Depression in Special Needs Children: quite common, why, what to do and what NOT to. Let’s talk depression mom. I know it sucks. If I could I would bubble wrap my kids and safely store it away in a safe, nice and happy place to protect them from pain, the exclusion, the hurtful comments… But I can’t.

Our kids learn at an early age that they are different. That things won’t come easy, that they might not be able to pursue their dream. Have to give up their favorite sport. If they even can. Now throw in chronic pain and fatigue, frustrations because your classmates and even your family doesn’t get it. Oh and hello hormones. Yay. No, wonder teens with a chronic illness or brains wired differently have a higher chance to get a depression. As a parent it is the most awful experience to witness. Avoidable? No, not always. So, what can you do? What should you say? Let me share my and kids’ experience, insights, and tips.
