BC Woodlots
BC's woodlot licences are area based, long term forest tenures, essentially a social contract to manage a plot of public forest often in combination with a private woodlot. There are about 850 located around communities in the urban interface, on well travelled corridors and in sensitive ecosystems. Woodlot Licences are held by a diverse group - individuals, multi-generational families, foresters, loggers, community-based organizations and First Nations - who have strong ties to the local community. The woodlot program has a legacy of successfully operating in these challenging areas, respecting local values and taking a hands-on approach. Our podcasts explore some of the challenges and opportunities woodlotters face as stewards of local forests.
