Almanac Predicts Cold, Dry Winter with Holiday Snow

Stephen Pellettiere
Speaker 1:

Hi, this is meteorologist Steve Pelletier and I'm the weatherman. Thanks for checking into theweathermanpodcom on your Tuesday. And it is the 26th day of the month of August 2025. It is the day that the Farmers' Almanac puts out their winter forecast. They had at wwwalmanaccom they had a countdown to midnight on the 26th when they were going to release the weather forecast for the nation as far as the Farmer Almanac is concerned, and it showed for the northeast corridor, basically from about Richmond up to the Boston area, that it was going to be cold and dry, a little bit drier than normal, with probably near to a below normal snowfall, so it says with probably near to below normal snowfall, so it says. And also the possibility of the snowiest period being around the holidays, from, oh, let's say, around late December into early to mid-January and also late February, which is actually fairly typical for what we've been getting over the last three to five years. But we'll see if that happens. Just got to get back to the 26th of August. Then we get closer to the wintertime and just take a look back at that. Or you can check out the Almanac at your local hardware store or bookstore or even on Amazon if you want it. But yes, it is on almanaccom. That forecast is there if you want to take a look at it. I think they used basically statistics from the last several years, or from maybe hundreds of years. I don't know how they do it, but they come out with it and only for $7, you can get the whole forecast for the wintertime. What do you think of that?

Speaker 1:

Well, weather-wise for the Northeast corridor, we are looking at dry conditions. It did not have much in the form of some shower action as the next frontal system or the last frontal system moved through. That was on Sunday night. Early Monday had a little bit of cloud cover associated with that, but now we've got sunny weather upcoming for Tuesday, wednesday and even Thursday. Each day, temperatures hovering 70s to near 80, a little bit below normal. That's the way. The month of August is going to be a little bit below normal, below normal rainfall-wise, that's for sure. Sure, uh, nighttime temperatures down into the mid to upper 50s. That'll be for tuesday night. Also on wednesday night, thursday now, there's a chance of some showers, with another weather front moving through on friday, daytime highs only in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees. So you can see that we get into late august. Now the temperatures are starting to trend down a little bit. From the beginning of aug the average high is around 84 for New York City by the end of August it's around 81 degrees. So you can see that with less and less sunshine each and every day rises later, sets earlier. Well, you're going to see your average temperatures fall and this upcoming holiday weekend it's Labor Day weekend Looks like sunny weather for Saturday, sunday and Labor Day Monday.

Speaker 1:

Each day highs in the upper 70s to near 80. Nighttime lows generally in the 50s to the lower 60s, and that is good. From Richmond right up through the Boston area as well. You have airline travel in your itinerary for this Tuesday. We do see generally fair conditions across much of the Northeast.

Speaker 1:

There are some light shower action as some cooler, drier weather is moving into the east. But a little upper level disturbance swinging out of the eastern Great Lakes will cause some showers in central and southern Michigan, northern Ohio, northwestern Pennsylvania and western New York State, central and south Florida also under showers and some thunderstorms as the weather front will be almost stationary there for the next couple of days. Houston and Dallas basically still well above normal temperature-wise, but they are looking at the possibility of some scattered showers in Houston during the afternoon. Dallas-fort Worth mostly dry, maybe a late-day thunderstorm. Uranious areas, right now still around four corners, in Nevada, utah, in Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona you're seeing some hefty amounts of rain, especially during the afternoon hours. Central and southern Idaho, also western Wyoming with heavier amounts of rain, as will be San Joaquin Valley to the east, the California range to the east and also on the west coast, dry weather from LA up to San Francisco, although there will be some showers moving in there. Also. Dry conditions in Portland and in Seattle as well.

Speaker 1:

So, weather-wise, atlanta is looking good, charlotte is looking good, chicago, no problems. No problems Weather-wise into the New York and Boston area or DC.
