Isn’t Elijah a lot like us? Didn’t the brother of our Lord declare “Elijah was a man of like passions as we are”. James 5:17.

So, why such an ending? Why would Elijah fear for his life after such a great victory? Where was the great prayer warrior now?

Thus says the LORD: "Refrain your voice from weeping, And your eyes from tears; For your work shall be rewarded. Jeremiah 31:16

When all goes well, we are so in danger of believing all will continue to go well that we may in fact miss what does go well. False expectations destroy careers, marriages and churches because the good is inappreciable in the shadow of the great.

            1) Don’t think you can walk it alone!

            2) Everyone must take a break! (remember the Sabbath)

            3) You have NO idea what God is going to do!- Just that it is good

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

Does corruption rise within your spirit, and grace seem like a poor spark trampled under foot? Does your faith almost fail you? Fear not, it is neither your graces nor feelings on which you are to live: you must live simply by faith on Christ. With all these things against us, now-in the very depths of our sorrow, wherever we may be now, whether on the mountain or in the valley..  be encouraged !! “Beloved, now are we the sons of God.”  SPURGEON

TEXT: 1 KINGS 19:3-9
