From the St. Ignatius Chapel at the Manresa Jesuit Spiritual Renewal Center in Pickering, Ontario. The National Catholic Broadcasting Council presents the Daily TV Mass.

SPEAKER_01

Welcome to the celebration of the Daily TV Mass. I'm Father Hank van Mijel. The televising of this Mass is made possible by the contribution from two donors. The first is the estate of Ethel McLellan in her memory and in memory of her daughters, Lorraine and Francis. The second are anonymous donors from Virginia Beach, Virginia, in support of the Daily TV Mass mission to bring Mass to everyone. Or thanks to our donors for the gift of this Mass. In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, Amen. The peace of the Lord be with you. And as we have placed ourselves before the Lord on this lady's Saturday, again recalling our own weakness, just like the Mother of God prayed for guidance during her life on earth. You were sent to heal the contrite of heart. Lord have mercy. You came to call sinners. Christ have mercy. You are seated at the right hand of the Father to intercede for us. Lord have mercy. May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life. Amen. And let us pray. Grant, O Lord, that we, your servants, may rejoice in unfailing health of mind and body, and through the glorious intercession of the Blessed Mary, ever virgin, may we be set free from present sorrow and come to enjoy eternal happiness. True, O Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever.

Amen.

A reading from the letter of Jude. Beloved brothers and sisters, you must remember the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, for they said to you, In the last time there will be scoffers indulging their own ungodly lusts. It is these worldly people, devoid of the spirit, who are causing divisions. But you, beloved, build yourselves up on your most holy faith. Pray in the Holy Spirit. Keep yourselves in the love of God. Look forward to the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. And have mercy on some who are wavering. Save others by snatching them out of the fire. And have mercy on still others with fear, hating even the tunic defiled by their bodies. Now to him who is able to keep you from falling and to make you stand without blemish in the presence of his glory with rejoicing, to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, power, and authority before all time and now and forever. Amen. The word of the Lord.

SPEAKER_03

Oh God, you are my God. I seek you. My soul thirsts for you. My flesh faints for you. As in a dry and weary land where there is no water. My soul is thirsting for you. Oh Lord my God. So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary. Beholding your power and glory. Because your steadfast love is better than life. My lips will praise you. My soul is thirsting for you. Oh Lord my God. So I will bless you as long as I live. I will lift up my hands and call on your name. My soul is satisfied as with three feast. And my mouth praises you with joyful lips. My soul is thirsting for you. Oh Lord, my God. And may the fullness of his message live within you. Hallelujah.

