The Family Disciple Me Podcast // Discipleship Starts With a Conversation
THIS IS ME! | Convo #4: I Am On God's Mind
Ever felt invisible, even in the midst of a crowd? In this episode, we lean into the next truth from Psalm 139: "I Am On God's Mind." A vivid beach-side picture reminds us that are never off God’s radar. Think warm sand slipping through your fingers, then multiply that beyond counting. That’s how Scripture describes God’s thoughts toward you: constant, precious, and purposeful.
Hosts Tosha Williams and Wendy Hickox unpack how this reality reshapes identity for overwhelmed parents, curious kids, and anyone feeling small in a loud world. Drawing from Psalm 121, Jeremiah 29:11, Philippians 1:6, and Jeremiah 31:3, we trace a thread of care, plans, perseverance, and everlasting love. The result is practical: simple moments become teaching moments. At the table, on a walk, or on the shore, we can point to the ordinary and tell the deeper story: God is thinking about you right now.
In this episode, we also share one more time the short identity poem that works both as a personal confession and a blessing you can speak over your family: "I am fully known, I am never alone, I am wonderfully designed, and, I am on God’s mind." Amen!!!
Grounded in our Seek Him Speak Him rhythm, we encourage you to use the accompanying devotion-driven discipleship guide (found in the Family Disciple Me app). Start with Scripture first, let God’s word steady your heart, then pass on what you’ve received in to those God has entrusted to you. We close with the prayer of Psalm 139:23–24, inviting God to search us, quiet our anxious thoughts, and lead us in the way everlasting. If you’re craving a fresh reminder of your worth and a simple path to disciple the next generation, this conversation offers handles you can use today.
If this encouraged you, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs this reminder, and leave a review to help others find these hope-filled conversations.

Today we're wrapping up our This Is Me conversation collection through Psalm 139 with one final incredible truth, and it is this I am on God's mind. This truth, well, it's absolutely amazing to me. I mean, think about it. The creator of the universe is thinking about you, you, Tasha, and me, Wendy. He's not just aware of us. I mean, we are constantly on his mind. That's right. That's what Psalm 139, verses 17 and 18 says. He keeps thinking about us. Let's pause for just a second and ask the question: how often do we think about him? Honestly? Well, probably not as much as we should. Same. We all get caught up in life. We get caught up in parenting and work and responsibilities and social media and a thousand other distractions. But here's what's incredible. Even when we don't think about God, he never stops thinking about us. And as parents, that's a truth our kids desperately need to hear. In a world where they can feel invisible, overlooked, or even forgotten, God's word tells them the opposite. That's right. God's word teaches us that he's thinking about us. And that incredible truth is what we're going to talk about and focus on today in the Family Disciple Me podcast. So welcome. We're so glad that you're here with us and spend just a few more moments talking about these truths from Psalm 139. Wendy, I love going to the beach. On a hot summer day, you lay your towel out on the sand as the waves are pounding the shore and set up the umbrella so there's a little bit of shade and you feel the breeze and you hear the sounds, and well, you dig your toes deep into the sand, and those warm grains of sand just cover your toes. That's my idea of a pretty much perfect day. Okay, you have just taken me, transported me right onto a beach. I'm not sure which beach it is, but it's certainly not here in the office. No, it's not here in the office. And it's something I hope to experience again this summer. But really, that imagery of grains of sand that are countless. Well, that's the picture that God gives us when he's teaching us about how much he thinks about us in Psalm chapter 139. Listen to these verses. Verses 17 and 18. How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them. Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. And when I awake, I am still with you. I love that image more than I can even say. As you were talking about the grains of sand, and as I said earlier, I felt like I was transported. I just wonder if I could have shared that verse, that imagery, actually, with my young kids. I never really thought about it like that. Never thought about bringing out a handful of sand. But that might have been really powerful. Isn't that something? I remember being at the beach with my kids, and we were trying to scoop up the sand in our hands. And well, it always felt like we came back with multiple handfuls of sand in our in our clothes, in our swimsuits, and in our towels. And well, that part of the beach may be a little bit annoying, but all of those grains of sand, so small, so countless, all of those are reminders of how big and how many God's thoughts