Monday's Storms Will Disrupt Northeast Travel Plans

Hi, this is meteorologist Steve Pelletieri and I am the weatherman. Thanks for checking into theweathermanpodcom On your Sunday. It's the 13th day in the month of July, almost halfway through, and it's been warm and generally on the drier side. There have been some scattered thunderstorms from time to time, but it looks like a heavier area of thunderstorms will be arriving in the east sometime on Monday and Monday night, followed by high pressure building in from the northwest. That type of high pressure system right down out of central Canada, then modified to some very warm conditions, means that temperatures will probably be in the upper 80s lower 90s for Tuesday, wednesday and Thursday of this week. Maybe another frontal system arriving towards the end of the week as well. But for the Northeast corridor, for your Sunday, look for a decent amount of clouds early, then some sunshine with temperatures ranging between 85 and 90, but a cooling breeze along the Jersey and south shore of Long Island and even coastal sections of Delmarva, from Dewey Beach, rehoboth, all the way down to Pocomoke City and down to the Virginia coast. Basically, it looks like there will be a little bit of a sea breeze cooling things down within about a mile or two of the shoreline on your Sunday, but showers and thunderstorms will be moving in on Monday as high pressure starts to build into the Great Lakes, but it's going to be a slow process. Those thunderstorms could give us some locally heavy downpours during the daytime and evening on Monday from DC up to the Boston area, so that will probably cause extensive delays if you're flying weather-wise into the northeast because of those storms on Monday.

By Tuesday, though, it looks like the situation starts to straighten out. As mentioned, highs in the lower 90s. If you are flying today, though, it looks pretty decent. Down around Atlanta, just some scattered thunderstorms, but nothing much. Down in the Charlotte area, scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms More numerous north of Orlando up to Jacksonville and the Florida Peninsula, but scattered light thunderstorms for the most part from Fort Lauderdale down to Miami and to the Keys and around the world up toward Fort Myers and Tampa. St Pete Looks like some showers and thunderstorms in Houston and also in Dallas, fort Worth and, unfortunately for the hill country west of Austin, it looks like between two and three inches of rainfall that could cause some flash flooding in those places too.

Everybody watching for the recovery effort going on there. West Coast showing generally dry weather from LA to San Francisco and even further north of Portland and Seattle. No problems weather-wise if you're flying into there. Flying into Chicago, looking pretty good, although in Minneapolis, st Paul, just some early fog and haze. They're flying into Chicago looking pretty good, although in Minneapolis, st Paul, just some early fog and haze and then some sunshine, just a slight chance of a shower, but minimal delays into Minnesota during the daytime. Today I'm your moderator, steve Pelletier, and I am the weatherman. Hope you have a great day today. Talk to you first thing on Monday. No-transcript.
