And they join me in thanksgiving, Bernice and Brian O'Neill, for the gift of this Mass. Let we begin with the sign of our salvation in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. The Lord be with you.

SPEAKER_06

And with your spirit.

SPEAKER_02

In my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and what I have failed to do. Through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault. Therefore I ask, Blessed Mary, the Virgin, all the angels and saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me, dear God. May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life. Lord have mercy. Christ have mercy. Lord have mercy. Lord have mercy. Let us pray. Almighty ever living God, direct our actions according to your good pleasure, that in the name of your beloved Son, we may abound in good works. To our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever.

unknown

Amen.

SPEAKER_01

A reading from the book of the prophet Isekiel. The word of the Lord came to me. Mortal, say to the Prince of Tyre, thus says the Lord God, because your heart is proud, and you have said, I am a God. I sit in the seat of the gods in the heart of the seas. Yet you are but a mortal and no god, though you compare your mind with the mind of a god. You are indeed wiser than Daniel. No secret is hidden from you. By your wisdom and your understanding, you have amazed wealth for yourself, and have gathered gold and silver into your treasures. By your great wisdom in trade, you have increased your wealth, and your heart has become proud in your wealth. Therefore, thus says the Lord God, because you compare your mind with the mind of a God, therefore I will bring strangers against you, the most terrible of nations. They shall draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom and defile your splendor. They shall trust you down in the pit, and you shall die a violent death in the heart of the sea. Will you still say, I am a God in the presence of those who kill you, though you are but a mortal and no God in the hands of those who wound you. You shall die the death of the uncircumcised by the hand of foreigners. The word of the Lord.

SPEAKER_04

But I feared provocation by the enemy, for their adversaries might misunderstand. It is I who did love Let them not say our hand is trial. It was not the void who did others. The ornation void of sons There is no understanding. It is I who did How could one have rooted a foes and to put a mere two flight? Almost the rock had sort of given it is all dealed and given Hallelujah Hallelujah. Jesus Christ was rich, but he became poor to make you rich out of his poverty.

SPEAKER_02

Jesus said to his disciples, Truly I tell you, it will be hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again, I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God. When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astounded and said, Then who can be saved? But Jesus looked at them and said, For mortals it is impossible, but for God all things are possible. Then Peter said in reply, Look, we have left everything and followed you. What then will we have? Jesus said to them, Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man is seated at the throne of his glory, you will have followed me also to sit on the twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And every one who has left house or brothers or sisters, or father or mother, or children or fields for my sake's for my name's sake will receive a hundredfold and will inherit eternal life. But many who are still first will be last, and the last will be first. The gospel of the Lord. So then why would he issue such a strong warning to the rich of his time, perhaps even to the rich people of today, of our modern times? We know that Jesus was not opposed to wealth per se, nor was opposed, was he opposed to the wealthy. Jesus had many friends who were well-to-do, including a notorious tax collector, and you know who that was. Imagine. One of them even became an apostle. Jesus' warning reiterated the wisdom of the Old Testament, and I quote, Better a poor man who walks in his integrity than a rich man who is perverse in his ways. End quote. I got that from Proverbs and from Psalm 37. Also, do not wear yourselves out to get rich. Be wise enough to desist, to give it up. The truth is we are all poor beggars in need of God. Now, it's true that Jesus seems to say that it is nearly impossible for a rich man who has a rich life to enter God's kingdom. Also, we hear Jesus using the example of a camel. A camel was regarded as the largest animal known by the Jews where Jesus lived at that time. Some of you, I'm sure, have already heard this explanation, yet it's worth repeating it that to understand Jesus' teaching, this is what we should know. Again, if you're first, you'll hear it again from me, that the phrase Jesus using the eye of a needle, it could be interpreted quite literally, or it could be figuratively described as a narrow gate or low gate where the city walls were, which were the city walls that was used for the travelers when the larger public gate was locked at the night for fear of anyone coming in to seize the town, the Old Testament, the uh the gate, the plea where the people lived. People had to lower themselves to enter the gate. So a camel would have to literally kneel down and crawl to get through the gate because it was so so small and so much lower. You see, my dear friends in Christ, we need us, we all need to humbly kneel before the Lord and acknowledge our total need and dependence on him. We will not find peace, security, and happiness that can satisfy our deepest longing when we're high, lofty, and proud. Here's a quote from St. Augustine of Hippo, who reminds us that we are all poor beggars of God. And he writes, Even though you possess plenty, you are still poor. You go about the temporal possessions, but need God's eternal love and richness. You listen to the needs of a human beggar, yet you yourself are a beggar for God. What you do with those who beg from you is what God will do to his beggar. In other words, you are filled and you are empty. And he continues fill your empty neighbor from your fullness, fill your empty neighbor from your fullness, so that your emptiness may be filled in God's fullness. And quote and a personal example. I was a bit, well, a lot, very uncomfortable. For two reasons. First of all, the food that was mentioned in the menu, I could not understand because they were fancy words. I don't know what language they were in. However, when it came to the price, they were very plain, very clear, very high, very expensive. My host told me not to worry about the names or the prices to order whatever I wanted. And once I understood what the names were in English, I was able to order what I wanted, what I liked. Still afraid. My host also assured me that they were not looking for any favors, just company to enjoy a nice meal together. Yet I still worried. I didn't know what was going to be on that bill. A few weeks later, another invitation came from the same person. I said yes, provided that I got to choose the restaurant, the place, and that we took turns at who was going to pay the bill. We agreed. We went to a local restaurant where everyone was laughing and having a good time and eating the best burger in town. A quarter of the price of the previous previous restaurant, you might say, each to his own. The short of it is, my guest did not know how to react. How to react to the friendliness of the staff and of the other guests who were there. The meal was great, but the conversation, the commodity was excellent. People were laughing and enjoying and just enjoying themselves, not putting anything against a fancy restaurant, but we were relaxed. And that's the idea of being with a friend. See, it was no big deal. It was just time to get to know one another and share a meal and great memories. My dad used to say that positions can create false security and independence. So why is Jesus so cautious about wealth? Wealth, your friends, can make us falsely independent. And according to St. Timothy, wealth can also lead us into harmful desires and selfishness. Don't let it happen to you. Look, lastly, take a lesson from Jesus. Rich about the rich rich man and his sons who refuse the aid of poor Lazarus. What happened to him? Let me close with a short prayer for you. Lord Jesus, you have captured our hearts and opened to us the treasures of heaven. May you always be my treasure and delight, and may nothing else keep me from giving you all of myself. Amen. And the intentions for the month of August are for we pray that this month of Mary's assumption renews our hope of one day sharing eternal life with her and her son. We pray to the Lord. Another month of another month of Mary, why not? She's always in our lives. And now we bring more awareness to her as together we pray. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our day. Amen. Our Lady Assumption, pray for Jesus. Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for humans have received the bread we offer you. Fruit of the earth and work of human hands, it will become for us the bread of light. Through the mystery of this water and wine, we come to share in the divinity of Christ, who humble themselves to share in our humanity. Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for your goodness to receive the wine we offer you. Fruit of the vine and work of human hands, it will become our spiritual drink.

