Best of JJ Show - EP49 - Hunger. What is it good for? Absolutely...NOTHING!
[00:00:00] JJ: [00:00:00] It's the Jeff Johnson show brought to you by O T e@ofthisearthglobal.com of this earth. global.com clothing connection. Okay.
[00:00:21] Greetings, or as we say it right here in the South, Hey y'all Hey, you know what time it is? It's time for another edition. The Jeff Johnson show a real, genuine, authentic podcast where I get to reconnect with the people and places and events of my hometown area. Charlotte, North Carolina. All right, everybody let's get this week show started off.
[00:00:44] Yes, yes. Yes. Your boy JJ, in his secret layer. In the basement of his house in his stew, Dayo wishing each and every one of you, a wonderful holiday period, Merry Christmas, happy holiday, [00:01:00] all of that stuff. Y'all, I'm telling you what we have gone through a lot heavenly, but it's not over. Yeah. Some of us have jobs.
[00:01:12] Some of us have great things that are going on and there are beautiful things out there that are. Happening in this world, the virus is going to get a shot in the arm because the vaccinations and the, the, the, the formula for that has been pretty much done. And we're going to be getting that into the arms of people very soon.
[00:01:34] Hopefully with the new regime in power, things will come back to a, more of a normalcy. But even within all of that folks, something is still. Really, really on my mind and the mind of a lot of people in this country, I'm talking about hunger, hunger insecurity. I'm overwhelmed with the [00:02:00] stories, the images and the things that I see all over the country in Charlotte, in Gastonia, in Lincolnton, in boon, in Spartanburg, all over the Metro line of region.
[00:02:13] Believe it, somebody right next to you next door to you is probably a victim of hunger and you don't even know it. I know we have good hearts out there. I know that folks that listen to my show, friends of mine, we want people to be okay. We want families to be fed. We want children to be fed. And that is why I am dedicating a lot of these next show's coming up to things like that.
[00:02:42] I want to ask you to donate, volunteer, do whatever you can to help feed people during the holiday season and beyond, because guess what? After you feed them during the Christmas time [00:03:00] and holidays, the need doesn't stop. Hunger is always going to be around and that's a crying, damn shame that in this country of plenty, people are going hungry.
[00:03:11] So I want to just kind of give you a quick update on a UN organization that I'm doing some work with on a lot of different levels, but they're a huge food distribution organization, feeding America, feeding America serves so many folks across the country, folks in our area as well. Second harvest food bank, Metro line of food bank, all of those different places like that.
[00:03:38] Get food from feeding America, as well as your wonderful donations. I want you to go to their website, feeding america.org and donate. Find out how you can help. Here is a real story of hunger about a man and his family. The man's name is [00:04:00] Lamont. And what he's been going through and how actually he got to go through the wall and he got help from somebody he turned right back around and help somebody else too.
[00:04:14] So check out this story from feeding America, real stories of hunger. The gentleman's name is Lamont. You're listening to the Jeff Johnson show.
[00:04:29] Lamont: [00:04:29] A little girl handed me her report card and she told me my grades are now better because I get breakfast every morning from the food pantry and it broke my heart. No kid should have to worry about. What they're going to eat before they go to school. My mom had to work two and three part-time jobs just to make ends meet.
[00:04:49] And once I started having a family, I didn't want to live that way. I used to work for cable company that was out in the city doing a job. And I took a piece of co-ax through my eye. [00:05:00] I lost a significant amount of eyesight and I was left unemployed. Things took a turn for the worst for us. You have to decide whether you buy groceries or you put money on the light bill, you power your house.
[00:05:13] Do you heat your house? Or you put food in your kid's stomach? Some days me and my wife went without eating just to make sure the kids had enough. One thing you want to never do is be able to not provide for your family. And my life was just insistent on, you know? Yes, you have. Provided for us for years, but we need help right now because I used to receive assistance here at the food pantry.
[00:05:36] And I am now actually a director here. The best thing that happened for me was getting hurt on my job and getting me back to the things that I love to do. And that's helping families, seeing that light come back on once a family has been broken down. This is amazing feeling and there's no paycheck that can compensate for that.
[00:05:56] Families do fall on hard times. We're all could be one [00:06:00] paycheck away from being in their situation as well.
[00:06:11] JJ: [00:06:11] That's a real story from Lamont, ladies and gentlemen, and that's a real story all over. Our country all over our state, all over our cities and towns, you can make a difference, go to your local food bank. Find it on the internet. All you got to do is do a Google search places, like say in Gaston County, you've got some great food banks there that you can do some lot of good stuff for food pantries.org, Gaston County.
[00:06:44] They do a lot. Second harvest food bank of Metrolina. Second harvest Metro, atlanta.org, loaves and fishes.org. I mean, they're out there, go out there and find them feeding [00:07:00] america.org is a huge organization that even provides food to these food banks. Think about it, all these people, helping whoever they can.
[00:07:11] It's time to stop this nonsense. It's time to stop seeing people hungry in America. And you have that opportunity. Donate, volunteer, just be a person. Cause I know y'all are, cause you listening to me. And I want to thank you for that. I'm Jeff Johnson. You've been listening to this show of me, ranting and raving, a little bit about hunger and everything.
[00:07:36] And I thank you from the bottom of my heart. We're going to see you again next week. Take care of yourselves, take care of each other. See ya.
