Get The Hell Out of Your Life

Rich's Story: How to Blow the Hell out of your life!

Ron Meyers Season 6 Episode 40

Send us a text

What if the breakthrough you’ve been begging for arrives the moment you stop forcing it? We sit down with Rich, whose life swerved from a ladder fall and homelessness to a nationwide small business and a faith that feels lived-in, not performed. His turning point wasn’t a perfect plan—it was a stranger’s gas money, twenty-eight days of relentless work, and a decision to open his heart and let God lead. The result: Simple Salsa in all 50 states, a marriage forged in grit, and a sales booth that doubles as a confessional where people find a listener, a prayer, and sometimes a path forward.

Along the way, we explore a deeper identity—one anchored in the new covenant and sealed by the Holy Spirit. We talk about the quiet practice that changed everything: coffee with Jesus. Not ritual for its own sake, but honest, daily conversation that steadies your mind, restores your courage, and reminds you that salvation isn’t fragile. If you’ve been wearing joy on the surface while breaking inside, you’ll hear practical wisdom about taking the first step, practicing patience, and recognizing the right door when it opens. We touch the hard truths—shame, detours, timelines that stretch—and show how grace threads them together into a story you can stand on.

You’ll also hear why relationships outrun transactions in business and life, how to reframe work so it fuels rather than drains you, and what a personal pep talk from Jesus might sound like when you need it most. This is hope with calluses: humble, persistent, and ready to serve. If the noise in your life has been drowning out direction, consider this your cue to slow down, ask for help, and let peace lead the way.

If this resonated, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs courage today, and leave a review so more people can find stories of real struggles and real hope.

Ron Meyers:

Hello, my friends. It is so good to be with you today. I love this autumn weather. Cool, low humidity, and when I have my coffee with Jesus early in the morning, I seem to be more fired up than ever. Because in that moment, everything is just perfect. Hi, I'm Ron Myers. I'm your host. The show is called Get the Hell Out of Your Life. Real stories of God's faithfulness. Friends, we all need a spiritual charge each day. We all need encouragement and hope when we feel hopeless. And we all seek to be at the top of our game. We want to be the best and we want to show our best, whether work, play, or our relationships. We clothe ourselves with joy, happiness, and peace. But truth be told, our lives are in pieces. Broken, hopeless, uncertainty. And what is this all about? Do you think that? Is there a God? Why am I feeling like this? I go to church. I was raised in a family that believed in God. Friends, when we are willing to step back from our peak performance and take time for reflection, we can reconnect ourselves with God. And during these moments, he helps us uncover layers of our identity, revealing insights about ourselves that we may have forgot that we forgot. I will discuss this topic a bit later in the show, but first, let me introduce you to my guest, Rich Camp. He was truly at the lowest point in his life, and he and his wife, well, they were broke with only a couple of dollars to their name and no clear direction on what to do next. However, that's when God opened a door for him. I met Rich a few years ago at my Christmas City gift show, where he was and still is an exhibitor. He and his wife Julie run a business called Simple Salsa, and his story is one of encouragement and inspiration. Let's dive into Rich's story. Hello, Rich. So glad to have you here.

Rich Kemp:

