February Cold
Hi, this is Meteorologist Steve Pellethieri, and I am the Weatherman. Thanks for checking into the WeathermanPond.com. On your Sunday, first day of February, we made it through January. January showing up, as mentioned, uh, about a couple degrees, two, three degrees below normal. Uh, above normal snowfall and really wicked weather over the last couple of weeks. It's been tough. Uh, we're starting off February, still below normal. High temperatures will only reach the middle twenties. A big storm caused uh lots of snow in North Carolina, South Carolina sections of Virginia and eastern Tennessee, and even sections of West Virginia as well. That storm is now off into the Atlantic and moving away. However, the uh amount of snowfalls in some places across the Shenandoah really uh well above what they normally get for a whole season. So uh that's all behind us now. And now we've got some uh dry weather for a good balance of this week. We do see a frontal system moving through on Wednesday night, early Thursday. That could spark some snow showers, mid-Atlantic and Northeast. And then also on Friday and Saturday, the possibility of some light snow and snow showers with a couple of cold fronts moving through. Temperature trends still remaining, uh, well, not as bad. You know, we've been going around 15 degrees below normal. Probably only going to be maybe between seven and eight degrees below normal as we head towards midweek. And for this upcoming first weekend. Actually, it's Super Bowl weekend, isn't it? I really show I'm not really following football lately, but uh it is uh going to be uh generally nice weather after that uh chance of some snow showers on Friday night, early Saturday. So here's the forecast in detail for basically uh your Sunday. There is some clouds, especially to the south, to the north and east. It's a clearing trend, but uh gusty winds out of the north, 15 gusting to 30, and temperatures reaching the mid-20s. Wind chill value is still a problem. Zero to minus five, minus ten in some of those places across southern New England. And for Sunday night, partly cloudy down to about 10. Monday sunshine, 32, Tuesday, a sunny day also 30 to 35. Wednesday, also the 30s. At night there could be those snow showers with another cold front arriving. So temperatures are reaching the 30s on Wednesday, but at night down to 5 to 10 degrees. And back into some colder weather, mid-20s on Thursday. Friday and Friday evening, an Arctic front arrives. That could give a few inches of snow in some places across the northeast. That'll be Friday night, Saturday. Saturday afternoon clearing with sunshine, 22 for a high next weekend. And Super Bowl Sunday also looking like we're going to have a decent amount of sunshine, but temperatures only in the lower 20s or even the upper teens, the lower 20s. So cold weather wave will continue right in through that second full week of February after a Super Bowl Sunday. Now, if you're traveling by air today, problem spots that we see across the nation, maybe coastal Massachusetts, Cape Cod, and sections of coastal Maine. Also looking at rain across the Pacific Northwest and snow in Minnesota, Wisconsin, sections of eastern Iowa and west and northwestern Illinois. But uh in a New York area, it's just those gusty winds that will slow things down in the New York area, but no major weather problems. Uh Boston could have some snow or some snow showers or squalls, so that could slow things down a bit there. It does look decent finally in Charlotte and also decent weather in Atlanta, so no problems weather-wise into those places today. Central and South Florida also looking pretty good. They did have a spout of some very cold weather. It will start to warm up a bit. Courtesy of an area of high pressure that's currently across the western Gulf of Mexico, and that means that we've got good weather in Houston and Dallas, Fort Worth. Chicago, maybe some snow showers. Definitely some snow showers. Minneapolis, St. Paul, West Coast, dry in LA, San Diego, and San Francisco. Rainy weather, as mentioned, in Portland and Seattle again today. I'm your monster, Steve Pellet, Tier and I am the Weatherman. Hope you have a great day today. Talk to you first thing on Monday. Let's see what the Groundhog says. Talk to you then. See ya.
