Tania is a māmā-mum of three, kuia-grandma, tuakana-sister, aunty and a strong leader who is the driving force behind our Real Talk kaupapa.
Heavily experienced in the school of life and hard knocks, Tania has come from not so humble beginnings to create a movement that inspires and empowers people all over Aotearoa to speak their truth. In her words ‘It is important to me to utilise this platform as it is intended – to encourage people to speak their truth, to encourage, to motivate, to inspire and to empower all those we connect with. If our kōrero-talk can change or save one life, then it’s all worth it.’
What to expect in each episode REAL, open and honest conversations with people who have seen it all. The subjects covered in our kōrero start with but are not limited to the subjects listed below:
*Suicide and triggers and coping mechanisms
*Mental Health awareness
*Sexual & physical abuse
*Gangs & domestic violence
*Drug and alcohol addiction
*Teen pregnancy & pregnancy loss

Real Talk NZ - We are helping to break generational cycles. We are all survivors of traumatic experiences, so we are passionate about using our platform to change the narrative, especially for our rangatahi-youth. We are helping to shine light on traumatic experiences and normalise discussing these once ‘taboo’ topics. Through this, we show others who might be going through a similar path right now that they are not alone. Because when we speak, we heal, when we speak, we free ourselves, when we speak, we help others heal. We encourage everyone to speak their truth because people don't understand what you've been through unless you are real, raw and honest about your experiences.
Our Real Talk kauapapa-events happen regularly throughout Aotearoa and all are welcome. For more info on how to get to an event visit https://realtalknz.co.nz/

The Real Talk NZ Podcast
Elise Niu at Real Talk Taitoko / Levin
Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa, nau mai hoki mai ki te kaupapa kōrero Real Talk.
I’m Tania Carr, and today in this episode, you are going to hear the REAL kōrero from Elise Niu aka (E).
Elise was one of our very first kaikōrero at our Real Talk event in Pōneke back in August 2020, and she took the stage for us again, 2 years later at Real Talk Mō Ngā Rangatahi Taitoko – Levin.
Elise shares with us her highs and lows through her challenging life journey, and how having a strong whānau unit helped her to get through some of the most difficult challenges that life has thrown her way.
She shares how being aligned with her passion and working toward her goals – all things health and fitness, has led to running her successful Functional Hiit gym in Kapiti. Elise brings such a beautiful energy and inspired so many rangatahi on the night with her ability to see the light at the end of an often dark tunnel. We love you E, for all that you are and all that you do, keeping being you!
Here is Elise’s story...
Elise took the Real Talk stage as one of our very first Real Talk speakers back in August 2020.
Founder of Elise Niu Wellness, a Personal Trainer, Gym Owner Motivational Speaker & Fitness Entrepreneur.
She has always been sporty, & grew up playing representative sports in Tennis, Touch Football, Athletics & Netball. Elise remembers as young as 9 years of age she had a passion for exercise, movement & training and she would quite often create opportunities to exercise.
Being a Mother of 5, she knows too well the importance of taking care of her mind & body for her mental health. Many women lose sight of themselves while raising a family & that is why she is so passionate to help women get fit, strong and confident, & feel healthier & happier.
Elise Niu and her husband Ray may be a power couple, running a gym while juggling various projects with raising a happy family, but their journey to get here has been far from perfect. While living overseas, Ray spiralled into a gambling habit that lost the couple tens of thousands of dollars, followed with a devastating drug addiction. It was Elise who saved him.
