Fr. Francis Salasiar, CSC
From the St. Ignatius Chapel at the Manresa Jesuit Spiritual Renewal Center in Pickering, Ontario. The National Catholic Broadcasting Council presents the Sunday TV Mass.
SPEAKER_01Welcome to the celebration of the Sunday TV Mass on the solemnity of the most holy body and blood of Christ. I am Father Francis Salesiar. The televising of this Mass is made possible by the contribution from the Pogagar family from Toronto, Ontario. This Mass is offered in honor of the Pogagar and Self Seljack families. We know that this television mass brings meaning to the lives of tens of thousands of Canadians across our land and those around the world. And they join with me in thanking the Pokagar family for the gift of this Mass. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
SPEAKER_03Amen.
SPEAKER_01The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. As we come to celebrate the solemnity of the most holy body and blood of Christ, we are reminded of the importance of the Eucharist and how they nourish, how they give life, and how we are called to share this gift with others. Let us ask God's father and mercy for the moments of our failures. You were sent to heal the contrite of heart. Lord have mercy. Lord have mercy. You came to call the sinners. Christ have mercy. You are seated at the right hand of the Father to intercede for us. Lord have mercy. Lord have mercy. May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to life everlasting. Amen. Glory to God in the highest. And on earth, peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory. Lord God, Heavenly King, O God Almighty Father, Lord Jesus Christ, only begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. You take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer. You are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit in the glory of God the Father. Amen. Let us pray. O God, who in this wonderful sacrament have left us a memorial of your passion, grant as we pray, so to revere the sacred mysteries of your body and blood, that we may always experience in ourselves the fruits of your redemption, who lives and reigns with you in the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen.
SPEAKER_00A reading from the book of Deuteronomy. Moses spoke to the people. He humbled you by letting you hunger, then by feeding you with manna, with which neither you nor your ancestors were acquainted, in order to make you understand that man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. Do not exalt yourself, forgetting the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, who led you through the great and terrible wilderness, an arid wasteland with poisonous snakes and scorpions. He made water flow for you from flint rock and fed you in the wilderness with manna that your ancestors did not know, to humble you and to test you, and in the end to do you good. The word of the Lord.
SPEAKER_03Thanks be to God.
SPEAKER_05Praise the Lord Jerusalem. Praise the Lord O Jerusalem. Pra God O Zion for He strengthens the bars of your gates. He blesses your children within you. Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord Jerusalem. He grants peace within your borders. He fills you with a finest of wheat. He sends out his command to the earth. His word runs swiftly. His statutes and ordinances to Israel. He has not dealt thus with any other nation. They do not know his ordinance.
SPEAKER_00A reading from the first letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians. Brothers and sisters, the cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a sharing in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a sharing in the body of Christ? Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we partake of the one bread. The word of the Lord.
SPEAKER_05Whoever eats of this bread will live forever.
SPEAKER_01The Lord be with you.
SPEAKER_03And with your spirit.
SPEAKER_01The people then disputed among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? So Jesus said to them, Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats this flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in them. Just as the living father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever eats me will live because of me. This is a bread that came down from heaven, not like that which your ancestors ate and they died. But the one who eats this bread will live forever. Jesus said these things while he was teaching in the synagogue at Capernaum. The gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. A man once told his friend, I don't get much out of Mass anymore. His friend replied, Well, what do you put into it? The man passed, giving a look of confused, and responded, put into it. I thought mass was something I was supposed to get. That symbol exchange reveals a common misunderstanding. Many people come to the Eucharist thinking only about what they hope to receive: comfort, peace, inspiration, or to be entertained. But the Eucharist is not merely something we get, it's something we enter into. It's an encounter meant to transform us. Today, on the feast of the most holy body and blood of Christ. The church invites us to remember why we come to Mass at all. Because God draws near to us in a real, tangible, and astonishing way. In the gospel, Jesus has just fed 5,000 people of the five loves. The crowd follows him, hoping for more free bread. But Jesus refuses to be reduced to a dispenser of miracles or a wending mission. Instead, he leads them deeper. He tells them, I am the living bread that came down from heaven, and that bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh. The crowd is shocked. How can this man give us his flesh to eat? They mutter. It sounds like a cannibalism. It sounds primitive. It sounds like a meal you would rather skip. But Jesus does not soften his words. He intensifies them. Unless you eat this flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Again, he's not speaking in metaphors. He's revealing the radical way God chooses to be with us. Not from a distance, not from through ideas alone, but by giving his very self. This is the heart of our faith. The Last Supper, when Jesus says, This is my body, he's not offering a symbol or a memory. He's offering himself. He's saying, Take, eat. This is me, not a symbol of me. Not a memory of me. But this is my body. This is my blood. And yet, over time, even this extraordinary gift can begin to feel ordinary. We come forward, receive, and return to our seeds almost automatically. As if this is something ordinary evens or weaken life. Today's feast calls us to wake up again. When you come forward for communion, you are not receiving a thing, you are receiving a person. The same Jesus who healed the sick, forgave the sinners, calmed storms, and rose from the dead is the one placed in your hands. And he comes not because we are worthy, but because we are hungry and he wants to feed us. Look at our world. We scroll endlessly for affirmation, consume entertainment that leaves us empty, which is success, pleasure, or distraction. Yet, beneath it all, we remain restless and hungry. Jesus alone offers the food that satisfies whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him. The Eucharist is about abiding, about a relationship that continues long after Mass ends. If you truly believe this, it changes us.

