From the St. Ignatius Chapel at the Manresa Jesuit Spiritual Renewal Center in Pickering, Ontario. The National Catholic Broadcasting Council presents the Daily TV Mass.
SPEAKER_03Welcome to the celebration of the Daily TV Mass. I'm Father Roshan Lloyd Souza. The televising of this mass is made possible by the contributions from three donors. The first are Elaine Alan Christina and Alana Jane from Ottawa, Ontario, for the complete healing of Elaine's illness, for the good health and eternal salvation of their family, and may the Lord grant his grace and guidance to Alana and Christina throughout their lives. The second is Jose Remeggio and family from Mississauga, Ontario, in loving memory of their mother Ismailita Cabignoth Remeggio, who passed away March 1st of this year. She is deeply missed by her family and friends. The third are Sam, Kathy, and Bella from the USA in memory of their deceased family members, Yubet, Cornell, Joyce, Marcus, and Peter. Our thanks to our donors for the gift of this Mass. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. The grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And with Lord's Spirit. As we thank the Lord for the gift of this beautiful day and for God's blessings, let us ask the Lord to fill us with grace and strength that we may remain faithful to Him. Let us acknowledge our sins and prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries. I confess to Almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and what I have failed to do through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault. Therefore, I ask Blessed Mary, ever virgin, all the angels and saints, and to you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life. Amen. Lord, have mercy. Christ have mercy. Lord have mercy. Let us pray. Stir up the will of your faithful, we pray, O Lord, that striving more eagerly to bring your divine work to fruitful completion, they may receive in greater measure the healing remedies your kindness bestows. Through Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen.
SPEAKER_00A reading from the second book of Kings. When the Lord was about to take Elijah up to heaven by a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal. Then Elijah said to him, Stay here, for the Lord has sent me to the Jordan. But he said, As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you. So the two of them went on. Fifty men of the company of prophets also went, and stood at some distance from them, as they both were standing by the Jordan. Then Elijah took his mantle and rolled it up and struck the water. The water was parted to one side and to the other, until the two of them crossed on dry ground. When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, Tell me what I may do for you before I am taken from you. Elisha said, Please let me inherit a double share of your spirit. He responded, you have asked a hard thing. Yet if you see me as I am being taken from you, it will be granted you. If not, it will not. As they continued walking and talking, a chariot of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them. And Elijah ascended in a whirlwind into heaven. Elisha kept watching and crying out, Father, Father, the chariots of Israel and its horsemen. But when he could no longer see him, he grasped his own clothes and tore them in two pieces. He picked up the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan. He took the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him and struck the water, saying, Where is the Lord, the God of Elijah? When he had struck the water, the water was parted to one side and to the other, and Elisha went over. The word of the Lord.
SPEAKER_04Oh how abundant is your goodness all that you have laid up for those who fear you and accomplish for those who take refuge in you in the sight of everyone. Let your heart take comfort all who hope in the Lord. In the shelter of your presents, you hide them from human ploots. You hold them safe under your shelter from contentious tasks. Let your heart take comfort all who hope in the Lord. Love the Lord all you his saints. But abundantly repays the one who acts heartily. Let your heart take comfort all who hope in the law Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah. All who love me will keep my words, and my father will love them, and we will come to them.
SPEAKER_03For then you have no reward from your Father in heaven. So whenever you give alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be praised by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your alms may be done in secret, and your father who sees in secret will reward you. And whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, so that they may be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. But whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door, and pray to your father who is in secret, and your father who sees in secret will reward you. And whenever you fast, do not look dismal like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces so as to show others that they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that your fasting may be seen not by others, but by your father who is in secret, and your father who sees in secret will reward you. The gospel of the Lord. He had practiced in a parish and participated in the charity drive where families were encouraged to donate food and clothing for the poor. Wanting appreciation, he made sure everyone saw him carrying large boxes into the church hall. He even paused near the entrance so people could notice and praise him. That evening, he overheard an elderly woman quietly placing a small bag of rice near the altar when no one was around. Curious, he later learned that she herself was struggling financially, yet she gave what little she had silently without seeking recognition. That moment stayed with him for life. He said, That day I realized that God sees not how much we give, but how we give. Today's gospel from the Gospel of Matthew speaks directly to this human tendency. Jesus warns his disciples against practicing righteousness to be seen by others. He highlights three important religious practices alms giving, prayer, and fasting. And each case, he repeats the same message. Do it in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. Jesus is not condemning good works. In fact, he expects us to give, to pray, and to fast. But he challenges our intention. Are we doing these acts to glorify God or to draw attention to ourselves? The temptation to seek praise is very real. Even in spiritual matters, we can become performers rather than disciples. This teaching finds a powerful echo in the first reading from the second book of Kings. We see the prophet Elijah nearing the end of his earthly journey. His departure