Speaker 2:Hey guys, welcome back to another episode of the Pelvic PT Rising podcast with Jesse and Nicole Cozine. Hey, nicole, well, day before Thanksgiving, we're putting the podcast out a day early because we figured you guys probably would be hanging out with family doing some other stuff and not listening to a podcast. So this is coming out on Wednesday instead of Thursday. Nicole, what are you thankful for here?
Speaker 1:Okay, I am really well, I'm thankful for a course. All of you listeners. Honestly, I really am totally grateful to anyone that is tuning into this podcast If you're an OG listener, if you're a new listener, if you're somewhere in between very, very, very grateful that you take the time to listen to Jesse and I ramble on about pelvic health and pelvic health business. But I was reflecting on what I'm very thankful for and I am so thankful for those green things that you put in the lid of your Starbucks coffee to help it not spill.
Speaker 2:Nicole.
Speaker 1:When I use them.
Speaker 2:You spill your coffee all the time. In fact, guys, when she makes coffee in the morning, I ask her does she want me to just pour a little bit on her so she can get it out of the way before we get in the car?
Speaker 1:I really do I have like this is like the curse of my dad, for sure. And then we always are like God damn it and it turns into this huge cluster in the morning. However, when I actually remember to ask the Starbucks people for these little green things, I feel like I'm always like man. This is such a brilliant thing. It's actually kind of annoying now that you have to ask for them. They don't just put them in your drink anymore.
Speaker 2:Okay, well, I know what I'm getting you for Christmas A thousand of those green coffee plugs.
Speaker 1:By the way, you guys, let me just tell you a quick story about Jesse's first Christmas gift to me. Do you remember this?
Speaker 2:Oh, I do.
Speaker 1:I think it's better, because you never better give it anything to me like this again. Jesse was so proud of himself I'm not joking you guys. The first Christmas that he got me a present which was actually relatively soon, I feel like you didn't get me it restart dating like in October. We got back from Africa maybe November, so you didn't. Well, I don't feel like we exchanged Christmas gifts that first year.
Speaker 2:Well, technically, we've never exchanged Christmas gifts.
Speaker 1:Okay, here we go. Okay, no, let's go ahead. I'm not sure, I'm not sure.
Speaker 2:You're jumping over Thanksgiving straight to Christmas stories, but by all means continue.
Speaker 1:I mean, doesn't that what everyone does? It's like the American way. So a freaking Jesse you guys gives me a fucking printer. A printer Very first Christmas gift that we're like actually exchanging. We'd been together for over a year at this point and he gives me a fucking printer.
Speaker 2:It's so bad I stand by it. It was an HP, had a gray warranty. It was a color, 25 pages per minute. Nicole had been not having a printer and then running around to like FedEx to try to get documents copied. I was like what are you doing? Here is a printer, you're welcome, your biggest problem in life is solved and it calls. For some reason still thinks that that was not a great gift.
Speaker 1:How many years ago is that? That was so long ago. It was probably like Christmas, like 2009 or 10 or whatever.
Speaker 2:Printers were brand new back then. That's a long time. This was new technology.
Speaker 1:So bad. Anyways, why are we talking about this?
Speaker 2:Oh.
Speaker 1:I am grateful for those green straw things Go, those green hole fillers.
Speaker 2:Which is that's what we talk about a lot on these podcasts. The green hole fillers everybody.
Speaker 1:The hole fillers Looks like it should be like a public floor PT team.
Speaker 2:You have a copy plug.
Speaker 1:Oh, goodness Okay.
Speaker 2:Jesse, anything else you'd like to add?
Speaker 1:No, Jesse, what are you grateful for?
Speaker 2:Well, I'm also very grateful for all of you guys who listen. I know we couldn't have really anticipated where this thing was going to go when we started it almost three years ago more than three years ago and to be 400 episodes in and closing in on 800,000 downloads and just it really is. It kind of blows us away and it's really pretty humbling. I'm pretty thankful for, like, the time travel-ness of podcasting. So when this comes out like I'm going to be on a beach in Mexico with a margarita.