SPEAKER_01Augustine said, become what you receive. Receiving the body of Christ means we begin to carry Christ into our homes, our workplaces, our conversations. Receiving the body of Christ means becoming his presence in the world, feeding the hungry, comforting the lonely, forgiving those who hurt us, and bringing compassion to where there is suffering. So, dear brothers and sisters, the next time you approach the altar, pass. Remember who it is you are receiving, what it is you are receiving. Let that moment be real. Because the same Jesus who spoke those challenging words in John's gospel is the one who comes to you today. Not as an idea, not as a memory, but as a living presence. And that changes everything. So when you hear the words, the body of Christ, the blood of Christ, don't let them pass by as a routine, as regular events of my day. Recognize the extraordinary gift being placed into your hands and into your life. Receive Him. Let Him change you. And then you can go out and live what you have received. Let us proclaim our faith. I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He ascended into hell. On the third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen. Dear brothers and sisters, as Jesus offers us through the Word, through the Eucharist, we come bringing our needs before Him, knowing and trusting in His power. We pray for ourselves, for wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. Then we can need to experience the real goodness that we receive through the Eucharist. We pray to the Lord.
SPEAKER_00Lord, hear our prayer.
SPEAKER_01We pray for our family, members, and friends, particularly those who have fallen away from faith, for whom the Eucharist has become a routine thing. They come so that they can receive something rather than to enter into the mystery. For them, for their change of heart, we pray to the Lord. For all those in our daily TV Mass Prayer Intentions book, we pray to the Lord.
SPEAKER_03Lord, hear our prayer.
SPEAKER_01During this month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, let us pray for healing in families. That Christ's mercy may renew our hearts and restore our relationships. We pray to the Lord. We take a moment of silence to bring to God our own individual needs and prayers. We pray to the Lord.
SPEAKER_03Lord, hear our prayer.
SPEAKER_01Heavenly Father, we bring before you all these prayers, knowing and trusting that you always listen to us, your children, through Christ our Lord. Sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name. For a good of all his holy church. Grant your church, O Lord, we pray the gifts of unity and peace, whose signs are to be seen in mystery in the offerings we here present. Through Christ our Lord. The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Lift up your hearts. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right and just truly right and just our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere, to give you thanks, Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God. For at the Last Supper with His apostles, establishing for the ages to come the saving memorial of the cross, he offered himself to you as the unblemished Lamb, the acceptable gift of perfect praise. Nourishing your faithful by this sacred mystery, you make them holy, so that the human race bounded by one world may be enlightened by one faith and united by one bond of charity. And so we approach the table of His wondrous sacrament, so that bathed in the sweetness of your grace, we may pass over to the heavenly realities here foreshadowed. Therefore, all creatures of heaven and earth sing a new song in adoration, and we, with all the host of angels, cry out, and without end we acclaim.
SPEAKER_05Holy, holy, holy lord God of host, heaven and earth your glory. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the You are indeed holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness.
SPEAKER_01Make holy therefore these gifts we pray, by sending down your spirit upon them like the dew fall, so they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. At the time he was betrayed and underwhelmingly into his passion, he took bread, giving thanks, broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and eat of it, for this is my body, which will be given up for you. In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the church. Charles once more giving thanks. He gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and drink from it. For this is a Charles of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in memory of me. The mystery of faith.
SPEAKER_05We proclaim your death, O Lord, and profess your resurrection until you come again.
SPEAKER_01Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection, we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly, we pray that partaking of the body and blood of Christ, we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit. Remember, Lord, your church spread throughout the world, and bring her to the fullness of charity, together with Leo our Pope, Francis our Bishop, and all the clergy. Remember also, brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection, and all who have died in your mercy. Welcome them into the light of your face. Have mercy on us all. We pray that with the blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with the Blessed Joseph, her spouse, with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages, we may merit to be co-heirs to eternal life and may praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ. Through Him and with Him and in Him. O God Almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours forever and ever. Amen. At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say, Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray from every evil. Graciously grant peace in our days, that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power, the glory of yours, now and forever. Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your apostles, peace I leave you, my peace I give you. Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will, who live and reign forever and ever.
SPEAKER_03Amen.
SPEAKER_01The peace of the Lord be with you always. And with your spirit. Let us offer each other the sign of peace.
SPEAKER_05Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world.
SPEAKER_01Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb. Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only you say the word, and my soul shall be healed.
SPEAKER_02Please join me now in this act of spiritual communion. My Jesus, I believe that you are present in this holy sacrament of the altar. I love you above all things, and I passionately desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come spiritually into my soul, so that I may unite myself wholly to you now and forever. Amen.
SPEAKER_01Grant, O Lord, we pray that we may delight for all eternity in that share in your divine life, which is foreshadowed in the present age by our reception of your precious body and blood, who live and reign forever and ever.
SPEAKER_03Amen.
SPEAKER_01The Lord be with you.
SPEAKER_03And with your spirit.
SPEAKER_01May Almighty God bless you, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen. Go in peace to love and serve one another. Thanks be to God.
SPEAKER_02Our thanks to our donors for the gift of this month.
