From the St. Ignatius Chapel at the Manresa Jesuit Spiritual Renewal Center in Pickering, Ontario. The National Catholic Broadcasting Council presents the Daily TV Mass.

SPEAKER_02

Welcome to the celebration of the Daily TV Mass. I am Father Tomasz Skibinsky. The televising of this Mass is made possible by the contributions from two donors. The first is Judah Betty from Nigeria, in thanksgiving to God for the numerous blessings the family has received, especially for their seamless settlement in Canada and for God's blessing on the family both living and deceased. For the poor, the sick, the homeless, and those experiencing hardship throughout the world. May the Lord touch the hearts of those who can help so that they may share their gifts to those in need and for the holy souls in purgatory. The second is an anonymous donor from Lakeland, Florida, for her intentions and for her living and deceased family members. Our thanks to our donors for the gift of this Mass. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And with your spirit. Today we are celebrating the memorial of Saint Barnabas, Apostle, one of those who was not originally chosen by Christ, but nonetheless he was named an apostle and did a great work of evangelization. So today, through his intercession, we enter into this celebration and we ask for God's blessings upon us. And as we prepare to celebrate these sacred mysteries, let us first of all ask the Lord for pardon and mercy, so that we may celebrate this Mass with pure hearts. I confess to Almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault. Therefore I ask Blessed Mary of a Virgin, all the angels and saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.

SPEAKER_04

Amen.

SPEAKER_02

Lord have mercy. Christ have mercy. Lord have mercy. Let us pray. O God, who decreed that Saint Barnabas, a man filled with faith and the Holy Spirit, should be set apart to convert the nations. Grant that the gospel of Christ, which he strenuously preached, may be faithfully proclaimed by word and by deed. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen.

A reading from the Acts of the Apostles. At Antioch, a great number of the Hellenists became believers and turned to the Lord. News of this came to the ears of the Church in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch. When he came and saw the grace of God, he rejoiced, and he exhorted them all to remain faithful to the Lord with steadfast devotion. For Barnabas was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith, and a great many people were brought to the Lord. Then Barnabas went to Tarshish to look for Paul, for Saul, and when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. Now in the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers, Barnabas, Simeon, who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Menae, a member of the court of Herod the ruler, and Saul. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, Set apart from me Barnabas and Saul, for the work to which I have called them. Then after fasting and praying, they laid their hands on them and sent them off. The word of the Lord.

