CDs came out"},{"speaker":"Tom Wilke","startTime":289.74,"endTime":293.97,"body":"were invented around 1982 or so"},{"speaker":"Tom Wilke","startTime":289.74,"endTime":293.97,"body":"by Philips and became the"},{"speaker":"Tom Wilke","startTime":293.97,"endTime":299.58,"body":"standard for for music in the"},{"speaker":"Tom Wilke","startTime":293.97,"endTime":299.58,"body":"80s and became ubiquitous"},{"speaker":"Tom Wilke","startTime":299.58,"endTime":303.99,"body":"eventually. That data storage is"},{"speaker":"Tom Wilke","startTime":299.58,"endTime":303.99,"body":"one type of data storage."},{"speaker":"Tom Wilke","startTime":304.41,"endTime":308.16,"body":"Magnetic data storage was the"},{"speaker":"Tom Wilke","startTime":304.41,"endTime":308.16,"body":"competitor to that. And"},{"speaker":"Tom Wilke","startTime":315.96,"endTime":318.54,"body":"optical data storage was viewed"},{"speaker":"Tom Wilke","startTime":315.96,"endTime":318.54,"body":"as it's going to be the next"},{"speaker":"Tom Wilke","startTime":318.54,"endTime":321.45,"body":"thing, eventually all data"},{"speaker":"Tom Wilke","startTime":318.54,"endTime":321.45,"body":"stores are going to be optical."},{"speaker":"Tom Wilke","startTime":321.45,"endTime":324.24,"body":"That was the thought, because"},{"speaker":"Tom Wilke","startTime":321.45,"endTime":324.24,"body":"the data densities were much"},{"speaker":"Tom Wilke","startTime":324.33,"endTime":330.42,"body":"higher. And it was due"},{"speaker":"Tom Wilke","startTime":333.99,"endTime":338.73,"body":"to be likely to completely"},{"speaker":"Tom Wilke","startTime":338.73,"endTime":343.53,"body":"replace magnetic data storage"},{"speaker":"Tom Wilke","startTime":338.73,"endTime":343.53,"body":"within 20 years or so. So solid"},{"speaker":"Tom Wilke","startTime":421.41,"endTime":424.71,"body":"state is now taking large parts"},{"speaker":"Tom Wilke","startTime":421.41,"endTime":424.71,"body":"of the data storage market,"},{"speaker":"Tom Wilke","startTime":424.71,"endTime":427.2,"body":"especially those that were taken"},{"speaker":"Tom Wilke","startTime":424.71,"endTime":427.2,"body":"up by some of the things I"},{"speaker":"Tom Wilke","startTime":427.2,"endTime":431.13,"body":"worked on back in the 80s and"},{"speaker":"Tom Wilke","startTime":427.2,"endTime":431.13,"body":"90s namely, Flexible Media,"},{"speaker":"Tom Wilke","startTime":431.88,"endTime":436.89,"body":"Iomega was seen as zip drive"},{"speaker":"Tom Wilke","startTime":431.88,"endTime":436.89,"body":"back in the day. And that data"},{"speaker":"Tom Wilke","startTime":436.89,"endTime":441.09,"body":"source type was on a flexible"},{"speaker":"Tom Wilke","startTime":436.89,"endTime":441.09,"body":"lips like a floppy disk.
