I came there to"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":225.21,"endTime":228.57,"body":"help build the remote culture."},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":225.21,"endTime":228.57,"body":"And I joined at there as an"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":228.57,"endTime":231.33,"body":"engineering leader. And that's,"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":228.57,"endTime":231.33,"body":"that's a real coup that I"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":231.33,"endTime":237.78,"body":"discovered the joy of coaching."},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":231.33,"endTime":237.78,"body":"So I was a director, and really"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":237.78,"endTime":240.84,"body":"enjoying cultivate, as a"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":237.78,"endTime":240.84,"body":"director of engineering. One of"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":240.9,"endTime":245.28,"body":"the thing I enjoyed the most was"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":240.9,"endTime":245.28,"body":"cultivating the next generation"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":245.28,"endTime":251.13,"body":"of leaders. And at some point,"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":245.28,"endTime":251.13,"body":"find out that after a reorg that"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":251.13,"endTime":256.26,"body":"I had only a single teammate"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":251.13,"endTime":256.26,"body":"again. And there was a guy on"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":256.26,"endTime":259.23,"body":"the team wanted to come in and"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":256.26,"endTime":259.23,"body":"train managers. So it was okay,"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":259.23,"endTime":262.65,"body":"this is great. I'm going to"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":259.23,"endTime":262.65,"body":"mentor you coach you that's"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":262.68,"endTime":265.26,"body":"that's what I liked most and"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":262.68,"endTime":265.26,"body":"then started offering that"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":265.38,"endTime":269.46,"body":"internally. Because we had a lot"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":265.38,"endTime":269.46,"body":"of first time injuring managers."},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":269.76,"endTime":273.39,"body":"And continuing doing that over"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":269.76,"endTime":273.39,"body":"the years and my team grew"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":273.39,"endTime":280.74,"body":"again. And five years ago, I was"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":273.39,"endTime":280.74,"body":"again leading the largest"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":281.07,"endTime":285.99,"body":"engineering department over"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":281.07,"endTime":285.99,"body":"there and somehow realized that"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":286.02,"endTime":289.95,"body":"the operational aspect of the"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":286.02,"endTime":289.95,"body":"role were not so silly to me."},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":290.34,"endTime":295.5,"body":"And that's when I kind of knew"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":290.34,"endTime":295.5,"body":"that career. So I was able fortunate"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":300.0,"endTime":304.38,"body":"enough to be able to transition"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":304.41,"endTime":309.75,"body":"such a role at the Roku and then"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":304.41,"endTime":309.75,"body":"Salesforce Iroko as part of"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":309.75,"endTime":314.43,"body":"Salesforce. So at some point got"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":309.75,"endTime":314.43,"body":"responsible to help with"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":314.67,"endTime":319.95,"body":"engineering culture at the, at"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":314.67,"endTime":319.95,"body":"one of the department there. And"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":321.15,"endTime":327.42,"body":"last year, there were two"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":321.15,"endTime":327.42,"body":"layoffs at at Salesforce. And there's a"},{"speaker":"Aaron Moncur","startTime":359.1,"endTime":362.28,"body":"difference between doing the"},{"speaker":"Aaron Moncur","startTime":359.1,"endTime":362.28,"body":"technical work, the product"},{"speaker":"Aaron Moncur","startTime":362.28,"endTime":366.18,"body":"development, and the"},{"speaker":"Aaron Moncur","startTime":362.28,"endTime":366.18,"body":"organizational growth. And this is"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":394.5,"endTime":399.33,"body":"where cultural development is"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":399.36,"endTime":404.64,"body":"very important. Because the main"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":399.36,"endTime":404.64,"body":"challenge with scaling fast, is"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":404.64,"endTime":411.33,"body":"that and I experienced this both"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":404.64,"endTime":411.33,"body":"analytical and Heroku. We, you"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":411.33,"endTime":414.57,"body":"know, when you grow fast, you"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":411.33,"endTime":414.57,"body":"kind of you can double the size"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":414.57,"endTime":418.77,"body":"of the team, and very quickly,"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":414.57,"endTime":418.77,"body":"which means that after, you"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":418.77,"endTime":424.23,"body":"know, six months or a year,"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":418.77,"endTime":424.23,"body":"there's more people who are who"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":424.23,"endTime":427.05,"body":"are new to the company than the"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":424.23,"endTime":427.05,"body":"people who have been there for a"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":427.05,"endTime":431.46,"body":"long time. And if the culture is"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":427.05,"endTime":431.46,"body":"not strong and clear, and you're"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":431.46,"endTime":438.09,"body":"able to onboard the people in"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":431.46,"endTime":438.09,"body":"the new culture, you end up with"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":438.09,"endTime":441.06,"body":"a dilution of culture, because"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":438.09,"endTime":441.06,"body":"there's kind of a gap. And then"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":441.06,"endTime":443.94,"body":"everyone comes with their"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":441.06,"endTime":443.94,"body":"previous experience, which can"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":443.94,"endTime":448.2,"body":"be enriching, but can also but"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":443.94,"endTime":448.2,"body":"up too often, it becomes"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":448.2,"endTime":451.2,"body":"confusing, you know, it's kind"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":448.2,"endTime":451.2,"body":"of it because then you you're"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":451.23,"endTime":455.64,"body":"kind of, it's not done"},{"speaker":"Francis Lacoste","startTime":451.23,"endTime":455.64,"body":"deliberately.
