Ben and Emma

Jono Lester loves driving fast, running far and eating plants. Jono is a third-generation racing driver who’s been in the driver’s seat since age 13. Jono is also an SPCA spokesperson and a passionate plant-based advocate.

Typically, busy racing GT cars in Asia, Jono has been increasingly involved in ultra and long-distance trail running since Covid-19 has seen him grounded in NZ. We also have an important chat about the mental health challenges of lockdown from an athlete’s perspective.

In this episode we discuss:
• Jono’s personal background and his family’s racing heritage in New Zealand
• The future of car racing in a world that is increasingly aware of carbon emissions and climate change and the promise of EV racing
• The mental and athletic demands of a race car driver and the training required
• Jono’s transition to a plant-based diet, the reasoning that inspired the change and the benefits Jono’s experienced since making the switch
• The positive reactions of Jono’s team following his plant-based lifestyle change
• Jono’s growing passion for training running and setting new goals and challenges
• Strategies for coping with the latest Covid lockdown
• And much more!