His right hand and his holy arm has won him victory. The Lord has revealed to the nations his saving path. The Lord has made known his victory. He has revealed his vindication in the sight of the nations. He has remembered his dead for love and faithfulness to the house of Israel. The Lord has revealed to the nations his saving pathelujah, Aleluya, Hallelujah, Aleluya, Aleluya. Go and teach all my people, my gospel, I am with you always until the end of the world.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew. Jesus sent the twelve out with the following instructions as you go, proclaim the good news. Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. You received without payment, give without payment. Take no gold or silver or copper in your belts, no bag for your journey or two tunics or sandals or a staff, for laborers deserve their food. Whatever town or village you enter, find out who in it is worthy and stay there until you leave. As you enter the house, greet it. If the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it, but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. The Gospel of the Lord. We are celebrating today this memorial of Saint Barnabas, the apostle, not as I mentioned at the beginning, one of the original twelve, nonetheless, just as Saint Paul, we call him an apostle, because he was chosen. He was chosen really by the Lord. It was the Lord who, as we heard, indicated to the others that he should be set apart for the work that the Lord had in mind for them. And this is important for us today because this apostolic work has been carried throughout the history of the church through the popes, through the bishops, who are the successors of the apostles. And these are also set apart by the Lord, chosen by the Lord. But in reality, brothers and sisters, all of us, we are, by our baptism, we have been elected, chosen, called, set apart to do what? To be witnesses to the work of the Lord. And what is the work of the Lord? First of all, just as, for example, Matthias, who was also chosen as one of the apostles in the place of Judas, the only criteria that was important and necessary is that they would be witnesses to the resurrection of Christ. And so all the apostles, as they go, what do they do? They preach this great, this marvelous work of the resurrection of Christ and this work of salvation that the Lord has done, calling nations, many nations to follow him. Not only those from the chosen people, from the from the among the Israelites, from among the Jewish people, but really even from among the Gentiles. And this work is being carried on, has been carried on throughout the throughout the all the centuries throughout the history of the church. And we see how important it is. Today it is the same urgency, it is the same need to go and to proclaim. And we see how the apostles move from place to place, announcing, proclaiming, giving witness, being, you know, suffering for the sake of the name of Christ. And today we see that also Barnabas, he moves from one place to another, he goes, he looks for Paul, and they go together to Antioch. And what is important is that, as we heard today in the reading, that it was there that the disciples were called Christians for the first time. That it is there that they establish a new community. And what does it mean to be a Christian is exactly to carry within us that life of Christ, to be witnesses to what the Lord has done in us as well. But the Lord sends the apostles, it was Him who was sending the apostles first. They do this because they have received a mandate to go and to proclaim and to preach the good news. And there is a very specific way of how they were supposed to do this. And today we heard this in the Gospel of Matthew that when the Lord sends them, he sends, as you go, proclaim the good news. That's the first thing. Speak, give word, encourage people, you know, give them a word of consolation, give them a word of encouragement, preach the good news. And what is the good news? That the kingdom of heaven has come near, that there is a fulfillment of the promises that the Lord has given to the people. And also, he says, he said to them, Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. These are these are these is this is the work to cure the sick. Yes, not only the physical sickness, but very often the sickness that is invisible, that is inside of us. Raise the dead. Again, not necessarily just in a physical way, but also raise those who are maybe spiritually dead, maybe those who have experienced this death of being inside of them because of their sins or of whatever circumstances. Cleanse the lepers. You know, we are we carry different types of sickness, different type of leprosy. You know, life falls apart. In a way, this is the cleansing that they are supposed to do, to clean, you know, the inside, to make us new from from from within, cast out demons. Uh the demon is the one that always speaks to us, and so cast out demons. Tell them the good news, tell them that there is a greater life, a better life, a life that can truly satisfy us. You receive without payment, give without payment. Really, what we receive in the church is uh is free. It's free. The Lord is the love of God is free. And then what is what is how are they supposed to go? With no gold, no silver, which means without money, without uh without anyways, no bag, no or two tunics, without any, we can say, um securities. Without any securities, go, go, the Lord will provide, don't be afraid, the Lord will be there, he will take care of you. You do what you have been called to do. This was the this was the the task of the of the apostles. Go and the Lord will be with you, and you will see that he is there, present, that he will manifest himself. You go and you do the work, but or you preach, and the Lord is going to do the rest for you. And so um he says, Go, go, whatever town or village you enter, first you know, say, greet the people there. Give them, give them, give them the gift of peace. The gift of peace, this peace that is so much needed also today. That's why we celebrate those feasts of the apostles, because uh, and also we celebrate the Eucharist daily, because that's how we receive peace. This peace comes through us to us through the preaching, through the sacraments that we celebrate. That's how we receive the Lord. That's how he enters into this house that he himself has chosen. So today, let us enter into this celebration, let us welcome those who are being sent to us. Maybe the Lord will send someone to you to speak today to your life. Let us welcome them and let us receive them with joy. And now we offer to the Lord our prayers and our intentions. First of all, we ask you, Lord, for the church, the call to be the sign of your presence in this world. We pray that the church may really carry out also today this work of evangelization, giving to the people the word of good news. We pray to the Lord.

Let us pray for all our intentions and for the intentions of the donors of this Mass. We pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer. Almighty Father, we ask that you may welcome these prayers that we have expressed and also those that remain within our hearts. We pray that you may fulfill them according to your will. We ask you this through Christ our Lord.