SPEAKER_01

Blessed be God forever.

SPEAKER_02

Lord, worship my iniquity and cleanse me from my sins. Pray, brothers and sisters, that my sacrifice and yours be acceptable to God, the Almighty Father.

SPEAKER_01

May the Lord accept sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name. For our Holy Church.

SPEAKER_02

Accept our offerings, O Lord, we pray, and in sanctifying them, grant that they may profit us for salvation through Christ our Lord. Amen. The Lord be with you. Lift up your hearts. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right and just through right and just our duty and our salvation, always in every word to give you thanks, Lord, Holy Father, Almighty Eternal God. For just through your beloved Son, you created the human race, so also through him with great goodness you formed it anew. And so it is right that all your creatures serve you. All the redeemed praise you, and now your saints with one heart bless you.

SPEAKER_04

Therefore we to exalt you with all the angels, as in joyful celebration we acclaim Holy Holy God of Heaven and earth for full of your glory.

SPEAKER_02

Make holy therefore these gifts, we pray, by sending down your spirit upon them like the dew fall, so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion, he took bread, and giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and eat of it. For this is my body, which will be given up for you. In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice, and once more giving thanks, he gave it to the disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and drink from it. For this is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many, for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in memory of me.

SPEAKER_04

And drink this cup. We proclaim your death all ward until you come again.

SPEAKER_02

Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection, we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the chaos of salvation, giving thanks that you've held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. How do we pray that by taking of the body and blood of Christ we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit? Remember, Lord, your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity. Together we lay our Pope, Francis, our bishop, and all the clergy. Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection, and all who have died in your mercy. Welcome them into the light of your face. Have mercy on us all, we pray. We may merit to be co-heres of eternal life. And we praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ. Through him and with him and in him. O God, Almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours for ever and ever. Amen. At the Savior's command, informed by divine teaching, we dare to say, Our Father, who art in heaven, our name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And leave us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, you pray from every evil. Graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we wait the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

SPEAKER_06

Now and forever.

SPEAKER_02

Lord Jesus Christ, you say to your apostles, peace I leave you, my peace I give you. Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your church. And grace, you under peace and unity, in accordance with your will, will live and reign forever and ever. Amen. The peace of the Lord be with you always. And with your spirit. Set them free, set yourself free, and grant them God's peace. Behold the Lamb of God. Behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb. Lord, I'm not worthy that you should enter into my roof. But only say the word and my soul shall be right.

SPEAKER_03

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in this holy sacrament of the altar. I love you above all things, and I passionately desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come spiritually into my soul, so that I may unite myself wholly to you now and forever. Amen.

SPEAKER_02

Grant we pray, Almighty God, that receiving the grace by which you bring us to new life, we may always glory in your gift through Christ our Lord. Amen. The Lord be with you. And we with the Lord Spirit. May Almighty God bless you, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen. Let us go from this Eucharist in the love and peace of Christ. Thank you.
