The Wankers have been all over the place lately, but one place in particular, is East River Bar watching the 2nd division Bundesliga team, FC St. Pauli with the East River Pirates. At the helm of the official supporters' group, Shawn and Sören (Andrea never got that name right), who graciously came to share a little bit of what their club means to them. Anti-fascist, very german and a little punk rock, FC St. Pauli supporters were born in direct opposition to growing nazi sentiment in Europe in the 80s. Today, the list for season tickets is thousands long, and they boast the most female supporters across European soccer. Some of the most welcoming soccer fans in the city, they use their fandom for good. Give a listen, and drop by East River Bar to check out their core beliefs, as well as their supporters club family they work hard to foster. And as always, you've got subs if you need 'em.
