Cinco De Mayo! May 5, 2025: Much-Needed Moisture After April's Dry Spell
Hi, this is meteorologist Steve Pelletier and I am the weatherman. Thanks for checking in to theweathermanpodcom on your Monday. It's the fifth day of the fifth month, cinco de Mayo on 2025. And our weather situation across the Northeast continues to give us much needed moisture. It has been dry through the month of April. Although amounts of rainfall in April are only about an inch below, it has been only mostly in the early portion of the month, and then the latter portion was about close to 15 to 18 days of dry weather and warmer conditions too, so that really caused a deficit in the amount of water in the ground. We've gotten about somewhere between a half and three quarters of an inch of rainfall so far this past weekend, but again it was hit and miss, mostly from showers and even a few isolated thunderstorms that were locally severe across northern New Jersey and southeastern and western portions of New England. But it looks like more of the same for your Monday A 90 percent probability of rain. From DC up to the Boston area. Temperatures will be cooler off the ocean, generally in the mid-60s, and amounts of rainfall should range between a quarter in some spots to as much as three quarters in others, especially in thunderstorms. Of course, with thunderstorms you can get several inches of rain in just a short period of time. The low pressure system associated with that is currently over western Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh. It'll be slowly driving eastward, still keeping us showers into Monday night. The Monday night temperatures will be chilly, generally down into the lower 50s and for Tuesday also about an 80% probability of occasional rain and showers. As this system will linger and probably will start to break midweek, wednesday, later Thursday and Friday, we're going to have fair and seasonable conditions. That means highs in the lower 70s nighttime, lows in the upper 40s Elsewhere across the nation.
Speaker 0:If you're traveling on this Monday, good weather in Atlanta and also in Charlotte. However, there was a little bit of light rain shower action in Charlotte earlier in the day. It looks like it's all clearing out. Central and South Florida also under showers and some isolated thunderstorms Could give a little bit of delays there. Houston, with rainy weather and some locally severe conditions in Dallas-Fort Worth could slow things down and it's the second most busiest airport in the nation. Washington, portions of Texas, eastern sections of New Mexico locally severe weather with severe thunderstorms and heavy downpours Also a possibility up to as much as from El Paso all the way up to Amarillo, extending into western portions of Oklahoma and Kansas. Also areas of rain all across the central and northern Rockies, from eastern Idaho, southern portions of Montana all the way down to Four Corners. Dry weather on the west Coast, la, san Francisco no problems there. Also dry in Portland and Seattle with seasonable conditions. I'm your manager, steve Pelletieri, and I am the weatherman. Hope you have a great day today. Talk to you first thing on Tuesday. Enjoy the day.
