Greetings, friends!  Lyle Wiley here - a high school EnglishTeacher and Speech and Debate Coach in Thermopolis, Wyoming - and your host of the One Clap Speech and Debate Podcast!

Happy summer break to many of you out there! To quote the immortal words of DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince… Summer, summer, summertime! Time to sit back and unwind!

Also, congratulations to all of our graduating seniors!  My school is winding down here too...  We finished the school year for students last week here in Thermop, and professional development is winding down this week too.  This weekend, many students will be cramming to record their supplemental events for the National Tournament… sooo…..

Welcome to episode four of Speech Love where we are hyping up for the National Speech and Debate Tournament!  If you are looking for some last minute ideas to spruce up your recorded supplemental events or some ways to improve your live virtual performance for the National Speech and Debate Tournament this summer - look no further!  Today on the podcast, Cheyenne East Assistant Coach Ashley Schulz and Cheyenne East standout sophomore performer Dani Schulz share some really smart and useful tips to push your poetry and interpretative presentation skills to the next level for Nats.

Ashley is a good friend of the podcast who is an invaluable colleague with many years of coaching experience at Cheyenne East.  She has coached National Champions and consistently helps her students find success on the stage and the screen during our virtual speech run.  Dani is a competitor who is one of those Cheyenne East students who is experiencing consistent success in Speech and Debate competition.  Among her many impressive Speech and Debate accolades, Dani staged and placed in third at James Logan this season - the accomplishment she is most proud of and excited about.

On today’s episode, first Ashley will provide some ideas for
Recording Interpretative Supplementals
Breathing in Performance
Black Folder in Prose/Poetry
Cutting a Prose Piece
Selection of Prose Pieces

Then Dani gives her thoughts on
Creative Movement and Blocking in Poetry
Writing Killer Intros
Cutting a Powerful Poetry

While I wanted to package these two fabulous interviews separately, I decided to put them both in one episode to make sure I could release the episode before Memorial Day weekend.  Trust me, Ashley and Dani have some great advice for interpretative performers that you will not want to miss their ideas even if the episode runs a little longer…. Also, apologies for some of the tech sound issues.  I did my best to smooth them over, but there are a few moments where you might notice some connection issues in the interviews.

In any case, get ready to sit back and soak in some hot interpretative tips and tricks from Ashley and Dani Schulz!