are about us. It's absolutely impossible in that scenario, just sitting here thinking about it, to count each and every one of those grains. I think this is a very tangible way for anyone to understand how many times God is thinking about us. You know, in the book of Deuteronomy, God told his people that he wanted them to talk about him to their kids all along the way, whether they were coming or going or sitting down to eat or going to bed. He wanted them to teach the next generation the truths about who he is and what he has said. And that makes me think about being at the beach and how often when we're at the beach, we're more concerned about the sunscreen than we are about teaching spiritual truths. But what an amazing opportunity that we have talking about grains of sand just along the way as we're sitting there watching the waves or building sand castles or digging our toes in deep in the wet water to say, this is how much God thinks about us more than every single grain of sand here on this beach. It strikes me right now, in the middle of this conversation, in the middle of this podcast, that if God's thoughts about me are more than the grains of sand on a beach, well, how could I ever doubt his care for me? Well, you and I both know we think about what matters to us. So if God is constantly thinking about us, as this scripture says, then we must matter to him an awful lot. Even if we feel unnoticed or unimportant, God never loses sight of us. In Psalm 121, 3 through 4, it tells us, He will not let your foot slip. He who watches over you will not slumber. Indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. That's such powerful truth. God doesn't get distracted, tired, or forgetful. He never stops thinking about us. We can tell our kids, even if people forget about us, God never will. He's thinking about you and me right now. The Bible tells us many other things that he's thinking about us as well, Wendy. Jeremiah 29 11, God says, I know the plans I have for you. Plans to give you a hope and a future. In Philippians 1, 6, he says, He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion. And then Jeremiah 31, 3. I love this one. It says, I have loved you with an everlasting love. This is what's on God's mind, his plans, his faithfulness, and of course, his love for us. And I love reminding my kids and all of those that God's entrusted to me. I love reminding all of us of these truths, especially on days when when someone's discouraged or just feeling sad or having a bad day. We can talk about the fact that the creator of the universe has us on his mind. I mean, let's remind our children, maybe even before you put them to bed, remind them that God is thinking about them right then, at that very moment. We can encourage them to think about God too by reflecting on what he says in his word. And it's important that we're in his word, Wendy. It's important that we seek him in his word to know what he's saying to us and about us and for us. This is the seek him part of the seek him speak him that we always talk about with family disciple me. I think it'd be a great place to start with this poem that we've poured ourselves into. Can you remind us about the poem, Tasha? Yes, absolutely. The poem is first and foremost in first person. I am fully known. I am never alone. I am wonderfully designed, I am on God's mind. But you know, Wendy, when we go from seeking Him and hearing the truths that He has to say to us and about us, then we can turn it around and then we can speak it over our kids. And then it turns out a little bit more like this. You are fully known. You are never alone. You are wonderfully designed. You are on God's mind. This is such a powerful way to end these conversation series. That's right. And the conversations go on from here. As you spend time in God's Word, as you hear Him speak to you, as He tells you more about your identity in Christ, as He reveals truth from His Word to you, we encourage you to turn around and speak that into the next generation. With Family Disciple Me, we have plenty more conversation collections to share with you. But the truth is, anytime, anywhere, any place, as you meet with God, you have the opportunity to make Him known. So friend, as we close this series, I want to close with the blessing from the final verses of Psalm 139 and read them over all of us in a prayer as we move forward. Psalm one hundred and thirty nine verses twenty three and twenty four. Oh search us God and know our hearts. Test us and know our anxious thoughts. See if there's any offensive way in us, and lead us in the way everlasting. O Lord, thank you for the truths from your word. Thank you that we are completely known. We're never alone, that we're wonderfully designed, and that we are on your mind. May all of us live in this truth and walk into sharing it with others today and in the days to come for your glory, for our good, and for the good of all of those entrusted to us. Amen. Amen. Yes. Amen. Yes, that's right. I love that, Wendy. Go with God, friend. Be encouraged, live for Jesus. Until next time.