The Lord be with you. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark. Jesus and the disciples came to Jerusalem as he was walking in the temple. The chief priest, the scribes, and the elders came to Jesus and said, By what authority are you doing these things? Who gave you this authority to do them? Jesus said to them, I will ask you one question, answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. Did John the Baptist did sorry, did the baptism of John come from heaven, or was it from human origin? Answer me. They argued with one another. If we say from heaven, he will say, Why then did you not believe him? But shall we say of human origin, they are afraid of the crowds, for all regarded John as a true prophet. So they answered Jesus, we don't know. And Jesus said to them, Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things. The gospel of the Lord. And by what authority are you doing these things? But it is actually also a valid question. Jesus, of course, knows what they're up to, and they are trying to get rid of Jesus and trying to trick him in questions. But on the other hand, there to come in defense of the authorities, they also had to, it's their job to make sure that there's no false prophets, so to speak, and there's always plenty of them. But Jesus works through that. But there's a difference between uh so there has to be authority. If Jesus came today and was preaching in the church, even G I'm I'm convinced that Jesus also will be put down and say, hey, stop, you don't have any authority. This might sound really strange in our comfortable seats here, but but he would, because he would not have any credentials. And in Jewish uh in the in the Jewish religion, in in the the teacher would there was a public ceremony and the teacher would lay on his hands on a student and would give him authority. And actually, uh Saul, who became Saint Paul, would have had received that laying on of the hands and received authority. And even today, this is still in our church. I was ordained at one point and a bishop laid his hands on me and gave me authority. After quite an investigation, of course, if I met the standards, the credentials, that I have credentials. And so this goes on. But often, sometimes I hear from people saying the church is not with the program, they're not welcoming at all. But it's not that simple because the church always is a little bit behind. When a saint is canonized, the church just confirms that this person was literally from God. But there's two different ways. There's this revealed theology. The revealed theology comes from scripture basically, and it has to fit scripture. But then there's natural theology, revealed theology. And actually, today we celebrate Mary, the mother of God. It's revealed theology. Mary revealed herself through history, and we've had so many apparitions of Mary. And as always, when there's an apparition, the church also has to confirm and that this is real. And that takes time. We just can see, we might remember the controversies about our Lady of Lourdes, that it was initially shut down. And but it goes down right to history: that if there's a real revelation, that the church always has to put a stop to it and first has to verify that things are good. And now as I was praying with this, I just two examples. Padre Pio, so well known for his mystical experiences, he had a stigmata very early on, and he was for 15 years, he was not allowed to say a public mass or hear confession or give even blessings. He was not even allowed to speak with his spiritual director, Father Benedetto. He was literally shut down because the church had to figure out what is going here. Is this stigmata real? What is going on here? And of course, there's there's an internal debate within the church just to make sure that this is real and that there's no fraud here. Because history is full of fraud, and the church has to make sure that this happens. Sister Faustina, we uh Sister Faustina, from most people don't really know Sister Faustina, the divine mercy icon we find in so many churches. Jesus, I trust in you with the saying under it, Sister Faustina, she was really initially rejected by the church. She was strange and they ridiculed her. Her own sisters in the cloister ridiculed her and made fun of her. Is this real? And when she came when the psychological testing came back, it it was clear to Father Sespacle that this is of God. And so he was convinced. But then the real the process starts also to the greater church. And as we know, uh in 1935 there was the first celebration of Divine Mercy Sunday in Poland, but or in Lithuania actually. But uh in after the death of Sister Faustina, they was shut down. And uh it was shut down by Rome because there were many misunderstandings. And Father Sespoko, actually in the mid-50s, he was severely reprimanded by the Vatican for promoting Sister Frostina. But then, if it is of God, it will come true. And so, in time, we have uh or late Pope John Paul II who came in between there and got uh Sister Faustina through the process. And of course, today we celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday, but it's always the church has to confirm that this is true. And the church, the early church also, really after the death of Jesus, had to confirm that Jesus is true. And in the church there's a whole process to go to verify that someone, that this person is a servant of God, that this person is a saint. And this process really goes from servant of God to initially and then that the person is called venerable, and then beatification that there's at least one miracle assigned to this person through the intercession of this person, and finally canonization. But and sometimes it goes a little bit faster. I just mentioned uh Pope John Paul II, who really pushed Sister Faustina through this process. But John Paul II was quite early, he kind of went very fast through the process. Mother Teresa of Calcutta is another one who we knew she was a saint when she lived, and she went fairly quick through the process too. But usually this process can take a hundred years or more. But it is good to stay to pray with it. That when someone when there's a revelation of Christ, we have to verify that it's true because there are so many cheats around, and we just gently move forward and we just trust that God works through everything, and we cannot stop God from from stopping us from the truth. Amen. So let us bring our prayers before the Lord. We pray for all those in the Daily TV Mass Prayer Intention Book. We pray to the Lord.

Lord be our prayer.