is not a public spectacular designed for admiration, but a profound, almost mysterious moment of divine encounter. As he is taken up, he passes on his mantle to Elisha. Elisha does not seek glory. Instead, he humbly asks for a double portion of Elijah's spirit so that he may continue God's work. Elijah's life was not about impressing others, it was about fidelity to God. And Elisha, in receiving the mantle, understands that true greatness lies not in recognition but in responsibility. When he strikes the waters of the Jordan, they part. It is not for applause, but as a sign that God's power continues through those who remain faithful. Both readings remind us that God looks at the heart. The world often values visibility, how many people see us, applaud us, or follow us. But God values sincerity. The hidden act of kindness, the quiet prayer whispered in a lonely room, the silent sacrifice known only to God, these are the treasures of the kingdom. In our modern context, this message is especially relevant. We live in a culture where almost everything can be displayed, our achievements, our generosity, even our spirituality. It is easy to fall into the trap of performing goodness, but Jesus invites us into a deeper relationship, one that is personal and authentic. When you give, give with love, not for recognition. When you pray, speak to God as a child speaks to a loving father, not as an actor delivering lines. When you fast or make sacrifices, do so with joy, not with a gloomy face seeking sympathy. Let us return to that elderly woman in the story. She had no audience, no applause, no recognition. Yet, in the eyes of God, her small act of love was great. She lived the gospel without preaching it. Let us practice. Amen. Let us bring our prayers to our loving God. Let us pray for the church that we may spread the message of Christ and build his kingdom here on earth. We pray to the Lord. Let us pray for the world and its leaders, that they may work for unity and peace in the world. We pray to the Lord. For all those in our daily TV Mass Prayer Intentions book, we pray to the Lord. Lord hear honor. During this month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, let us pray for healing in families, that Christ's mercy may renew our hearts and restore our relationships. We pray to the Lord. We make these prayers through Christ our Lord. Amen. Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation. For through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you, fruit of the earth and work of human hands. It will become for us the bread of life. Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you, fruit of the wine and work of human hands, which will become our spiritual drink. Blessed be God forever. Accept, O Lord, the sacred offerings which at your bidding we dedicate to your name, and in order that through these gifts we may become worthy of your love, grant us unfailing obedience to your commands through Christ our Lord. The Lord be with you. Lift up your hearts. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is truly right and just our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks. Lord Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God. For just as through your beloved Son you created the human race, so also through Him with great goodness you formed it anew. And so it is right that all your creatures serve you, all the redeemed praise you, and all your saints with one heart bless you. Therefore, we too extol you with all the angels, as in joyful celebration we acclaim.
SPEAKER_04Holy, holy, holy Lord God of hosts, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
SPEAKER_03Make holy therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the dew fall, so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion. He took bread, and giving you thanks broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and eat of it, for this is my body which will be given up for you. In a similar way, when the supper was ended, he took the chalice and once more giving you thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and drink from it, for this is a chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in memory of me.
SPEAKER_02The mystery of faith.
SPEAKER_04When we eat this bright and drink this cup, we proclaim your death all you come again.
SPEAKER_03Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection, we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of Christ, we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit. Remember, Lord, your church spread throughout the world, and bring her to the fullness of charity, together with Leo, our Pope, Francis, our bishop, and all the clergy. Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection, and all who have died in your mercy. Welcome them into the light of your face. Have mercy on us all, we pray that with the blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with Blessed Joseph, her spouse, with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages, we may merit to be called eyes to eternal life, and may praise and glorify you through your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.
SPEAKER_02Through him and with him and in him. Oh God Almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours forever and ever.
SPEAKER_04Amen.
SPEAKER_03At the Savior's command and formed by the divine teaching, we dare to say, Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily prayer and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray from every evil. Graciously grant peace in our days, that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power, the glory are yours, now and forever. Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your apostles, peace I leave you, my peace I give you. Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will, who live and reign forever and ever. Amen. The peace of the Lord be with you always. And with your spirit. Let us offer one another the sign of Christ's peace. Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb. Lord, I'm not worthy they should enter under my roof, but only say the word, and my soul shall be healed.
SPEAKER_01Please join me now in this act of spiritual communion. My Jesus, I believe that you are present in this holy sacrament of the altar. I love you above all things, and I passionately desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come spiritually into my soul, so that I may unite myself wholly to you now and forever. Amen.
SPEAKER_03Amen. The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. May Almighty God bless you, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. The mass is ended. Let us go in the love of Christ. Thanks be to God.
SPEAKER_01Our thanks to our donors for the gift of this Mass.