SPEAKER_05

SPEAKER_02

Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you, fruit of the earth, and work of human hands. It will become for us the bread of life. Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through goodness we have received the wine we offer you, fruit of divine and the work of human hands, it will become our spiritual drink. With humble spirit and contrite heart, may we be accepted by you, O Lord, and my sacrifice in your sight as they be pleasing to you, Lord God. Lord, wash away my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. We pray, brothers and sisters, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, the Almighty Father. Sanctify with your blessing, we pray, O Lord, the offerings presented here, so that by your grace they may set us on fire with the flame of your love by which Saint Barnabas brought the light of the gospel to the nations through Christ our Lord.

SPEAKER_05

Amen.

SPEAKER_02

The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Lift up your hearts. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is truly right and just our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord Holy Father Almighty and Eternal God. For you, eternal shepherd, do not desert your flock, but through the blessed apostles, watch over it and protect it always, so that it may be governed by those you have appointed shepherds to lead it in the name of your Son. And so with angels and archangels, with thrones and dominions, and with all the hosts and powers of heaven, we sing the hymn of your glory as without end we acclaim.

SPEAKER_07

Holy holy Lord God of hosts, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest Hosanna in the yest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord Hanna in the highest, Hanna in the You are indeed holy, O Lord, and all you have created rightly gives you praise.

SPEAKER_02

For through your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, by the power and working of the Holy Spirit, you give life to all things and make them holy, and you never cease to gather a people to yourself, so that from the rising of the Sun to its setting, a pure sacrifice may be offered to your name. Therefore, O Lord, we humbly implore you, by the same Spirit, graciously make holy these gifts we have brought to you for consecration, that they may become the body and blood of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, at whose command we celebrate these mysteries. For on the night he was betrayed, he himself took bread, and giving you thanks, he said the blessing, broke the bread, and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and eat of it, for this is my body which will be given up for you. In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice, and giving you thanks, he said the blessing and gave the chalice to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and to drink from it, for this is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins, and do this in memory of me.

SPEAKER_02

Therefore, O Lord, as we celebrate the memorial of the saving passion of your Son, His wondrous resurrection and ascension into heaven, and as we look forward to His second coming, we offer you in thanksgiving this holy and living sacrifice. Look, we pray upon the oblation of your church, and recognizing the sacrificial victim by whose death you willed to reconcile us to yourself, grant that we, who are nourished by the body and blood of your Son and filled with His Holy Spirit, may become one body, one spirit in Christ. May He make of us an eternal offering to you, so that we may obtain an inheritance with your elect, especially with the most blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with Blessed Joseph, her spouse, with your blessed apostles and glorious martyrs, with Saint Barnabas, and with all the saints, on whose constant intercession in your presence we rely for unfailing help. May this sacrifice of our reconciliation we pray, O Lord, advance the peace and salvation of all the world. Be pleased to confirm in faith and charity your pilgrim church on earth. With your servant Leo, our Pope, and Francis, our bishop, the Order of Bishops, all the clergy, and the entire people you have gained for your own. Listen graciously to the prayer of this family whom you have summoned before you. In your compassion, O merciful Father, gather to yourself all your children scattered throughout the world. To our departed brothers and sisters, and to all who are pleasing to you at their passing from this life, give kind admittance to your kingdom. There we hope to enjoy forever the fullness of your glory through Christ our Lord, through whom you bestow on the world all that is good.

SPEAKER_01

Through him and with him and in him, O God Almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours for ever and ever.

SPEAKER_02

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray from every evil. Graciously grant peace in our days, that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your apostles, peace I leave you, my peace I give you. Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will, who live and reign for ever and ever. Amen. The peace of the Lord be with you always. And in your spirit. Let us offer each other the sign of peace. Peace be with you. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb. Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

SPEAKER_03

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in this holy sacrament of the altar. I love you above all things, and I passionately desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come spiritually into my soul, so that I may unite myself wholly to you now and forever. Amen.

SPEAKER_02

Let us pray. As we receive the pledge of eternal life, we humbly implore you, Lord, that what we celebrate in sacramental signs on the memorial of the Blessed Apostle Barnabas, we may one day behold unveiled through Christ our Lord. Amen. The Lord be with you. May Almighty God bless you, the Father and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Let us go in peace.

SPEAKER_03

Our thanks to our donors for the gift of this month.
