Episode 9: CTE & Concussion - Sports' Biggest Challenges
Show Notes

In this episode Aidan and James explore the world of neuroscience by taking a look at CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy) and concussions. Concussions arise in a number of sports, with athletes who partake in contact sports being the worse affected. We explain what a concussion is and how they can lead to the onset of the neurodegenerative disease CTE.

We play close attention to the recent rule changes in the sport of Rugby with examples from the 2021 6 Nations Competition and relate these observations to American Football and the action taken by the NFL.

This episode also explores the importance of medical imaging in these pathologies as prevention and early intervention really are the best treatment options.

We see the return of the Giant of the Week section, with Dr Bennet Omalu - be sure to find his story on our social media pages (below) and drop us a follow while you're there!