Speaker 1:That is true.
Speaker 2:That's pretty cool. And it's pretty cool. I feel like I'm time traveling when we do this podcast, because we record it now but it comes out then and Things happen in between and we don't know, and I'm a big sci-fi nerd anyway. So this feels like I'm traveling in the DeLorean to the future, where you guys are hearing this and I'm sitting there having a drink at the pool bar. That's pretty cool.
Speaker 1:That is do so cool, jesse. Good job.
Speaker 2:Okay, now we don't even want to get into the gift-giving conversation, guys, so let's skip that and talk about what we're gonna talk about today, which is Pelvicon over again.
Speaker 1:Pelvicon Okay, this is all of the things that you need to know for Black Friday period. Black Friday sales happening. Pelvicon 2024 happening. This is the episode. We get to know all of the details, all of the things, questions, all answered so you can make your decision For if you're gonna be on the Pelvicon train or not.
Speaker 2:Yep. So if you have no interest in Pelvicon, then you've gotten a couple good minutes of witty, banter and repartee and you're welcome to go and enjoy your turkey and Thanksgiving. But for those of you guys who are gonna do Pelvicon, who are thinking about it, we're on the fence. Who wanted to give you guys all of the details. So, nicole, here I go. Dates September 27th and 28th. There will be a pre-con the day before and a post-con the day after for anybody who is able to stay in town a little bit longer.
Speaker 1:And if you're not looking in front of a calendar right now, 27th and 28th is a Friday, saturday, which means pre-con will be the Thursday, the day before, and post-con will be Sunday, the day after the price for the conference is 775.
Speaker 2:You will get $100 off of that when you order on Black Friday. Also, make sure, if you're planning on going, that you are on the wait list. You will get early priority access if you're on the wait list and, as we never know how quickly this is gonna fill out, that could be important. So head to Pelvicon comm if you haven't already get on the wait list. We've got 900 ish of you guys on there already, which we're really, really pumped about, and we had a Sizable number of you guys who are at Pelvicon 2023 actually get their tickets before they even left Atlanta for Pelvicon 2024 which, by the way, we're so grateful and humbled by that before we even announced speakers, before we even did anything other than have a date for you guys, you guys were signing up and saying like, hey, let's do this again. This is gonna be incredible. That blows us away that trust that you guys place in us, and we do not take that for granted. We are gonna make Pelvicon 2024 absolutely incredible.
Speaker 1:So, jesse, let's talk freakin speaker lineup. Like you said, some of the people signed up without even hearing this. So now that I'm sure that they heard these freakin speakers, they must have been dying, because I sure as shit was when everybody said yes to us, just can. I are like so freakin stoked to have these people we can't even believe it so back by popular demand. So some Pelvicon 2023 speakers. There's three of them that are returning. We have Taryn Hallam, who is from Australia, blew everybody's minds at Pelvicon 2023. We'll continue to blow your mind on a different topic in 2024. We've got Yeni Abraham, also talking about on different topics for 2024. She's amazing fertility specialist and just really pushing the field forward in areas that we can expand into subspecialty areas. And, of course, michelle Lyons, which we can hear Michelle Lyons talk about anything for any length of time, but she is certainly going to be back on the Pelvicon stage for the third year in a row. And those are the returning Pelvicon 2023 speakers. And then this is where you're gonna lose your shit. If you haven't heard about the speakers yet, you've probably been living under a rock. They're worthy of going over again.
Speaker 1:But the five new Pelvicon 2024 speakers that are coming are Shanae DeFour, who is the in addition to many other things that she's done. She is the one who authored this study with some other folks on the stat that we all say 95% of people with back pain have pelvic floor dysfunction. She is amazing. We have Bill Taylor, who I mean of the list of things that he's done it's like, oh, what haven't you done, bill? We should actually put that on your resume instead. Neuroscience expert, ballet expert, dance fitness Physio has his own practice. Amazing. Alex Hill, who is one of the very few people who are duly board certified in both women's health, pelvic health and oncology. She's done some amazing work, published author, all of the things. I'm really excited to have her.
