"The Lord God appointed a set time for the coming of his Son into the world; nothing was left to chance. Infinite wisdom dictated the hour when the Messiah should be born, and the moment when he should be cut off. His advent and his work are the highest point of the purpose of God, the hinge of history, the centre of providence, the crowning of the edifice of grace."

"Redemption demands a louder note of gratitude than creation! Sweet as providence must ever be to the believer, yet redemption--- redemption is the best wine kept unto the last, the last and best work of heaven, the mirror in which the brightest attributes of Jehovah are most clearly reflected. This is the head-stone of the corner, crowning the great temple of divine grace. “God so loved the world” — not JUST to make it fair and beautiful; that is not enough: “God so loved the world ”— not JUST to sustain it, and give it day and night, and summer and winter; that is not enough: but the line that will fathom the depths of divine love is this:

He “so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him might not perish, but have everlasting life.”
