Show Notes

Swan Dive welcomes Autumn Breon, the rocket scientist who dove from astrophysics to innovating global education to harnessing art for social activism, all before she turned 30. After graduating from Stanford in Aeronautics & Astronautics, Autumn did research for NASA. Dissatisfied by the lack of fellow women of color in her cohort, Autumn founded STEMgineers Shifting Gears, a STEM-focused extracurricular program for middle schoolers based in Watts, CA. Her work to further the dialogue on educational equity led to South Africa where she founded the African School for Excellence. Autumn now works as an art advisor and consultant specializing in contemporary art and contemporary African art, curating and brokering art in Europe, Africa, and the States. Her work has been recognized by the Smithsonian Institution, Aspen Institute, TED, the Obama Foundation, and LA Magazine. Among the pearls of wisdom Autumn shares is the value of failure, as long as you "fail fast" and learn from the experience.