And if they could just, in their own mind and heart, you know, just turn their heart over to God and let him lead them. He'll give them the strength and the will and the perseverance to get through all of this. I know it's very difficult, but they've got to have that faith. Who is Rich Kemp? Well, I was actually, I'm from originally from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. My family moved to Houston where I was raised from the time I was a year old. And grew up in Houston, left Houston after I graduated high school, moved to a small community. I just didn't want the big city life anymore. And through all my ventures in life, God led me to Colorado. I lived up there for over ten years, loved it, started a construction company, did very, very well. That was my passion. And then I, of course, I fell off a ladder and hurt myself, so I guess where I couldn't do that anymore. And through different ventures that I was led to, here we wound up making different spices blends and and dips and chili and salsa, and this is what we're doing now. So I I just firmly believe that this is where we're supposed to be, this is where God led us to, and never look back. God is a foundation, just like a home foundation. Without Him, you're not gonna have any type of really solid structure in your life. And through some of the things that happened to me a few years back, it really got me to where I had to really open my heart even more and let him lead me. It was a very difficult thing for me because even though I've been a Christian since I was in my early teens, being a Christian and really letting God in your life and letting him lead you are two different things. And it's something that that I had to learn, but but once I opened my heart, I'm telling you, it's it's the greatest thing in the world. I think the the biggest thing was I was we were both at a point, and I had to commend my wife, she had just been a rock to this whole thing. But we were both at a point that I was just about ready to give up. I'm not the type of person that sits back and says, I don't know what to do. But that was where I was at. I didn't know what to do anymore. And it was just through the grace of God that we were contacted by someone that offers a job for a month out on the West Coast, and we didn't have the money to get there. We have never met these people. I knew the person's brother, they actually sent us over $300 in gas money and everything to get out there to work, and went to work for them selling a product for 28 straight days, made over $12,000 profit and the rest of history. Wow. And you know, and then God turned around and led us to different locations and different people throughout this period of time after this. It was really when you and I first got out there, and people don't believe the stories of telling us, but we were sitting in the motel room at night, which the company furnished for us, we had one dollar each to our name. One dollar each. We had no bank account, we had bills new. I mean, we were at our wit's end. And it was just we just sat back and said, Lord, help us. We you brought us here, help us. And we just went in and did it, and the rest of history. I really think that a lot of people, and even me at times, you know, you think, okay, you know, you're a Christian now, and all these doors are gonna open up, you know, the Lord's gonna just give you stuff. That's not the way it works. That's just not the way it works. Well, with me, I've always when I was younger, I had a lot of inner strength. And through this hard time that we went through, it was beating me down so bad that I mean I was at my wits and didn't know what to do. I've never been in this position before. I was ashamed, I felt guilty, you know, blaming myself for everything else. And when everything started turning around, I felt that inner strength coming back. I felt that determination coming back. You know, he gave me the will to get up every day. The thing that I tell people all the time is you have to take the first step and you have to have faith. And they look at me and go, Well, I can't. Well, see, you you can't say that because if it's something you want bad enough. When you get up in the morning and you go to work and you dread going to work, that works on you emotionally, it works on you spiritually. It it can tear you down. If you get up in the morning and what you do for a living is something that you don't consider a job that you love. Let me tell you, I I am so blessed. People don't have a clue.

Rick Kemp:

I am so blessed to do what I do. And today you've been doing simple sauce and what now, Rich, about eight, nine years? Uh going on eleven, right?

Rich Kemp:

And you go all over the United States. We do. We travel, we've gone as far as South Dakota, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia. We have distributors that sell for us in in various states, but we actually did the uh Cowboy Christmas show years ago out in Vegas, and that one show widened our online sales to where we are now in all 50 states in the United States. It was such a blessing because when we started this, my goal was within three years to be in all 50 states. Well, it took us about seven years. But you know what? That's God's timeline, that's fine. But we ship all over the country. We ship to people we've never met, never been in that area, and it's word of mouth, and I think a lot of it just stems from the fact that we have a good product. We offer good pricing. So I think there's a lot of a lot of things there. I I've always been a firm believer, and sometimes I get a little long-winded in the booth. Customers to me are not just dollar songs. I've gotten a lot of customers that we have built a very good relationship. We'll sit down and call each other, talk on the phone, we'll go out to have dinner, we'll go to that town, and so forth. That's the one thing that I really strive for, is because business is fine, but I also like to talk to people, get to know people. And I'll tell you, Ryan, it's really funny, and this is something that that a lot of people, my wife always tells me, she said, You should have been a therapist. I will have people come up to my booth and they'll sit there and talk to me, and I'll get to talking to them, and they'll just open up and tell me their deepest, darkest secrets, their life story. And people go, Why do you stand there and just talk to somebody? So I said, Listen, they need somebody to talk to. Amen. This person needs someone to open up to. And I said, and by doing that, maybe I can lead them to the Lord.

Rick Kemp:

So if that person came up to your booth, what would you tell that person?