Speaker 1:We have Grania Donnelly, who you may know as the co-author of the Return to Running Guidelines. She's also done some amazing work in pelvic girdle pain, return to exercise and sport. Phenomenal speaker, phenomenal person. So excited to have her.
Speaker 1:And last but not least, somebody that just makes this lineup absolutely out of control, is Joe Milios, who has probably single-handedly changed the men's physiotherapy game in the entire world.
Speaker 1:Has done some really excellent work on post-prostatectomy Peyronie's disease so many things. Can you freaking believe that lineup You're going to get to see them all on one stage over one weekend and it's just going to be so great. And the cool thing, one of the cool things about Pelvicon is that Jessica and I were very intentional about who we bring on and the overall breadth of topics that we cover, to make sure that there's something for everybody in there. The other thing that we do very intentionally is that we do not have these speakers fly in, fly out. They're there for the whole weekend. They are just amazing people and so they're super fun to hang out with and you're going to have to hang out with them, have a glass of wine with them at happy hours, see them sitting in the back. They are just as excited to learn from the other speakers as they are to speak, and those are the kinds of people that we bring to Pelvicon.
Speaker 2:So let's blow through, Nicole, a couple of the frequently asked questions and make sure that everybody who is ready to register on Black Friday is comfortable doing that. Let's start with a big picture one. Should I use my conned money for Pelvicon?
Speaker 1:This is an interesting conundrum that many people are in. Quite frankly, I feel like a lot of us get some form of conned money from our employer. I think that's wonderful. I also think that there's a couple of things that we want to talk about here. There's a difference between a course and a conference, and I know that sometimes, because we have this lump sum money of your conned money, that sometimes we feel like we have to choose.
Speaker 1:But I will say this, man, this conference ticks a shit ton of boxes to really change your practice, and so, while it isn't a course and I know that there's so many course junkies out there that really want to dive deep into one topic this is going to be a game-changing conference. You're going to hear from a lot of different speakers. This might be your only chance. Well, this for sure will be your only chance to hear all of these speakers under one area for over one weekend. But certainly sometimes the only time you're going to be hearing them is speaking the US, and so it's just like a really amazing opportunity that, if you can swing it, man, even if you don't have conned money or you only have a limited budget, I would highly consider going out of pocket for this one, or, thinking of it in a different way, to be able to attend this year.
Speaker 2:Yeah, igniting your career, doing it something for your own personal professional development, instead of just saying, hey, how can I use my employer's funds with this? And I will say I mean just as an outsider to your guys' field, just in terms of relative value. To me, like, looking at this, it just seems like an absolute no-brainer. It costs less than most in-person conned courses, but it features eight of the most brilliant minds in pelvic health, literally from across the world that are coming in that you actually get to learn from the people themselves and not necessarily a TA or somebody who's maybe repeating a course that was created by somebody else. I don't know of any conned course that's due on breakfast beforehand and happy hours afterwards. You're getting a printed manual in color which seems like it's gone the way of the dodo bird because of COVID evidently Everything's due to COVID now.
Speaker 2:Right To me. If you compare side by side, it's not even a comparison. So obviously that's us. We're biased, we put this thing together, but we're damn proud of the value that it is and really feel like it's an absolute game changer in your career. If you really think about what's going to be the thing that changes something, being in this community, knowing other pelvic rehab providers, getting the inspiration that you're going to be getting at Pelican I think it's just incredible.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I mean Jessica, and I really invite extension. Andrew and Jesse we really curate a true experience. This isn't just sitting at a conference and hearing people blather on about their research. This is a different experience. Everybody that's gone can attest to that. If you are coming back, we're so happy to have you back and it will be the best Pelican yet. If you're someone that hasn't experienced Pelican yet, I am so envious of you that you haven't been. It's really great and we just take the creation of this experience so seriously. Jessica and I sit for hours and hours and hours and hours over the course of the year making sure that this is like the most epic experience you'll ever have. So we know that there it can be quote unquote expensive and we do not take it lightly that that is objectively a lot of money for most folks. But, man, the value that we bring is going to be just unmatched.
