should not be ashamed to be seen walking in to attend a mass, to hear God's word and receive the sacraments. The police were challenged. Nicodemus was challenged. And maybe they were afraid of what the consequences might be if they said, Yes, I believe. Yes, I'm one of them. We should take courage from the example of so many brave men, women, even children, who were willing to give up their whole life out of love for Christ. I don't think too many of us are going to die as martyrs. But yes, people will laugh at us, scorn us, put us down simply for wearing a crucifix around our chain. Or having a rosary hanging from our rearview mirror. We should be proud of being followers of Jesus Christ. We don't deny that the church is messy sometimes. It's the truth. But still, it's Christ's gift to all of us. And by being part of that community, we're better people. Because we belong to that family, a family of faith. A family that supports us in our own times of trial. A family that shares our belief. A family that practices so much love and does so much good out there in the community and around the world. So stand up and be counted. Don't be afraid. When people challenge you and make fun of you and say you're not one of those, you just say, Yes, I am. And I'm proud of it. And if it comes to it, hopefully like the martyrs, I'll give my whole life for it. And now let's offer our prayers to the Lord our God. For all those in our daily TV Mass Prayer Intentions book, we pray to the Lord. This month's community prayer is for fathers, grandfathers, and protectors, that they may lead with wisdom and humility, inspired by the quiet faith of Saint Joseph. We pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer. For peace in our troubled world, for an end to war and violence, for an end to hatred and division, we pray to the Lord.

SPEAKER_05

Lord, hear our prayer.

SPEAKER_07

For all those who are persecuted for their faith, including ourselves at times, that we will always be faithful to our Savior Jesus Christ. We pray. Lord, hear our prayers. For all the sick and suffering, for those in hospitals and nursing homes, for all those in need of God's healing and mercy, we pray to the Lord.

SPEAKER_05

Lord, hear our prayer.

SPEAKER_07

Loving God, we ask you to hear all of our prayers and answer us with your mercy and with your love through Christ our Lord. Blessed are you, Lord God, of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you. Fruit of the earth and work of human hands, it will become for us the bread of life. Fruit of the vine and work of human hands, it will become our spiritual drink.

SPEAKER_01

For the praise and glory of Jesus' name, for our good and forget of all this to the church.

SPEAKER_07

Be pleased, O Lord, we pray, with these oblations you receive from our hands. And even when our wills are defiant, constrain them mercifully to turn to you through Christ our Lord. The Lord be with you. Lift up your hearts. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. For you have given your children a sacred time for the renewing and purifying of their hearts, that freed from disordered affections, they may so deal with the things of this passing world as to hold rather to the things that eternally endure. And so with all the angels and saints we praise you, as without end, we acclaim.

SPEAKER_03

Holy holy Lord, God of heaven and earth are full of your glory. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hind.

SPEAKER_07

You are indeed holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness. Make holy, therefore, these gifts we pray, by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall, so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion, he took bread and giving thanks broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this all of you, and eat of it, for this is my body which will be given up for you. In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice, and once more giving thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and drink from it. For this is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in memory of me. Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection, we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation. Giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of Christ, we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit. Remember, Lord, your church spread throughout the world, and bring her to the fullness of charity, together with Leo, our Pope, and Francis, our bishop, and all the clergy. Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection, and all who have died in your mercy. Welcome them into the light of your face. Have mercy on us all, we pray, that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with Blessed Joseph, her spouse, with the blessed apostles and glorious martyrs, and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages, we may merit to be co-heirs to eternal life and may praise and glorify you through your Son Jesus Christ.

SPEAKER_06

Through him and with him and in him, oh God Almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours forever and ever. Amen.

SPEAKER_07

Let's join together in prayer using the words that our Savior Jesus Christ has given us. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil. Graciously grant peace in our days, that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your apostles, peace I leave you, my peace I give you. Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will, who live and reign forever and ever. The peace of the Lord be with you always. And with the Holy Spirit. Let us offer each other the sign of peace.

SPEAKER_03

Have mercy on God you take away the sins of the world. Have mercy on God you take away the sins of the world.

SPEAKER_07

Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.

SPEAKER_01

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in this holy sacrament of the altar. I love you above all things, and I passionately desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come spiritually into my soul, so that I may unite myself wholly to you now and forever. Amen.

SPEAKER_07

And by their working render us fully pleasing to you through Christ our Lord.

unknown

Amen.

SPEAKER_07

The Lord be with you.

SPEAKER_04

And with your Spirit.

SPEAKER_07

May Almighty God bless you, the Father and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life.

SPEAKER_05

Thanks be to God.

SPEAKER_02

Our thanks to our donors for the gift of this month.

SPEAKER_04

We gather research of God is not with Jesus Christ.
