Welcome back to episode 55 of The LiveFitNow Podcast. I'm your host, Vicki Brown, and today is a solo episode. And it’s a topic that I cover with clients a lot, and its planning. The episode is "Plan it for Success: The Importance of Planning and Organisation."

You might have heard the saying, "Failing to plan is planning to fail," and when it comes to achieving our health and fitness goals, this couldn't be more true. Having a solid plan and being organised can make all the difference in our journey towards a healthier lifestyle.

Let's start by discussing why planning is so crucial. When we have a clear plan in place, we eliminate guesswork, emotionally triggered decisions and reduce decision fatigue. Planning ahead allows us to set specific goals, break them down into actionable steps, and track our progress effectively. It can help keep us focused, motivated, and accountable.

Planning is a powerful tool that can positively impact all aspects of your life, not just health and fitness. Whether it's personal goals, career aspirations, financial management, or relationships, planning helps create a roadmap for success.

By setting clear objectives, breaking them down into manageable tasks, and creating a timeline, you can effectively work towards your goals. Planning allows you to prioritise your time, resources, and energy, ensuring that you make progress and stay focused.

Moreover, planning helps foster a sense of direction, purpose, and control. It enhances productivity, reduces stress, and boosts confidence. When you have a well-thought-out plan, you can make informed decisions, adapt to unforeseen circumstances, and navigate challenges more effectively.

Planning also allows for better organisation and time management. It helps you allocate time for different activities, eliminate distractions, and make the most of your day. This not only maximises your productivity but also ensures a healthy work-life balance.

Furthermore, planning encourages accountability and self-discipline. When you have a clear plan in place, you are more likely to stay committed to your goals and take the necessary actions to achieve them. It helps you track your progress, celebrate milestones, and learn from any setbacks along the way.

In summary, planning is a valuable tool that can positively impact every aspect of your life. From personal growth to professional success, having a well-structured plan provides clarity, improves organisation, and enhances overall effectiveness. So, embrace the power of planning and unlock your full potential in all areas of life.

Now, you might be wondering, what tools can help you with your planning and organisation? Well, there are several options that you can explore based on your preferences and needs. I recommend trying a few different options to see which ones work best for you.

First, consider using a digital calendar or planner app. These tools allow you to schedule your workouts, meal prepping sessions, and self-care activities. You can set reminders, create to-do lists, and even share your calendar with accountability partners or family members for added support. Time blocking the activities you need to make time for throughout the week will help set you up for success. Especially when you are trying to build new habits into your lifestyle. You need to know when you are going to do them, not hope you’ll find time for them. They will usually become easier more quickly and you’ll be able to habit stack with other daily activities if you plan your days and overall week.

Another useful tool is a physical planner or journal. There's just something about writing things down that helps with clarity and commitment. You can find planners specifically designed for health and fitness tracking or customise a regular one with sections for your goals, meal plans, and exercise routines. A plain notebook will also do the job, keep it simple, write it down and then act on it. At the end of the week before planning the next it is worth looking back on what went well and the things that didn’t. Did you give yourself enough time? Too many tasks or not enough? A moment of review can help you get better at planning for the future, and the more efficient you can become at it the better.

Lastly, don't underestimate the power of a good old-fashioned whiteboard or bulletin board. Use it to display your goals, motivational quotes, and your weekly plan. It serves as a visual reminder and keeps you on track throughout the day. It can be helpful to have things set out on a board on the fridge or a central location in the house, your family and friends can help support you too, you may even inspire them to make some positive changes to their lifestyles too. It’s easy to get distracted from your longer term goals and having reminders can help you.

Planning and organisation may feel like an extra thing to do, and it is. But this small sacrifice of time can ultimately save you a lot of time throughout the week and more importantly it can have a hugely positive impact on your overall health and wellbeing which of all things, I think is worth a small sacrifice of time. I’d also like to take this opportunity to remind you that it doesn’t mean everything will go to plan but you increase your odds of a more productive week. And it does take time and effort to stick. Hopefully it will eventually become a part of your routine but it will take some patience and discipline to build that consistency that will ultimately help you build the healthier habits for life.
