Alison Edgar is known as the Entrepreneur's Godmother, a successful international speaker and the author of the best selling book Secrets of Successful Sale.  She explains that sales is actually about listening. And really understanding what your client needs, not what your client wants, what they need

She said:

  • I was diagnosed with dyslexia
  • Starting my own business, to teach people to sell the way that I do from my heart and from my passion and with a genuine love
  • So a lot of people don't like to put themselves into a sales situation in case they get rejected
  • I needed a name for the brand that works with startups and micro-businesses are Alison Edgar was a little bit dull
  • You are the Entrepreneur's Godmother. And then I looked at godmother and what it mean and it's a person of influence in an organization or in someone's life
  • I think it's important to stand out for the right reasons
  • You have to look at standing out and it's okay, you're not going to be able to please everyone, you're not going to sell to everyone anyway
  • My industries are so varied from tech to product to service, but the sales process, so in the book, secrets of successful sales, the methodology is around behaviours
  • Sales to me doesn't come from after a piece of paper, it comes from a genuine interest in your customer
  • What then I normally do is I would listen to a call, or I would get one of my customers to talk me through what happened. 
  • And then we coach through the section. So the process starts off with being organized and doing your research