Speaker 2:Couple other little things there. There is a payment plan this year, so if you'd like to spread those over, take a price over three months. You can absolutely do that. You can find all the details at alvaconcom. Now, Nicole, here's one that we get a fair bit from some of our more spontaneous folks, but it's a year in advance.
Speaker 1:It is. Actually it's less than a year in advance, but who's counting? So I would say this there's just as many people being like, oh my God, it's a year in advance and what am I going to be doing at that time? I have no idea. I'm envious of your life, you know. I feel like there's just as many people that are like wish it was already planned out two years in advance. So you know, the thing is is that we understand that there are seasons of life some of you that might seem like an eternity, others is going to. You're going to blink and it's going to be here.
Speaker 1:The bottom line is that it's like a decent amount of time away right now, and I know it can feel like that especially with the holidays. But I would just encourage you that if you decide you want to go, then you just prioritize it. You prioritize it on your calendar. It's like a wedding, right. So it's like you know you wouldn't scoff at a friend giving you a year's notice for a wedding. You just decide to go so and then, if something else comes up, you're like sorry, can't do that that weekend and you can plan around it. So I know it's hard for some people that are planners and like they. You know, I don't know. I don't know what I'm going to be doing, so I'm not sure. But man, just pony up, put it on the calendar, make a commitment to yourself that you're going to do everything possible to be able to go, and that's it. It will most likely work out.
Speaker 2:Yes. So last things on the details here what's included in your ticket? Your ticket includes the full conference, all eight speakers. Most of them are doing two talks. We've got a little bit of a change up in some of the order stuff for you this year. We'll share more about that once we get a little bit closer. But you'll get breakfast, a continental breakfast, both days. You'll get a happy hour both days. You'll get a manual, a swag bag and everything else that comes with being there at Pelican. So that's what's included in your ticket.
Speaker 2:When you are ready to register, make sure you know your name Hopefully that goes without saying your credentials Hopefully that also goes without saying. But if you're one of those people who has 11 billion letters after your name, make sure you got them all written down because you're going to put them in, because those are going on your badge when you go to the place. Your physical address, your credit card and your pronouns. All of those are going to be in your registration. Now, if you are busy on Black Friday, if you've got family stuff, if you're working, you can have a significant other, a friend, somebody else register. That's the information that you will need to give them. So make sure they have all of that stuff. Also, I don't know why this goes. This is a thing, but please put in an email that you know the password to, that you check, that you read.
Speaker 2:Every year we get a handful of folks not a handful way too many people way too many people who are Writing us and saying they Registered with the wrong email address or they can't find any of the emails that are coming in. 99.9% of the time it's because of either a typo in their email address or because they used an old one that they're no longer checking, so retire that a well email account.
Speaker 1:Just stop seriously. And, by the way, you guys just know that the email address that you sign up for is the email address that literally all of the information about Pelvicon, including all of the things like as we lead up to the actual date in September, that's where all of the goods and the information is coming to. So I'm gonna say it again I know we're like spending a little bit of time on this, but like seriously put down a freaking email address that you know that you spell correctly, that you check regularly, that you have access to if you're planning on leaving your job in the next two months. Like don't use your freaking work email like let's think about it, folks, come on.
Speaker 2:This isn't a call center that we hire in India. Who answers these emails like this is me us, so you're good by us.
Speaker 1:I mean just see right most of the time.
Speaker 2:So yeah, printer would come in handy.
Speaker 1:It's okay All right.
Speaker 2:A couple other FAQs are their CEUs? Yes, conference is eligible for CEUs. It's gonna be about 14 hours we're gonna be submitting. Last year was 14.25. It should be right around the same this year. What if I am Nicole working busy, had doing stuff with family on Thanksgiving or on black Friday, should I not even bother registering, because it's a popular thing, it might sell out.