Rich Kemp:

I would tell them to open their heart to Jesus. I would tell them to give in, to ask for help, to be humble. Don't don't be so bull-headed and strong-headed, you think you can do it yourself, but I'm telling you for a fact, you cannot. You have to have the Lord guiding you. But I would also tell them you also have to have patience. God is going to put you in the right spot at the right time. Don't force it. The hardest thing is individuals, and it was for me too, is to let go. I think that's the hardest thing being mortalist is to let go. And and I still struggle with that today. I mean, it's you know, it's it's a daily thing that I'm okay. I can't do that. I've got to let Lord go and what to do. But the thing I would really stress to people, number one, is you've got to open your heart to God. You've got to accept the Lord Jesus Christ for Savior. Number two is you have to have patience and be willing to let Him guide you. If you do that, everything will fall into place. And we don't know what the plan is. Sometimes you sit back and you go, you know, Lord, what's my plan? What do you have in plan for me? And the hardest thing is not knowing, but when the time is right, he's gonna place you in the right place, right time, the right people. He's gonna give you the knowledge, he's gonna give you the wisdom, he's gonna teach you the research, he's gonna He's gonna open up so many doors, and that's what he did for me. Ron, I'll tell you, when I was a young man in my late teens and early twenties, I was I was a sorry individual. I was a liar, I was a cheater, I was a thief. I wound up getting myself in trouble. I did at least turn around and have the honor and humble myself and turn myself in, but I was looking for five to ten years of state in the country. And by the grace of God, I never spent one second in jail. The charges were dropped. That is what changed me. So I tell people, and I especially talk to youth about this. It's okay if you make a mistake. Stand up and be accountable for what you do. Number one, and number two, don't make the same mistake. You know, I did I went to college, I was actually in the medical field back in my late 20s. I was a lab tech and I went to nursing school. And I got out of that, not because I didn't enjoy the patients, I did enjoy it, but it got too political. And so I left the medical profession, and that's when I got into construction and stuff like that. But but everything that I've done in my life was a building block. And you know, the Lord has worked so many ways in my life that I mean I can sit here and tell you, talk to you for two or three hours long, to be honest with you about it. But in short, it's it's it's really started to come around when I finally gave in and opened up.

Ron Meyers:

Yeah.

Rich Kemp:

And and I give praise to the Lord Jesus Christ every day because 16 years ago, 16 years ago, we were homeless.

unknown:

Okay.

Rich Kemp:

Living in a tent, $2 to our name. We got the chance to sell the jewelry cleaner. The gentleman that owned that company actually helped us get started doing shows with that because we didn't have really had the money at the time we got all of our bills paid. So we had to rebuy furniture and everything. We had sold everything trying to make things meet. I mean, we had squat. And um, so you know, all this stuff, we were sitting back going, okay, we can do this, we can do this. And it was that inner strength that the Lord was giving me every day to get up out of bed and never give up. Never give up. And never give up. Never give up. Never give up. Never. That is the worst thing you can do.

Ron Meyers:

When I return, I'm going to blow the hell out of your life.

Ron Meyers:

Welcome back, listeners. So here we are at the top of our game. Truth be told, we're not really happy. A lot of us wear joy, happiness, and peace because no one can know what we are feeling, and absolutely no one is going to know what we're going through. So we have to look like we have our act together. Sound familiar? Well, if it does, God has something he wants me to tell you today. He wants you to know that he loves you. But you need to take some time to reflect on your life and have some intimate conversations with him. I believe that's what God wants. He wants to begin a regular dialogue with you. I want to share something that is very important to me because I really just got the full revelation of this a few months ago. The Bible consists of two main parts the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament primarily focuses on the Jews, the Israelites, who are considered God's chosen people. However, there is an intriguing aspect that took me a few years to fully grasp. In the book of Hosea, it states, I will call a people who are not my people, my people. Who is he referring to? He's referring to me, a Gentile as well as other pagans and outsiders. That's right. The Old Testament was for the Israelites. But friends, in God's awesome love, mercy, and grace, he made a promise that he would call a people who are not his people, us, his people. Friends, God made a way for you and me to have access to him through his son Jesus. And we have something better than the Israelites. They didn't have the Holy Spirit. We have the Holy Spirit. And when the Holy Spirit comes into our lives, he seals our relationship with Jesus. We can never lose our salvation. You know, the breakthrough in my life was when I started having my coffee with Jesus every morning, engaging in intimate personal conversations where I poured out my heart and I shared with him what I was worried about. And you know what he did? He filled me with hope, encouragement, and inspiration. I was filled with something that the church could never do for me. And I always knew after I had my coffee with Jesus that everything was going to be okay. Friends, that was my testimony of how I developed a personal and intimate relationship with Jesus. It's truly, really, truly amazing to recognize that through the new covenant, God made a way for us to be his people. And he has given us something far greater than what was available under the old covenant, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, sealing our relationship with Jesus and assuring us of eternal security. My experience of having coffee with Jesus highlights the essence of what it means to live in the freedom and grace of the new covenant. It's not about fulfilling religious duties or meeting external expectations, but about engaging in a genuine, heartfelt relationship with God. The Holy Spirit within us is our comforter and guide for providing encouragement and inspiration that surpasses any external ritual or tradition. A personal connection with Jesus allows us to cast our cares on him, knowing that he cares for us deeply. It's in these moments of honest conversation and vulnerability that we experience his peace and assurance, reminding us that we are never alone and that he is always with us. So now, how might a personal pep talk from Jesus sound to you? I believe it would sound something like this. Remember, my friend, you are deeply loved and cherished. I have given you a new heart and a new spirit, and you are a new creation in me. You are not defined by your past mistakes or failures, but by my love and grace. You are forgiven, cleansed, and nothing can separate you from my love. I am always with you, and my spirit lives in you, guiding and empowering you. You have everything you need for life and godliness through your knowledge of me. Trust in me, lean not on your own understanding, for I am your strength and refuge. You are complete in me, lacking nothing. Let my peace rule in your heart, and let my love flow through you to others. You are my beloved child, and I delight in you. Walk in the freedom and joy that I have given you, knowing that I am for you and not against you. Friends, I believe with all my heart that is the pep talk Jesus would give you. In fact, he just did. I pray you received it.

Announcement:

Some of us are building highways, not with our hands, but with our hearts. We're on a journey that doesn't have an end. It's a rough road, but we know that someday it will be worth every rugged mile. Why don't you join us? We're the Christians. Now I know you've heard a lot of weird things about us, most of it not true. We don't really care. We just know that we're going to live forever and we can have an abundant life along the way. Jesus is our guide on this journey called life, and he said that he came to give us life that goes on forever and an abundant life. Hey, it's a total free highway. Jesus already paved the way. All we have to do is come on board. You don't have to be religious, you don't have to be perfect, you just have to accept the fact that Jesus already bridged the way to heaven. Then you have to put him behind the wheel. But when you finally let go and let Jesus take over, it's amazing how you find the journey a lot more peaceful because life without Jesus is kind of like going four-wheeling on a skateboard. Take some time to learn about Jesus. You'll find out how he can build an eternal highway in your heart.

Speaker 15:

Ron will be back in a moment to wrap up today's conversation right after a word from our sponsor.

Speaker 10:

How do you get the hell out of your life? Get on your knees and cry out to the Lord. He hears you right where you are.

Speaker:

How do you get the hell out of your life? Well, you replace it with Jesus. We got to be born again, born of the Spirit, and that's by trusting Jesus Christ, turning from our sins and trusting Jesus.

Speaker 14:

It's a one-step program, and you find out about this man by the name of Jesus who went to the cross and gave his life so that we will have life more abundantly. And if you can receive that love, he will love that hell out of you. How do you get the hell out of your life?

Rich Kemp:

You trust in him and you let him love the hell right out of you.

Speaker 11:

How do you get the hell out of your life? Oh, gosh. Jesus. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. And abide in him. Yes.

Speaker 1:

Turn to Jesus. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through him.
