“Submit yourselves unto God”— it is what angels do, what kings and prophets have done, what the best of men delight in— there is therefore no dishonor nor sorrow in so doing. Our Creator is infinitely good, and his will is love: HE IS “too wise to err, too good to be unkind,”  (Spurgeon)

― Oswald Chambers “ As servants of God, we must learn to make room for Him—to give God “elbow room.” We plan and figure and predict that this or that will happen, but we forget to make room for God to come in as He chooses.”

It is not the first time God has changed good people's good plans. God had Abraham leave his family and home; Moses, He had lead the Hebrews of of Egypt at the age of 80, Esther represented her people as the wife of a pagan king, Hosea married a prostitute as a powerful metaphor and Saul had his theological ideologies shattered to a thousand pieces.
It seems our dreams just get in the way of His plans and our plans seldom match up to His will. So, God by His sovereign love closes the door to our will, our plans and our dreams and graciously opens a door to His perfect plan within our purview. Sometimes everything needs to change. It can be terrifying, but God who is the Dream Weaver is more able to build out of our shattered pieces than we could ever imagine from the best of our talents and abilities.

"Our God supplants and replants dreams in the hearts and minds of those He wants to use in His grand plan of redemption.'  (Tim Jupp)