Speaker 1:Oh my gosh. So a couple things here. We already chatted that you might need to recruit a friend, family member, somebody that has that day off, that is ready to be by their computer. Pelvicon has sold out the last two years, but it sold out a little bit differently each year. The first year we had a very low amount of tickets because we were like, is this gonna be a thing? And? And we ended up selling out in four minutes. We changed venue, we added people, but even then that sold out pretty damn quickly as well. Last year we added up to 625 people. That's how many tickets we have again this year. So it sold out differently. The thing is is that if you want your optimal chance to come, you need to register as close to the black Friday waitlist time as possible. But don't assume that oh, there's a lot of people on the waitlist, oh, I'm probably not gonna be able to get in. Do not assume that. Just get as close to the time as possible and See if you had a ticket period. End of story.
Speaker 2:Yes, so a couple other questions. We get why Atlanta? And To us there's two really huge reasons. One, atlanta is one of the most convenient cities for everybody in the United States and we really take that to heart when we're thinking about it. I mean, obviously we're coming in from California and Atlanta has a massive airport. It's one of the two or three biggest in the entire country. It's a hub most people are able to get a direct flight there and it's pretty dang centrally located when you consider all of the different options and other places where there's big airports. The other thing is it is incredibly important to us to put on an amazing event and that requires a ton of preparation, and so we will likely continue having it in Atlanta, because Andrew and Jessica Rao are based in Atlanta and we probably go to the venue 20, 25, maybe 30 times Leading up to the conference to make sure that every detail is perfect. If we put it in some random Timbuktu, wisconsin, we can't do that.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I'm going to Wisconsin.
Speaker 1:There's a Timbuktu in the United States, somewhere, I think okay, well, I'm gonna anyways, and but honestly, anywhere outside of where we live would be tough, you know, that's just the reality of it on podcast. We like to keep it real. So those two things. And, by the way, like, if you actually look, I know that if you look at the Totality of the United States, right, and it's not exactly in the middle or the exact middle, but if you look at all of the flights that go in and out, that is pretty darn as close to quote-unquote Quote central as it can be right in the middle of the country is Kansas, and nothing against Kansas, but I don't like.
Speaker 2:Kansas has like a massive, wonderful Airport that everybody can get a direct flight to well it might and we don't know that.
Speaker 1:But also, we're not doing it in Kansas. No again, no offense to Kansas.
Speaker 2:You're really, I mean on Kansas.
Speaker 1:I, we love people from Kansas. We know a lot of people from Kansas, but also I'm not doing Pelvicon there, so don't get your hopes up, sorry, kansas.
Speaker 2:All right, why 625 attendees? Why is that the magic number? This is actually again kind of pulling back the curtain for you guys, but basically you have two options when you're running a conference. If you want to have a kind of an intimate experience where everybody is staying at the same hotel and Everybody's getting the same kind of thing and everybody's going to breakfast at the same place and we're just going to the same happy hour, then hotels basically kind of cap out at that. 650 People in the ballroom like we literally last year filled up the hotel I think we had 95% of the people in the hotel were from Pelvicon, like we literally Took over a hotel, and I feel really bad for those other 5% of the people who are walking around, like what the hell is happening?
Speaker 1:Real bad.
Speaker 2:Like the, you know Wand and dilators and talking about all the stuff and people's eyes. I'm sure we're a little bit wide.
Speaker 1:But is this?
Speaker 2:so it allows us to take over hotel and have that experience. If you go much above that, you start ending up with like a CSM type experience, where you're getting a huge Conference venue and all of a sudden you're just this small fish and you've got, you know, a bunch of hotels that people can stay at and your everybody's coming in and for us it feels like the experience just starts to lack so at that point too you might be like oh well, pelvicon's on level three of the conference center, and I don't know, joe blows other conference.
Speaker 2:Aerospace engineers are down on level one and Kermit. The Frog enthusiasts are on level two and Pelvicons on level three.
Speaker 1:Yeah, so right, we don't want that.
Speaker 2:Kermit the Frog sounds like a cool thing.