SPEAKER_01

Throughout this month of May, our community prays to follow the example of Mary by following, offering joy, compassion, and mercy, especially to mothers, grandmothers, and all lovingly serve those in need. We pray to the Lord. With Pope Leo, we pray this month that everyone, from large producers to small consumers, be committed to avoid wasting food and to ensure that everyone has access to quality food. We pray to the Lord. On this O Lady Saturday, we pray for all prayer groups who have Mary, the mother of God, as the patron, that they will continue to be a sign of God's love in the world. We pray to the Lord. And for these prayers and the prayers in the silence of our own hearts, we lift them up to you, Lord. Amen. Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you, the fruit of the earth and work of human hands. It will become for us the bread of life. By the mystery of this water and wine, may we come to share in the divinity of Christ who humbled himself to share in our humanity. Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you, the fruit of the vine, and work of human hands. It will become our spiritual drink. Humble spirit and contrite heart may we be accepted by you, O Lord, and may our sacrifice in your sight as day be pleasing to you, Lord God. Wash me, O Lord, for my iniquities. Cleanse me of my sins. Thank you. Pray, my sisters and brothers, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, the Almighty Father.

SPEAKER_05

May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name, for our good and the good of all in the church.

SPEAKER_01

Receive, O Lord, we ask, the prayers of your people with the sacrificial offerings, that, through the intercession of Blessed Mary, the mother of your son, no petition may go unanswered, no request be made in vain, through Christ, O Lord.

SPEAKER_05

Amen.

SPEAKER_01

The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Lift up your hearts. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is truly right and just a duty and a salvation to praise your mighty deeds and the exaltation of all the saints, and especially as we celebrate the memory of the Blessed Virgin Mary, to proclaim your kindness as we echo her thankful hymn of praise. For truly, even to earth's ends, you have done great things, and extended your abundant mercy from age to age. When you looked on the lowliness of your handmaid, you gave us through her the author of our salvation, your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord. Through him, the host of angels adores your majesty and rejoices in your presence forever. May your voices we pray join with those in one chorus of exalt praise as we acclaim.

SPEAKER_03

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of hosts, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

SPEAKER_01

You are indeed holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness. Make holy therefore these gifts we pray, by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewful, so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion, he took bread and giving you thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this all of you and eat of it, for this is my body, which will be given up for you. In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice and once more giving thanks. He gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this all of you and drink from it, for this is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in memory of me. The mystery of faith.

SPEAKER_03

We proclaim your death, O Lord, and profess your resurrection until you come again.

SPEAKER_01

Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection, we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of Christ we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit. Remember, Lord, your church spread throughout the world, and bring her to the fullness of charity, together with Leo or Pope, Francis or Bishop, the Order Bishops, the clergy, and the entire people you have called your own. Remember also our sisters and brothers who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection, and all who have died in your mercy, welcome them into the light of your face. Have mercy on us all. We pray that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with Blessed Joseph, our spouse, with the Blessed Apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages, we may merit to be co-heirs to eternal life, and may praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ. Through him and with him and in him, O God Almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours for ever and ever. Amen. And at the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say, O Father, who are in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day your daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespassed against us. And lead us not to be temptation. But deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray from every evil. Graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

SPEAKER_05

For the community of all power and glory are yours and forever.

SPEAKER_01

Lord Jesus Christ, who said to the apostles, peace I leave you, my peace I give you. Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your church, and graciously grant our peace and unity in accordance with your will, who live and reign forever and ever. Amen. The peace of the Lord be with you always.

SPEAKER_05

And with your spirit.

SPEAKER_01

And let us offer each other a sign of peace.

SPEAKER_03

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world.

SPEAKER_01

Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb. Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter into my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

SPEAKER_04

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in this holy sacrament of the altar. I love you above all things, and I passionately desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come spiritually into my soul, so that I may unite myself wholly to you now and forever. Amen.

SPEAKER_01

And let us pray. As we beseech this heavenly sacrament, we beseech, O Lord, your mercy, that we who rejoice in commemorating the Blessed Virgin Mary may be imitating her, serve worldly the mystery of our redemption. Through Christ, O Lord. Amen. The Lord be with you. And may Almighty God bless you. Father, Son, Holy Spirit. Amen. Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life. Thanks before.

SPEAKER_00

Our thanks to our donors for the gift of this man.
