Hurricane Melissa, Northeast Rains, And A Clearing Weekend
Hi, this is MediaMounter Steve Pellethier, and I am the Weatherman. Thanks for checking into the WeathermanPond.com on your Thursday. It's the 30th day of October. First, we're going to do Melissa. Melissa, a hurricane category three. At this point, we'll be diminishing down to a category two over the next 24 hours. Maximum winds in and close to the center of about 100 miles per hour with some gust up to about 130 miles per hour. Again, it's in and close to the eyewall. As the storm at this point moving out of the Bahamas and now is accelerating towards the northeast. Melissa is moving towards the north-northeast at about 25 miles per hour and is accelerating northeastward uh over the next couple of days. This forecast track will bring the core of Melissa uh just to the west of Bermuda, sometime on Thursday night into early Friday, and then further to the north. Then it'll bring rapidly diminishing as it goes into the North Atlantic on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sunday. Otherwise, on the northeast, we have some hefty rains that were across the Carolinas during the latter portion of Wednesday. And now most of that rainy weather is moving into eastern Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, New York, and much of New England. As the storm is located just over Altoona, Pennsylvania, just to the west of Harrisburg. The frontal system from there extends down from the center of the low, uh, down across through the central Del Marva Peninsula, right uh to the west of Ocean City, Maryland, and just offshore of the outer banks of North Carolina as high pressure starts to build south now out of the Great Lakes. This means it's going to be a rainy day for today across the mid-Atlantic and Northeast, although an improving trend for D.C. and Baltimore. Uh the rains will be at height during the afternoon and evening hours on Thursday in New York City, Philadelphia, and in the Boston area. So expect rainy conditions as temperatures go into the 60s today. However, we're looking at improving weather for tomorrow. Tonight showers and thunderstorms with the next front moving through, and then we get into a clearing trend. Nighttime lows back into the mid-40s. It looks like uh Sunday to partly Sunday day for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday as we end October on Halloween and begin the new month of November this upcoming weekend. Temperatures. Daytime will range into the lower 60s, nighttime lows into the 40s. Now, if you're flying by air today and looking at good weather in Atlanta and in Charlotte, also Central and South Florida looking pretty good. Might be a little bit of rain shower action across Tampa St. Pete and clear water. But further south, Fort Myers is looking good, as does Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm. And looking out towards Houston and Dallas, good weather expected for there. Chicago's dry. Might be a few showers in Minneapolis, but no major problems weather wise. And dry conditions finally along the west coast. San Diego, LA, San Francisco, all the way up to Portland, and up in Seattle. We're looking at dry conditions for your Thursday. I'm in your mind, Steve Pelletieron, the weatherman. Hope you have a great day today. We'll talk to you first thing tomorrow. Keep dry and see ya on Friday. Take care.
