Steve Lastoe, Founder of NYCRUNS, Joins Host, Coach Alli to Chat About The Behind-The-Scenes Work That Makes Races Possible, How NYCRUNS Creates Goals for Runners in Local Communities, And How The Organization Kept Runners Running Happy Throughout the Global Pandemic Last Year. EPISODE 61.
Steve Lastoe is the Founder, President, & Race Director of NYCRUNS, the running organization that hosts local races throughout New York City and New Jersey. Since 2009, the company now hosts 30+ annual events, creating over 50,000 individuals to run their race! They've produced thousands of races to date, including races following COVID- 19 safety protocols set by the CDC throughout the entire pandemic, keeping local communities alive and runners running in-person throughout the pandemic!
Steve discusses his favorite running distance in this episode on the show and what got him into running. He eludes to what makes NYCRUNS an organization so special, how they host races, what they do when a race doesn't go as planned, and how the tagline "win your race" came about!
If you're ever in the NYC area, be sure to check out the NYCRUNS flagship races. These include the Brooklyn Marathon & Half Marathon, the Newport-Liberty Half Marathon (one of the largest half marathons in New Jersey), and the storied Empire State Building Run-Up!
It was a pleasure speaking with this individual and fellow runner about running and many other things that aren't directed solely by just running, but rather the community and the people the make up the running community! I can't wait to partake in more races hosted by NYCRUNS and personally want to thank Steve and the rest of the employees at NYCRUNS for making all of the races during the pandemic possible. You are all AWESOME and very much appreciated by your running friends!