Speaker 1:I does not actually, so that's why 625 and that's like the maximum butts and seats that we can have in that venue. We're really happy to be coming back to the Crown Plaza. We are super stoked about that. That hotel was really great. It had a really wonderful amount of areas for us to like mingle in and had like a big bar area. It had a restaurant that could accommodate that many people. It was like really a great experience on the back end and also forward facing to you guys.
Speaker 2:We're really proud of that and we're going to do it A walking path for people who are runners or joggers outside. I mean, that whole thing is like it's a really great venue. So, yeah, we couldn't be more excited to be coming back. So now, nicole, if I've been before, why do I return to Pelvicon?
Speaker 1:Because it's the best and there's returning speakers and also new speakers and it's just going to be the best. And even the returning speakers, like we said before, are going to be speaking on different things. If you've been before, you can't. You have our word and our scouts honor that. We are always striving to make it better and better each year, both logistics wise and content wise, and experience wise and fun wise and all of it. So if you've been before, you are not going to be disappointed.
Speaker 2:And if I haven't been before, why now?
Speaker 1:Because you've got to join the Pelvicon movement, you've got to become a Pelviconner the amount of camaraderie and community and inspiration and nerding out that we do in the span of two and a half, three days, four days. However, you go to Pelvicon, it's just like nothing else and if you ask anybody that's gone, it's like an electric type of feeling. It's like really like no weather. So if you haven't been, I'm so excited for you to experience it.
Speaker 2:Right, and now you're get the benefit of the fact that this is your three. Like, we've worked out the kinks.
Speaker 1:Yeah, hopefully, hopefully.
Speaker 2:We'll see when the power goes out and somebody pulls the fire alarm or something. Why so many international speakers, nicole, this is a very worldly lineup.
Speaker 1:Yeah, because they're bomb ass. I mean like we're not fucking around with this, like we look, jessica and I look and be like who's doing the most cool stuff that can impact our field the most. I don't care where they are, I don't care where they live, I don't care where they're mostly teaching. We just want the best for you and we're just so grateful that these folks said yes. That's why there's so many international speakers.
Speaker 1:You know we've get bombarded quite a bit with can I please speak? Can I please speak? And I'm like I want to say to them do you have a resume like any of these people? You know, it's like it's so crazy. I don't even have a resume like these people. I am going to be 10th on the list, eight, ninth, 10th on the list of the accolades and achievements of these folks, and so it's just, it's humbling that they said yes and we're so excited. But that's why quote, unquote so many international speakers is that we wanted to make sure that we were picking the best of the best and people that are moving the needle in our field, because that's what just can I want for all of us is that those people we want to be able to inspire you to move the needle in your area, to challenge yourself, and so it doesn't really matter where you're from. They just happen to be international this time. But when you really look at all of their amazing experience and achievements, it's like no brainer that that's why they're here.
Speaker 2:Because we can't, because we're not just saying like, oh, who's local to Atlanta and who's going to come in and who?
Speaker 1:can we fucking member of some freaking organization? Right, totally.
Speaker 2:And when else are you going to get a chance again? Like I love what you said, nicole, about seeing these people all in the stage at the same time. But some of these folks aren't in the US very often at all, you know. Think about Joe Melio's. I think Perth is literally as far away from the United States as you can like physically get. I don't know if there's another city that's further away. We're going to do some geography research here.
Speaker 1:No, I hate geography.
Speaker 2:But it's on the other side of Australia, which is like a whole country that's as big as the United States. It's crazy.
Speaker 1:It's not even that they're international. We didn't like choose international speakers. We just like looked at who's the best of the best in our field and we're like, oh, these people are doing fucking cool things. And so we just asked them and we're like, oh, this is amazing. Oh my God.
Speaker 2:And you know we can't go wrong, because you and Jessica are such pelvic health nerds and so involved in everything that really all we need you guys to do is put together a wish list of who do you guys want to see, like who's on your bucket list of people to make sure you see in person. This is it.
Speaker 1:I mean, if I screw up on stage, it's because I'm going to be having not paid attention to what I'm supposed to be saying and because I'm going to be listening to these folks. So, again, grateful for all of them. We're so excited for you to be come a Pelvic Connor and or to continue to be a.
