When does iTunes update?

When does Buzzsprout send my updates to iTunes?

iTunes does not receive updates from Buzzsprout or any podcast hosting services. For whatever reason, iTunes is set up so podcast hosting providers (Buzzsprout) cannot send updates directly to their main listings. Instead, they “pull” any updates from the individual RSS feeds every 24 hours.

What Buzzsprout does do for you: Buzzsprout immediately updates your RSS feed with any new episodes as soon as you publish them in the software and provides everything iTunes needs to update their listings as soon as they make the “pull.”

How long does it take for iTunes to update my podcast listing?

iTunes updates their main podcast listings every 24 hours. While this is the rule, we have seen instances where they take a little longer to make the pull.

If you’re experiencing an issue where your podcast listing hasn’t been updated in more than 72 hours, contact iTunes.

Is there anything I can do to get iTunes to update faster?

Unfortunately, no. iTunes doesn’t provide podcast producers or hosting providers with a tool that alerts them when an update has been made to an RSS feed. The good news is the delay doesn’t affect any of your subscribers. They will receive the updates immediately after they’re published in Buzzsprout.

Can I change my iTunes artwork?

Yes! Your show’s main artwork in Buzzsprout is the artwork iTunes publishes on your listing (since it’s in your RSS feed).

To change your artwork: 1. Log into your Buzzsprout account 2. Click on “Update Your Podcast info.” 3. Delete your current artwork 4. Upload a your new image.

Buzzsprout will immediately change your RSS feed to reflect the changes, but iTunes may take between 24 and 48 hours to update their main listing.

Remember, iTunes has a 1400x1400 artwork specification.

I just updated my show’s description, why hasn’t it shown up in iTunes?

iTunes takes at least 24 hours to update its main listing. In some cases, we’ve seen them take longer (48-72 hours) to update podcast info like artwork and description.

If you’re experiencing an issue where your podcast listing hasn’t been updated in more than 72 hours, contact iTunes.

I published my episode yesterday, why isn’t it in iTunes?

iTunes takes at least 24 hours to update its main listing with any new updates to your podcast. Not to worry though, the delay does not affect your subscribers, as they will get the updates immediately after you publish them in Buzzsprout.

If you’re experiencing an issue where your podcast listing hasn’t been updated in more than 72 hours, contact iTunes.

How can I test if my episode is in iTunes?

Since iTunes can take a while to update its main listing, subscribe to your own show if you want to see how the episode appears to your subscribers.

You can subscribe to your show by visiting your iTunes listing in the iTunes store and selecting “Subscribe” directly underneath your show’s cover artwork.

Do the people who subscribe to my podcast have to wait for iTunes to update before they will get my latest episode?

Nope. Anyone who subscribes to your show will immediately receive your latest episode as soon as it’s published in Buzzsprout.
